I'm really not interested in joining this debate, but I'd like to do a drive-by if I may. There is a wealth of information in those three words coming from someone who promised not to tell why.
So, there's at least one person who understands how to properly parse words to extract meaningful information from the surrounding context...

I may well be inaccurate on some things and things may change as time goes on, but at least I back up my posts with published info or some sort of reasoning. If you can't do the same, don't act all superior because you have inside information. Besides, we just don't know what that is worth.
I have been wrong from time to time, and I don't mind admitting it on those fortunately rare occasions. You speak of "we" in your last sentence as if you speak for everyone, which is on the face of it rather pretentious itself don't you think? You may speak authoritatively of one person only: yourself.Oddly enough, in all the years I've been here at AVSIM, the vast majority of my time is spent in technical development forums exchanging tips, tricks, and ideas with like minded folks. Now I've begun to realize why that's been so... :(

Give me a break. We have no idea what you mean with your little quips and what context you are talking about. For all we know you are just impressed by what you see in the possible achievements list or the hidden list of files in the beta download - assuming there is one. I am 100% sure that we are not wrong about everything...andExtraordinary claims require extraordinary proof, yet you have the convenience of not having to provide one.

There you go with that "we" again, or is it being used in the sense of the "Royal We?" There are those who read these forums who have the skills to discern and unpack meaning from what is actually written, both from the context of the question asked as well as what is not explicitly stated.

So now you are going to attack me personally. Nice.Well, if I find another poster who has expressed the same views that I have, then it would be "we", would it not? I certainly do not speak for the whole community as I clearly do not speak for you. Why would you even assume such a thing?I do not "pretend" to know anything beyond what I have read from good sources (see my other post for the list) or have seen in videos. I don't know if you just pretend to be smug but I know I ruffle your feathers. You may think that I have some sort of agenda. I do not. However, I have seen a number of posts, some to me, that required someone to point out that not everyone agrees with your point of view.Apparently, some of you are just not used to this and the hackles go up. I have been a member of this forum since 2006 and have been reading it well before then. Just because I have not posted here, does not mean I don't know who is who.

I know there's gotta me more than just me. There's just gotta be.Another thing I know:I am excited about MS Flight. Finally I can play for more than 8 minutes without a fatal error (unlike FSX). Finally, I'll be able to load up a float plane mission where the plane is actually in the water as it should be. Finally, the missions will trigger the next 'phase' when they should (oh, I needed to be 2 more inches closer). Finally, I can have hyper-realistic scenery and smooth framerates. Finally, when I download a plane, it will work the first time and install correctly. Finally, I won't download a plane, mission, or add-on scenery that won't simply be awful and litter my directories with junk. Finally, I can find a certain plane, in one place, by a vetted author with vetted code. Finally, everything I'm used to doing with FSX won't be such an incredible hassle. Finally MS has overhauled their flight simulator program for this century! My wallet is standing by and with microtransactions, I won't even realize I'm running an eight-hundred dollar flight simulator :). And, when I want to do some fun flying in the much dreaded "arcade mode" (whatever that is?), I can do that too.I sit here and look at my FSX Box and it's bloated multi-DVD set from Microsoft Game Studios and thank it for many years of fun and frustration. It's served me well, but it's high-time it gets a rewrite. It's ported code from Windows 95 is really a drag. It's handling of memory, CPUs, and graphics must be ancient with all the errors and weirdness I get. Flight, I know you won't be exactly like FSX in content nor will you have all my beloved 3rd party add-ons when you are born, but I do know you'll grow quickly into a better FSX than I could imagine. I'm sorry some people think you are just an ugly little step-child not worthy of love, but I'll love you. Be patient, they will love you too.

Same place I am right now.If you look at my profile, you would see that I've been a member here since 2006. That was when I decided that I wanted to get back into flightsims (My older bother was a HUGE fan of flightsims and was the one who got me into them, as he raise me after our parents died, when I was still little. When I suddenly lost him in 2002, I gave away most of his collection of flightsim, as I couldn't bring myself to use them). But I was a full time college student back in 2006, until my graduation in 2009, so I didn't have much time to spend here, or to play games. After I graduated, I began to spend more time with FSX and (X-Plane 9), and I upgraded my graphics card in Feb 2010, and purchased a number of third party addons for FSX. Most of the time that I spent on AVSIM back then, was in the FXS tech support threads, as I tried to get it to run with decent framerates on my PC ... and I was never successful, so I pretty much gave up on FSX. During this time (since my graduation) I was spending most of my free time making mods for Bethesda's Fallout games and running my website, and an international gaming forum that I started.Late last fall I had finally paid off my student loans and had saved up enough to purchase a new gaming computer, and I wanted to make sure that I was configuring it in a way that would run FSX well. So I started spending time on these forums again. This where I first learned about Flight, and where I leaned that about the Beta Testing sign up.I still don't have my new PC (a FedEx gorilla trashed it before it reached me). So I still cannot run FSX with acceptable frame rates (or without it crashing, when it runs out of memory after 30 minutes or so of flying).Ok, enough about me. You have my word that I'm not a MS spy.
Some story... People should tell more often how they got 'here': it makes you aware that there are actually human beings on the other side of the internet, 'talking' to you through this forum, and not some avatar without feelings...But er... did your new PC really get trashed before you got it...??? Hopefully FedEx's insurance will make sure you get a new one?

I'm don't like to post about myself, but I didn't want others here to think I was a MS plant or something (which some might have if I dodged the question). I came back to AVSIM honestly, not even knowing anything at all about Flight.Yes, my new PC was pretty messed up. Both drives had come free and the SSD has to be replaced, as it was totaled. I sent it back to the company, as the owner wanted to make sure that nothing else was damaged. I hope to have it back in a few weeks.I was pretty bummed (ok, really bummed, to the point of tears). I had spent a month researching all the components this past fall, as I don't know much at all about PC hardware, and money has been pretty tight for me lately, due to some unexpected medical expenses. And then I had to wait for about a month for it to arrive. I had dug out my FSX DVDs and all my addons and had them all ready to install (they are still ready).

Completely off topic, but sorry to hear that! Know the feeling as one of my boxes were lost in the mail when I ordered my new PC, and even worse, no FS 11 this spirng :(

Arwen, sorry to hear about your misfortune with your new PC. That really sucks. I recently watched a youtube video of how some FebEx people treat the parcels and I wonder how they keep their jobs.I really hope that you get to enjoy your new purchase soon and your research and waiting pays off with great graphics and framerates.Martin

Arwen, Have you thought about purchasing your stuff from newegg and putting it together yourself? It takes literally an hour (less) to build a PC and you'll save $$$ or get better components for the same $. Something to think about before your manufacturer sends out the replacement...

Cheers,

Jonathan

It costs me just 10% more to have my PC built, overclocked, and tested by someone who actually knows what they are doing. And it comes with a 3 year warrantee and life time tech support.I can go to the market in pick out ingredients and whip up a pretty good meal. And I can write scripting and tweak game play setting to create huge overhaul mods for games. But I'm a bit lost when it comes to assembling a PC from parts (I'm not exactly mechanically inclined).BTW: I do appreciate the sympathy and the advice, but we should really get back on topic now.

It was well-written. Flat out wrong on pretty much every point, but I do have to concede thst he has a good command of language. :(
Of course you would disagree since you were the subject of his post, but its seems to be pretty much spots on from what i've observed. I just dont see why you spend so much time in this forum if X-Plane is really what you like.

It seems pretty much a load of rubbish from from what I've observed. I have been here and on XP forums for years and have seen almost nothing like what was described in that post.Maybe they spend time here cos they're interested in flight sims. There are lots of MSFS guys come over to XP forums too. You know why? Because, hey guess what, they're interested in flight simming too. Life is full of surprises.
