C5 Galaxy Sounds WOW!

Featured Replies

A C5 galaxy has been doing touch and go's for an hour at KMGE Dobbins ARB. The sound of that plane is incredible. The GE TF39-1C engines are the best in the world.... Very powerful, and have an extremely loud distinct sound. Video is

.Anyone else enthralled by this beautiful sounding aircraft??

Oh yes, you bet I am!

This one will blow out your headphones if you're wearing them.

Thanks for that, Danny. Fantastic video. I've been toying with the idea of getting the Area-51 product. Amazingly short take-off for such a big bird.

It is awesome. We have seen them down here in Christchurch as a HUB for flights to McMurdo Station.Cheers

That sound would get irritating quickly! I also get irritated when I hear the Blackhawks flying 500ft overhead my house towards the practice area... Over... and over. They interfere with my simming and homework!

You are the worst.... :LMAO:The C5 sounds NEVER get old.... best sound in the world IMO. I could have those flying over all day and I wouldn't care in the least.... Trust me, once you hear it in real life, I think you will fall in love with the C5 (FRED).
You are the worst.... :(
It just sounds like he's got 'Airplanitus'....or in other words he is spending too much time around Airplanes. But that is a very good thing and I'd rather be spending too much time around airplanes as well.....Cheers All. :(

My father was part of the group that built those aircraft.
Great opening....and I am sure he has a few more stories then that............Feel free to share your Thanksgiving Stories about your father and the C5 to the rest of the peanut gallery.Cheers Mate

Speaking of blowing out headphones, a couple of years ago I had an upclose encounter with a C-5 while running on the "Silver Strand" Coronado, CA. It was a cool dark, overcast morning and one of these big monsters was low and close to KNZY NAS North Island. Still in the clouds and not in full view I hear this spool-up directly over my head. It definitely got my attention.

Oh yeah.... Those things put out 135 Db at close range....

My fav's is the C-17.....VERY distinctive high pitch when it spools up....LOVE that bird. Used to get to play with them in the pattern in KNBC when they'd come down to play from KCHS....was lucky enough during my active-duty days to have KCHS with their long-runway closed. :) So the airlift command there would come to KNBC to use ours for PAR's, SAR's, etc for practice....between those and our native squadrons they got me signed off on PAR. :)

@John BinnerOk, now that you have made us all green with envy :( as you were signed off these agile if not the most graceful of warbirds, in your opinion, as I'm contemplating a buy, which is the better buy, the Area-51 or the Virtavia version. I've read the merits and demerits of both but not seen an in-depth review to sway me to one or the other.

Now there be a question...Head over to SOH and run a search. There's more than one long thread covering this.
