Nothing wrong in having both is there?

Flight has taken a lot of flak since it's announcement.I understand why.my intention is to download it and see what it's all about over the coming year.there has been disappointment with every new version since FS1.expectations are always very high.now i could be very wrong .but i intend to give Flight a chance.these MS guys are not stupid people.I want to see what happens and how it evolves over a year or so.At the same time continuing to use FSX and still purchase addons for it.from companies like PMDG,Aerosoft,GEX,REX,FSDT and all the other fantastic developers out there.I'm expecting some flak but there are people who still have both FS9 and FSX on there rigs.steve-0

Why be concerned about flak?Everyone has a right to run any program on their computer as they see fit.Nothing wrong with that at all. I love FSX, since the initial download of Flight is free will probably download just to check it out myself.I have no aspirations of Flight taking over for FSX anytime soon, if ever - If I enjoy it when I try it, I will keep it on and try more content when it is released - if not, I will uninstall it... but my weekly Saturday morning flights in FSX wil continue for quite some time, I am sure.

If you enjoy the idea of Flight you should play it. I dont enjoy the idea of it being an arcade game, and require more depth in my flying experience, so I will keep playing FSX. Also, I think the difference between FS9 and FSX is in a completely different ballpark than the comparison between FSX and Flight.

Although it is being released as an arcade type game(you have to unlock free flight ) I still think that in the future it will be added to just like all the FS series from outside developers .from what i've read Seattle area is the next area to be released .maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part,I'm hoping bigger jets will come to enable city hops.realtime weather,PMDG,aerosoft .it's such a big franchise can it survive being a fly through the hoops type of game.sooner or later they will have to give it more depth/realism to keep it alive.well i hope so anyway. steve-0

+1I am looking forward to MS Flight, which I think will be great for my GA/VFR needs (might well replace FSX when it comes to that) and I am looking forward to keep on using FSX for flying the 737NGX. I have two browsers on my PC, two video players, two music players, three racing games, so I won't mind having two flying games/sims on my PC. :(

No you don't.

Where did you read this? This is the first that I have read about anything else being released.
PMDG
........has already said no thanks. Yes, they can change their plans in the future.

If it does not sell well then the MS Flight devs and managers will certainly have a much shorter stay than Aces.Bob

Nothing wrong with running multiple sim platforms, have the best of both worlds! I used to do that for a time when I was between FS9 and FSX, but I eventually moved solely to FSX. At the moment I find myself using X-Plane 9, 10 and FSX almost interchangeably. I'm not too interested in Flight right now. I'm not getting involved in wars, but it's not for me. If I wanted to chase golden coins around an island I'd have bought a DS.

Why do so many folks assume that is all that Flight consists of? If you don't like to chase golden coins around an island, then just......don't do it! There's a whole lot more to Flight than that!I've never chased the hoops in FSX either!

Flight will never develop into an FSX style simulator. Those who are still hoping it might are deluding themselves. It is and will remain quite a pretty arcade game designed for folks who find joysticks intimidating (apparently).Bruce

I take your point, but I've 'played' Flight and was, if I'm completely honest, bored in minutes. Free flight being trapped in the small area around Hawaii isn't much more engaging. I get very little enjoyment out of flying around places I've never been to and am never likely to go. Any VFR flying I do in sims is usually in my local area from my home airport, which Flight simply does not offer, and frankly I don't see it being possible in Flight any time soon. I also greatly enjoy the challenge of mastering complex aircraft and flying them long distances, recreating real world flights. This is also not possible in Flight and may well be a long time coming, and with only Microsoft's own team doing all the work, I can't imagine anything like, for example, the PMDG NGX, which even with a dedicated team of aircraft experts and real pilots took more than two years to make.

Of course it won't "develop into an FSX style simulator." It was never envisioned as such. It will eventually evolve into something unique instead, which is not to imply that it'll be something that no appeal at all.As for the last statement, you couldn't possibly be more wrong sir. What do I need beyond my CH Pro Yoke, CH Pro Pedals, and CH Pro Flightcontrolls?Okay, certainly it will most likely never support a full hardware cockpit (a la Project Magenta, et alia), but for the basic home user it has more than enough support already available.

Did you try shooting any ILS approaches in heavy weather conditions, or navigating using only navaids? Unlike FS9 or FSX, there are no "cheats" available, the pilot actually has to fly the plane, and be pretty darn good at it as well! :Thinking:It may eventually evolve over time to support the heavy-iron folks, who knows? While any flight over two hours for me becomes excessively boring, I know and respect that such does have appeal to many. More power to 'em I say! FS9 and FSX aren't going to suddenly vanish, so I'll continue to support both platforms with my development work (I still need to eat, after all!), and enjoy both for any sudden bizjet or heavy-iron itch I need to scratch... :(

Yep, exactly this is what I believe. I hope that Flights target audience finds it good after all, I myself enjoy whole world flying so I will stay with FSX and X plane 10 which should arrive to me in 6 days.

I feel completely opposite - I enjoy flying low and slow over places I've never been. With the scenery offered in Flight (what I can tell from the vids/screenshots and descriptions) it sounds like this is right up my alley! I had enough of complex systems/long flights/high altitude in MAC/AMC - my computerized aviation is all about low and slow...Disclaimer - still love the short IFR hop from KLCK to KFFO on FS9 - but that's about the extent of my interest in non-VFR.
