March 1, 201214 yr I'm proud to wear an "FS9" tattoo on my arm Wow, respect, mate! That must be the most genuine dedication to our beloved sim I have ever heard about.
March 2, 201214 yr Oh, yes! Downloading, redownloading, installing, reinstalling, activating, configuring, tweaking, updating, troubleshooting, planning, deciding, buying, reading, learning, discussing... .Did I forget something? Oh, sure, f-l-y-i-n-g sometimes! :wink:Not anymore. They were too good to stay freeware. They are going payware. The next Hungarian project they are already working on will be released as payware.http://www.lhsimulat.../?p=606〈=en It's all my fault - I kept saying their stuff was payware quality and I guess they finally believed me! LOL They thoroughly deserve to be paid for their work - I will continue to support them....I am eyeing REX, i'll most likely get it later this month. I am also looking for some island hopping capable machinery too. probably a Twin Otter, Islander, Caravan or........heck whatever I can find.I am getting back into FSEconomy again, and really enjoy that. Too bad it's not real money....If you're looking for STOL for FS9 Jason, I don't think you will find much available sadly. The only Twotter and Islander out there is FSX. But there are some options, freeware and payware, for light and medium twins. Of course, if you want ultra STOL, then the FSD Pilatus Porter is outstanding, but it's a long, slow haul in between points. ^_^When you're ready to start looking, you'll find plenty of good suggestions on here.CheersIanps. I should have read all the other posts before I replied - I missed Dave's sugestion above.. Though I don't have the Kodiak, I have heard positive things about it, though I have to say that the old bush pilot in me can't quite equate the idea of STOL and a glass cockpit. LOL If you want a single that is very old school and fun, the Carenado C185 is excellent though there's a couple of things to tweak if you do buy it Edited March 2, 201214 yr by kiwiflyer45
March 2, 201214 yr Author Yeah, just doing some searching today turned up a few possibilitiesTwin Otter - PAD, Aerosim, and I think there was Lago Twotter but no longer available.Quest Kodiak - It's now on my list, thanks vectorCarenado 185 - Definitely going to grab that soon, thanks kiwiflyer45Britten-Norman islander - Got that this afternoon, the freeware FS9 oneBeech 99 - PADCessna 414 - PADFSD Pilatus Porter - I actually have that one, completely forgot about it.For scenery I just found FS-Freeflow J R (Jason R MYNN) General Aviation Nut FSEconomy Pilot
March 2, 201214 yr My GA aircraft of choice is the Aeroworx Kingair B200. It is outstanding. You're right about the Lago Twotter no longer being available - sadly. Another fun choice, though there are very limited repaints for it, is Milton Shupe's Freeware Dash-7. His Beech 18 is also great for short hops. A freeware scenery that may have come out during your hiatus that you should look at is Glacier Bay. Not exactly your Caribbean island paradise but has all the elements that seem to appeal to you - lots of short hops, challenging air fields and spectacular scenery. STOL paradise!CheersIan
March 2, 201214 yr Author I found in my archives the Aeroworx King Air B200, I had forgotten I bought that. Thanks for reminding me. My name may say MYNN, but live in Canada now, so I am up for any STOL challenge. And a bit of bad news today though. After having recently installed a clean Windows install, updated drivers, Installed FS9, some of my payware and freeware scenery gathered recently, some of my payware planes, and then installing all of them, then enjoying the sim for about 2 weeks......last night my hard drive died. First one in a loooong time.I am an SMB IT Consultant, so I keep on top of my drives, and have a disaster recovery plan, but this failure caught me offguard, bigtime. Luckily I made a drive image of the flat Windows install, but rebuilding FS9 will take awhile. A setback, but hey, it happens to all of us at somepoint in our virtual flight career, much like an engine failure. You quickly take stock, figure out a solution and get back to where you were safely. J R (Jason R MYNN) General Aviation Nut FSEconomy Pilot

But it sounds like you've got it covered so press the feather button, crank in a little rudder trip to give your leg a rest (assymetric thrust) and proceed on course! All those diaper changes you've done over the past couple of years should have you used to dealing with sudden emergencies LOL :(
March 2, 201214 yr Great thread...My aircraft of chioce - DA Piper Cheyenne... I just can't get enough of that bird since I swapped out the Trimble for a trusty Garmin...Regards,Scott
March 2, 201214 yr Author I saw the DA Cheyenne, but was concerned with the perf on my machine, you know what it's now on my list too, my list gets longer once again. So much to catch up with.I was over at Carenado's site today, while restoring my drive image (Acronis is awesome), and added pretty much all of their FS9 aircraft to my 'to get list'. I wonder if they ever thought of a coupon discount (my wife is rubbing off on me now) for their FS9 aircraft. One can dream!More to come.... March 2, 201214 yr Great post! Nice to read that you remember your FS9 just in those days of MS Flight release... Yes, I love this hobby even more, knowing I will continue tinkering with FS9 till death do us part.So I will. Half an hour ago, I bought Aerosoft's Vilnius X - it's compatible with FS9.Edit: And I ask myself, when will cities like these be available for "Flight". March 2, 201214 yr Thank God Aces gave us FS9/FSX to simulate flight. I can configure my sim to what suits me and not have the Microsoft "Suits" tell me what they think I like.To add. And to have a platform that can be used to create a hobby environment and not just a "game" situation!! ArDee
March 2, 201214 yr Hello.Great post, loving this hobby. Myself included.I first started with the Looking Glass studioes flight 2 and 3.Had a great time with the "Pier Glass Aviation" as an active pilot with weekly reports to the internet pilot club.Later the world changed all things by the release of fs9 and Fsx.Still have great flights with both fs9 and fsx. on and off the internet online flying. And not to forget, all outstanding addons made for both fs9 and fsx..It is a pleasure to be a flightsimmer.Thanks.Lars Peter..
March 3, 201214 yr I am getting back into it after a few years off. My computer can run FS2004 great so I am sticking to that. I ordered PMDG MD-11 and it will be in the morning's mail! Greg Moore KFMH https://forum.pmdg.com/filedata/fetch?id=127275&d=1622041469&type=thumb
March 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member Yes, I'm proud to wear an "FS9" tattoo on my arm.Seriously RJ, you have an FS9 tattoo? No way...That does it, I'm gettin' one :smile:Jim
March 3, 201214 yr Hey JimIf I had a FS9 tat in real life, I'm sure the wife would unplug my joystick for sure. No, only my avatar has a FS9 tattoo. I'm sure one day I'll change it to FSX.I see you made the switch to FSX? I can't just yet, have to much invested in FS9 and I'm really enjoying just flying with zero issues. That said, I'm still tweaking FS9 and I'm sure at one point I'll break it.Gotta love this hobbyRJ

Other than FS9, that's my favorite thing! LOL (Having a dirty mind is a great burden but somebody has to bear it....)Your point about tweaking FS9 until we break it is SO true... I can't count how many times I've gone "Oh no!" when I have realized that my latest "tweak" or addon is now causing the dreaded black screen. Thank God for the Windows "restore" function! (And a backup on an external drive!)Cheers mateIan
