  1. Hi All! edit: This is now a freeware project, test it out here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/lln7i95ghptng0x/AAAFiCOMMyhQVydgWG0rJkv3a?dl=0 To decrypt, enter "TheHunHunterTexas" (mods, I do not use this passphrase anywhere, but I do not feel lime uploading 250MB again just to remove the password, so if you can, let it be here visible to everyone) also, if you would like to contribute to expand this to worldwide scale, just ring the bell! I have been working on a big big scenery lately, covering Western Europe with OSM vector data for coastlines, roads, lakes and even some VTP land class (for urbanized areas)... The scenery covers all western Europe (the EURW area of FS9) from Portugal to just east of Italy. Resolution is at about 1point/10m, for roads, coastlines, rivers, railroads, power lines and VTP urban area polygons! Here Some screenshots so you know what you are testing! Reykjavik, Iceland Innsbruk, Austria Genova, Italy Note that I have a variety of freeware texture add-ons and a (free) global SRTM mesh... If interested, respond to the topic and you will obtain the dropbox link and the decryption password via PM.

We have brought online a new donation system. The issue for us that caused this change is that the old system did not recognize the member's support of AVSIM (other than to get a big thank you message upon completion of the donation payment). This new system gives the donor a little bit of public recognition for their contribution and support. Here are the details: All of the forum donation buttons now take the user to a Marketplace page with the donation alternatives displayed. There are 7 selections at the moment: $5.00 – Donor - 3 months $10.00 – Donor – 6 months $25.00 – Donor - 9 months $50.00 – Bronze – 1 year $125.00 – Silver – 1 ½ year $250.00 – Gold – 2 years $500.00 – Lifetime – No time limit The durations have to do with an indicator that will appear in the user’s side panel profile with each message they post. This is accomplished by moving them to a new group. When the duration expires, if they have not renewed, they will be moved back to the “member” group. The Lifetime contributor remains a lifetime contributor forever. Every member who donates will be sent an email 7 days before their donation expires in order to renew it, or not. Renewals are not automatic. That means that the system WILL NOT automatically charge you for another donation. Here are the images that appear: If you want to see an example of this, look for FPPILOT’s post in this topic: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/433916-approachscenery-misalignment/ You are not obligated or required to contribute of course. Access to all of AVSIM remains free. If you decide to contribute, the AVSIM Staff and your fellow community members will be shown your support of this community. And if you do contribute, thank you in advance for doing so. EDIT: We are working on refining the images and some other details.
  3. This is part 1 (Questions 1 through 10) of the 2013 Demographic Survey as of today. This survey runs through the end of the year, and if you have not yet taken it, we encourage you to do so. As of today, the following charts represent the input from 1217 participants. If you have not yet taken the survey, you can do so here.
  4. Gentlemen, Recently, to be specific today, my niece approached me with a request to distribute a survey among flight simulator community members. I know I am new, but have been a AVSIM library user for years. I sincerely hope you don't mind! My niece is a student "free time management" at the "InHolland Academy" (School for higher education in the Netherlands) and is working on a project in which online communities play a major role. It's a small survey and requests little of your time. Not to mention that it is of course anonymously. My niece would be very grateful if you'd participate in this survey. The link is stated below: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZDG8B2W Thanks in advance. (The survey has been distributed throughout other networks as well, I hope you don't mind)
  5. This is the second part of the Demographic Data to date.
  6. With our recent system upgrades and fine tuning of our back end systems, we have made the decision to bring back our Online Chat System. The Chat system allows you to "chat" with your fellow AVSIM Community members in real time. This is a text based system and is not a "voice over IP" system such as TeamSpeak. Never the less, it gives you instant access to your fellow members at anytime of day or night, 24 / 7. You can access the Chat system by clicking on the COMMUNITY tab or by clicking here.
  7. HI All,I've been away from Flight Simulation for about three years. My daughter (then son) was born and they became my priority. I can now find time to get back in to my love for flight. I still have an older PC but it runs FS9 beautifully.Enough of that though, I just wanted to post a quick message to mention the recent releases for FS9 which make my enjoyment so much more incredible. The recently released Scenery by Ed Geener Cox is insanely beautiful, I can't help but do circuits around the feild to take it in. I found his other sceneries and am now enjoying those now too! LICJ 2012 for FS9, just incredible, when you look at the development at FSDeveloper.com, you really appreciate the time and effort put into these projects, and for free! Then there is the legendary Milton Shaupe and his team that have just released the Grumman S2A in a multitude of versions. The plane is simply amazing!!That and all of you that share your experiences and expertise, make it a real joy. And although Avsim is my home, the other large communities (for example a few, FSEconomy, SOH, FlightSim, Simviation, SurClaro, FSDeveloper) that also contribute a huge amount of experience, skill, fun and enjoyment make this hobby, virtual career, virtual Economy and more such a great you could say, family.I am sure there is plenty of life left in FS9, FSX. They are both incredible simulations, I look forward to enjoying more, and spending an incredible amount of time (to my wife's dismay) with all of you sharing and experiencing it all.
  8. Member Map

There are over 90,000 members of the AVSIM Community Forums and less than 500 have plotted their location on the MEMBER MAP found here: http://forum.avsim.net/membermap/The Map does not reveal any personal information. Just User ID here and your location. Please participate. It would be great to have thousands of AVSIM members occupying it.
  9. Fan Forum

I haven't had much time to post anything here since we brought this forum online and I thought I would stop by, kick the feet up for awhile and partake in this new community at AVSIM. Hope you don't mind...Despite the circumstances under which this forum came to be, I have to say that I am impressed with everyone that has participated here so far. The maturity and willingness to discuss things as adults flies in the face of the apparent reasons you are here in the first place. AVSIM bans folk, but the reason for that banning has to be pretty egregious or results from violation of ToS' multiple times. And that brings me to a little fact that I am sure you will find, well, ironic... One of the protagonists in this Shakespearean tragedy, was actually banned from AVSIM for violation of our ToS' and repeated warnings. In light of what has transpired with your fine selves, I find it laughable now.Earlier, I deleted a message and posted a note about Personal Attacks. The content of the message deleted might have been marginally seen as a personal attack, but given the circumstances, I do not want the boys from down under to have any reason to point fingers here. You do not want that either, I am sure. My sensitivity to this results from a number of email that were sent back and forth between yours truly and one of the team there. I won't go into a lot of detail, but suffice to say that the typical bluster was issued and we were accused of committing a hostile act.So, if you see some sensitivities in Stephen's and my posts and reaction to your posts, please view them in that context.Back to the good stuff and what this forum is really for... It is always the staff of AVSIM's hope that we can serve our community in both good times and bad. I do not tolerate fools gladly (as anyone who knows me will attest to) and when I see folks being deprived, for lack of a better word, I tend to react. In this case, I think setting up this forum was an excellent suggestion by Stephen and I am very happy that we did so. And once again, this reaffirms the old adage.. If you suggest, be prepared to "own" the responsibility. Thanks for volunteering Stephen!!!Keep up the good works folks and I hope we can see this grow into an ORBX fan forum rather than the threat that they now see it as.
  10. Planned in 2011, brought to life in 2012, Wright Airlines stands for the highest level of the virtual flying experience. Founded on a simple aviation-focused vision, Wright Airlines came into existence out of much needed change in virtual flying. Instead of simply running routes back and forth with the same airplanes, Wright Airlines plans on offering much more with new challenges every week.Wright Airlines is working to create a positive experience with every flight and website visit, for both the virtual passengers and the flight crew. Wright Airlines strives to surround itself with pilots who share a serious passion about flight. Anyone who is willing to take the time to learn simple flight techniques will always be rightfully accepted and welcomed.Though our primary focus is to maintain and expand our virtual airline, we also are a home to foster growth for those willing to contribute to the community. If you would like to join our brand new community, please visit our website.Thanks!W.A.L. Staff Visit our Site! :( http://www.wrightairlines.org/
