Solutions for the use of DX10 preview

Featured Replies

For long I tried to use DX10 preview in FSX. But there were several issues that kept me from really doing it. The more experienced simmers here will know what I'm talking about.Since a few days I found the solutions, that make the experience with DX10 preview more than acceptable for me. I'd like to share this, for those who are interested.I started wiht Addon Converter X and it really works well!! Be sure to read and apply the instructions though! This not to expensive tool converts the dx9 textures of scenery (like airports, yes also third parties like Aerosoft and UK2000) to DX10 textures, so you don't have gray blocks with dusk, dawn and night.another negative effect of DX10 preview (rain/snow-tunnel-effect) I also solved with this link: http://forums1.avsim...d/page__st__25#The runway flickering I don't notice (yet). but there are solutions for that here: http://forum.avsim.n...flickering-fix/The only thing I couldn't solve was the loss of texture of the airport vehicles and AES jetways. However I kind of worked around this by disabeling the apron traffic (dx9 textures) on my addon airports (Aerosoft and UK2000) and ditching AES Help for GSX by Virtuali (fully compatible with DX10 preview and much nicer than AES). The FSX jetways can be moved by ctrl-J and are DX10 compatible.I gain a lot of extra FPS and can use the bloom effect now with the sliders way up!All these, together with UTX Europe and GEX Europe I've got stunning views and very smooth fps!!!

Hi there.Which options did you select in the Addon Coverter X configuration?Because on my Aerosoft Brussels Airport the buildings remain gray at night.I only selected the box for scenery Mega Airport Brussels in the configurator toolGrtFestijn

Some sceneries (eg. EHAMm EGSS, EDDK and EDDF) from Aerosoft don't let themselves be converted. I fly these airports only at daytime. If anyone knows a solution for these airports, please let us know

Unfortunately, there are more problems with the DX10 preview than the ones mentioned above:a ) AA settings cannot be changed outside the sim (and the defaults being used aren't very good)b ) AI aircraft lights disappear depending on view angle (this was a big one for me as I couldn't see AI aircraft at night when looking straight out of the cockpit)c ) other things disappearing depending on view angle (like the progressive taxi arrows)I used DX10 for a long time because I loved the sun reflections on the water and the better frame rates, but recently switched back to DX9 because the above points were bothering me too much.

Tom

This problem prevents me the most to use DX10.For Bloom i use the freeware ENB Bloomeffect instead.Very nice and no framerate hit.The solutions Ed van de Vijver mentions look good but it would be great if somebody (thirdparty) could make an addon with a complete solution for all issues, so we could make full use of DX10.Dreaming is allowed i suppose .... :(

With kind regards,

DX10 is really crippled in FSX, hence the "preview" title...Way too many issues with it for me to even think of running in DX10. I know I have seen some folks state they get better framerates - I never saw that, or maybe I just did not run it long enough to see it. Some of the above mentioned issues really bugged me, that and no progressive taxi, and not being able to force vsync on with is a must for me with my Track IR...It is really too bad the Aces team was dismantled and FSX was abandoned before that got to be completed, it would have been interesting to have seen the final DX10 product, I bet it would have really been good.

+1 for the original post. I flicked between DX9 and DX10 depending on whether frame rates or DX10 bugs were annoying me most! I finally settled back on DX10 as it makes a huge difference in terms of frame rates (10fps in some cases) on my system. I use Add On Converter X to convert aircraft/sceneries - it's not perfect but it converts most things. I think if you use DX10 you have to do it with the restrictions in mind.

Yes as Don B said, the killer that stops me using DX10 is the complete lack of VSYNC ability (even when forced on the card).A real shame as my FPS tend to be 70-120 in DX10 mode, as opposed to 30-50 in DX9, but as a TrackIR user, I cannot live with the terrible image tearing that takes place due to no VSYNC in DX10. :(

I use DX9 ENB settings now and never looked back!

Interesting to hear some get large frame rate improvements. Never messed with the DX10 so may have to try it to see if it can give my system longer legs.

I did mess with DX10 for a while. Bloom was great, clouds looked great, sky looked better andI believe the ground textures looked sharper too. The whole thing was smoother and I got better framerates too.I do recall an issue with anti aliasing and thre were a number of other issues I can no longer remember that made it not viable tocontinue with though.IAN
