Captain sim 737-200 Base pack has been released

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Well, I finally broke down and picked up the 200 base package since they are at version .09 now . One issue I have which I'll probably post over at Captainsim's forum.... with the ACE configurator when I check flightdeck only, it does not work. I am running it as Admin. The FPS hit is too much for my rig with the cabin. Any suggestions? I've done this at least 10 times and it will not take. Anyone else experience this. ? Thanks :)

Jeff are you checking the box for the livery you are loading into FS?

I assume that the versions differ on the model= entry in the aircraft.cfg. So while it would of course be interesting to know why the ACE doesn't help you, you could backup your current aircraft.cfg and edit this model= line to receive the model without the cabin.

Hi guys,

Yes, I checked it for every livery to see and still no luck. Editing the cfg was something I didn't think about. I'm gonna take a look at that now as see. I'll let you know how i make out.

EDIT, I opened the model cfg and it confirms what I was seeing. I am changing the model reflected there. I will report back. Thanks Guys.

It worked guys. There is something causing the ACE not to write to FSX. Manually editing both model cfg files did the trick. Thanks again. :)

Just an update as the 737 is almost there.

The next free update (SP 0.9) of the 737-200 has been released. http://www.captainsi.../x737/sp09.html

BTW the 0.9 delivers a complete PAX cabin. Now it's the whole thing from the wipers to the aft galley:

Looks really great! I know some people don't care for cabins but I personally love them and cs does really fantastic work its fun checking out the cabin and I'm glade there still doing it.

I prefer the no-cabin model for better framerates. It was a great idea for CS to make the cabin optional. I say well done CS!

I actually do get good FPS even with the cabin, a pleasant surprise indeed, but I like having plenty of "reserve perfromance" (lol) for bad weather, large airports, etc.

The "Step II" forum was placed in read-only mode today and an anouncement made that version 1.0 is "almost there". Great news. They must really be working overtime at CS.

It's not just the heading bug. I think all rotating switches are painfully slow especially with the mouse wheel. The radios, altimeter setting, ADI knobs, pitch command, cabin pressure, etc. S l o w w w w . It take about 3 clicks of the wheel to move from 118.20 to 118.25

 Thanks for the HU. Great news that is and just in time for the weekend.

Seeing her for the first time now (in full beauty), I'd say that they've improved the feeling over the already amazing 707. The new cockpit sounds are well done and more subtle than on the 707. Although coming with a rather slow gauge refresh rate, which surely helps the frames, the fps impact on my system isn't noticeable so far. Flying around KSEA right now, doing some TNGs. Great engine sounds all the way!

I may disable that cabin later, as I'm a VC only and not much cabin guy, but, so far, it works out nicely. Beautiful handling on the first attempts and the texture work is once again great. A big thanks to all the testers involved, rendering 1.0 very stable and intuitive for me while being on the first miles.

Gents,

1. Thank you all who have took part in the 0.X versions testing. (17 pages just on this forum!) Your input is very appreciated. This was the first but hopefully not the last STEP II EXPERIMENTAL release.

2. The 737-200 version 1.0 has been released.

3. The 737-200C (Convertible) and the -200F (Freighter) expansion models have been released.

4. The 737-200ADV and the 737-100 expansion models have been updated to work with the 1.0.

That means the first and the only complete line of the Boeing 737 Original variations is done and availble for instant download.

Details as usual at: http://www.captainsim.com

I love it. I mean, I liked the 707 from Captain Sim, but I love this 737.

As for the comments above. This is a -200 model, hand flying is what you should spend the better part of your time doing. Above 10,000' en route you shouldn't be getting many heading changes.

I can't present a video, but that hdg bug moves rather fast with the left/right clicks and very slow (but precisely) with the mousewheel. Performing a 180 didn't take more than 3 seconds with the mouse button held. I'd wish for some faster mousewheel interaction too, but the left/right click works ok so far.

Ok, I've measured the speed, that's 3.8 seconds for a 180 degree turn. Lets hope the AP doesn't follow that fast. EZCA shouldn't interfere much, the clickspot is pretty big and you can also drag it around as long as you keep that button pressed.

I've only had a few attempts so far and the hdg setting via VC worked fine. Maybe some guys cheat with some FSUIPC offsets or CS alters the commands.

The heading bug is fine as it is, nothing needs fixing, you can use left/right clicks to get it near where you want and then the mouse wheel to fine tune it, this is in fact much like what you would do in real life, i.e. a big turn of the dial to approximately where you want, and then a couple of seconds to fine tune it. Hand flying a 737 is not flying it like a Cessna 172 either, they are quite often hand flown, and this was especially the case before FMCs showed up and navaids were not as commonplace. That's why Boeing put those two big yokes in the cockpit, and why they have all the paint worn off them.

I think CS have done a great job with their 737-100 and 200, I'm surprised at how well they perform in FS too, getting very good frame rates indeed on my system. If I had any gripes at all with them, it would be a slightly better EPR sim and some gutsier JT8D sounds, since they are a bit on the weedy side aurally for a turbojet, but these alone are not big issues for me, since one of them at least could be solved by a third party add-on, and I can live with the other as I did with this on the CS 727 and 707.

We know what JF's 200 is like, and we know what CS's 200 is like now, both having a good deal of merit for me, so all we need to know now, is what is the MILVIZ one going to be like? Anyway, now we've got some decent original, classic and NG 737s for FS, all we really need is that FSL A320. Well, that and PMDG's DC-6... and a 787... and A2A's F-4... and the Dodo UH-1D... and...

Well done CS. :Applause:
