March 14, 201214 yr I suspect that MS probably checks the file integrity of your Flight installation (unless you never connect to Live again) and if caught with mods or other workarounds would resort in possibly being blocked from Windows Live. I mean, you have to figure that MS isn't going to put up with people downloading a game for free, then building it up with external addon's. The days of MS being lax are over, just ask all the Xbox owners who were banished from Xbox Live when they tried to mod their consoles and OS.

The days of MS being lax are over, just ask all the Xbox owners who were banished from Xbox Live when they tried to mod their consoles and OS. You may be right, but why not give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt here and see how they react. After all, they have been very open with Kinect mods/"hacks" which wouldn't match the narrow goal of only selling as much content as possible in the short-term that many people seem to think they hold. Xbox Live is also a pretty different beast, as essentially all of the mods for it are intended to either cheat in competitive online games or play pirated content. Flight mods have the potential to expand the appeal of the core Flight platform, thereby potentially increasing DLC sales in the future.
March 15, 201214 yr The answer to this is somewhere in the "Freedom of Speech" thread. The Flight forum is different than other forums, it gets moderated and sometimes threads are even locked. It's not like other sub-forums where you can call people wife beaters and get away with it.Maybe sometime in the future it will become easier to investigate the inner workings of Flight.
March 15, 201214 yr It is also pushing the envelope to try things. Paranoid customers, or forum owners, will cringe and imagine all sorts of dire consequences at the mere mention of changing Flight. I doubt they have any specific knowledge as to the bounds, if any, on changes to the program. If so, an overly cautious approach is in stark contrast to the open Internet many have come to use and enjoy. Would the terror that Microsoft exudes, by implication, cause a similar restriction on posts for a one-person company with a payware product? regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA

March 15, 201214 yr Here is my suggestion.....And... why not take a brilliant strategy of EPIC Games with his famous Unreal Engine? ... It has been the best of three worlds ... EPIC wins , such as software houses that develop games or ad-ons payware, as well the entire freeware community and freelancers .How this is done is very simple ... Put at the disposal of the whole world the UDK (a complete sdk that is updated monthly with new innovations) for FREE!Whoever wants to can download, experiment, create your applications and games, make your movies .... but... HAVE TO DISTRIBUTE THEM FREE ..... MAY NOT BE CHARGED.Whoever wants to take economic advantage of their creations will make a commercial contract and pay royalties, but until then EPIC is very flexible ... just starts to collect business licenses who have income above $ 50,000.Result ... of this strategy was that the Unreal Engine technology is present in almost all the games and platform ... Pc, xBox, PS, iPhone, smartphones and more ..... presently in some Hollywood movies. (Microsoft also was one of those who acquired licenses to use ...)....more ... began to appear all over the world young people with enormous creativity that always end up joining the big companies that develop games and beyond. For those who want to confirm or try the UDK, please do: main site - http://www.udk.com/ Licensing: http://www.udk.com/licensingThis could be a strategy that Microsoft could adopt as a friendly aproach , to the Simmer community and to the Gammer community. From what I can perceive, the Gammer community will not interested in buying all the DLC's ... will acquire only those who give them more fun and while Flight is a novelty. Do not think they will buy all the DLC's that are released. On the opposite side, the community Simmer, is different and has it been proven over time ... mostly, buy almost the entire world ... if only to make long flights, or from time to time, perform the famous World Tour. The frewware community will continue to provide free stuff to the wonderful freeware library file from AVSIM and, the large software houses (Aerosoft, ORBX, F1...) will continue to sell their products but according to a commercial license from Microsoft.Cheers
March 15, 201214 yr I think I posted the original post. I just wanted to know if it was possible now I can't even find that post. Oh wellI give up posting here, I will leave the posting to the same three people who post all the time here .It truly is the happy clapping forum lol. http://forum.avsim.n...50#entry2294185The post was not removed but locked .Regarding what the devs can do with this information , nothing , and for the same reason as Avsim, hacking cannot be supported with any product on the market, for very long time a policy of preventing piracy has been at the forefront of saving the developers from torrent downloads of their various products, Flight is not FSX , until such a time as there is a legal pipeline to mod the game there is no grey zone .That said the various bits of information gleaned from the exploits were invaluable insofar as developers were concerned, but at the same time it`s forbidden fruit , until that changes there are few options other than a change in diet open to the 3PD`s , Hacking Flight is a very wormy apple .
March 18, 201214 yr Hmph.. It's all about exporting proper models now.. However, I manage to export from 3Ds in such way, that game loads and I can access hangar.. (with invalid export game just crashes during loading, tested). There are some extra string references, pointing to custom version (as I already had found out), and it makes me a little confused that they had relocated some data to others sections (ref granny file format). Vector data and tritopologies ARE however in that section 2 (as far I as I know..) Attached bones to meshes, got working animation..
March 18, 201214 yr As far as I know, you are likely in legal trouble with MS by modding the game. Until we get the greenlight, I would stay away from messing with the .PAK files.
March 18, 201214 yr Commercial Member In the past, MS made money from selling the base game. They made no money from 3rd party add-on's. Now, they make NO money from the base game, but money from add-on's (DLC), so they have a very high incentive to PREVENT people from hacking there own content into Flight. Just keep that in mind. What you do, you do at YOUR OWN RISK. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer

What you do, you do at YOUR OWN RISK.Let me put it this way. I like Flight. I have purchaced DLC:s. I want to flight more, but I am not satisfied with the DLC content Microsoft give me and as far as I can see, nothing interesting is coming lately. I want to expand my game experience by using planes, which I had previously paided for (eg. FSX). Using planes which I want to, and flying where ever I want. Its so wrong?
March 18, 201214 yr Moderator Yes, it is wrong on oh so many levels. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
March 18, 201214 yr Commercial Member Yes. Since you wont be paying the dev's who spent millions to create the game. The development of the game is being paid by people buying the DLC. If people hack/crack/mod there own aircraft into Flight, then that can and will hurt sales of DLC, and development on Flight stops. Its that simple. When you buy an add-on for FSX, you only license it for FSX. So porting your add-on to other sims is against the license agreement with almost every 3rd party maker. Some have been kind in allowing FS9 aircraft to port into FSX due to its simplicity, but not all. Also let me tell you right now, as a former dev on the team, and a 3rd party add-on maker, FSX add-on's will not work in Flight. Save your time. Things have changed in so many ways that there will be no simple conversion tool. I can understand importing your own livery, but aircraft? Your biting off more then you can chew. If you can do it, im sure MS would pay you well for it. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer
