Probably .... the best addon I've ever bought

For the heavy iron I like to fly real world procedure as but it seems IF uses the FSX database which is now very outdated - I notice even Plan-G will be moving to Navigraph with v3.

Thanks Bruce. The wait is nearly over. This kind of functionality will be covered by an upgrade pack soon, more later. In the meantime here’s a snippet from the IF forum:

The trouble with AIRAC data sets is they don't necessarily contain the same airports as the sim. When you choose an AIRAC cycle in IF, the indexing process keeps note of the airports common to both AIRAC cycle and the simulator scenery, and makes an airports subset. With the AIRAC Common Subset you can be sure your flights only take you between existing airports in the sim AND in the cycle to be compatible with the loaded cycle in the plane.

I purchased IF10 a few weeks ago, based largely on what I've seen in threads like this. I have not been disappointed. Though I am listed as a newbie, I've been simming since MS Flight Simulator first arrived on the PC back in the early-mid 80's. Gorgeous 4 color CYMK graphics and 1-2 FPS on landing approach! Those were the good old days, eh?

I quit flying simulators a few years ago, when I realized that I was spending more time planning flights than actually flying. I typically used 4 or 5 different programs, including a two I wrote myself. Not to say that planning is not enjoyable in itself, but I guess I got kinda burned out.

IF10 has played a big role in jumpstarting a renewed enjoyment of computer flying. Thanks, SteveW et al. Looking forward to the updates!

I am interested in only one thing of this addom. The failure system.

But not make random failures. I want to know if it make failures depending on the way the plane was flought (if bad, of course..) and life time of it. How they are fixed? Are they fixed completelly so always have a 100% perfect plane like first day? I would be interested how are they applied to third party addoms planes like PMDG J41, Carenado ones, RealAir Lancair....

Thanks!

To an extent. If you pull high G then the probability of failures is greater during that time. This is additional to any failure systems that come with the addon. Failures are fixed between flights. All aircraft are treated the same. You can set the plane serviced or not in the mission page, this is the engine time maintained by FSX which is set to zero between flights if the plane is serviced. There's more to come in a future update. Thanks for your interest.

I installed this program last night just to have a look at the demo, but now I find that whenever I start FSX that FSX starts up wherever I left off the last flight e.g. in mid-air. My FSX used to start up and show the Free Flight screen and I wish that I could return to this. How do I stop Ideal Flight from taking over how my FSX is started up? Do I need to change something in the fsx.cfg file?

Thanks for any help.

Kind regards,

Shug

May all your landings be safe ones!

There is an option in the FSX settings menu for the home screen. However, if you like going straight to the home screen, then SimLauncher may be for you since it lets you set your flight up before you run FSX.

On the added plus side it is free as well. .. Check the AVSIM library. ..

IF didn't take over FSX sets Show Opening Screen to off when you started with a Flight and not the menu. If you start with this setting, run IF flight then end FSX you will find the setting is unchanged. IF does nothing to your cfg. You can make a setting to ensure that stays put if you like, set at either menu or sim. When you press the IF:FSX Icon the sim always starts at the menu. In the FSX General Tab check Show Opening Screen and even if you run IF flights the setting will stay put.

I posted this on FSN a few days ago, IF's Upgrade includes a major update, and is still under construction, but release is weeks not months:

I thought to take a break for a few minutes and explore what's in store soon for current owners of IF, and also a little more about the Upgrade planned. The UI thread count has been increased so that sounds and icons/buttons light up at the same time; and also the UI now feels more fluid. I've improved the sounds slightly, but there was a problem in the format of the originals, depending on your sound system. We've got adjustable approach leg times, Per-Person-Weight in the loads, Fuel overrides, C&D payload on board switches for loading up the pax/cargo before or after the sim started, Prop and Mixture positions, fog settings, tons of stuff. The weather is good now, I mean complete, realistic, smooth, little or no updates. For the tiny wee purchase price (hopefully) of the Upgrade there is a great deal including one to one handling of FMC planes with some class leading functions to be revealed. An improvement to in-flight feedback comes from the proximity wake and self induced turbulence system, works by moving the airflow around you and not by altering the physics within the sim, affects all the planes in the sim, and also comes with no impact whatsoever in fps! There's also a lot of minor tweaks throughout the program that will make things a little friendlier in use. There weren't a lot of bugs but we got most identified and fixed. I've looked into all corners of the program and applied maximum effort. If you said IF's good, I won't be letting you down. All the best and thanks for supporting me.

Hey G :) of course you are saying that SimLauncher is Free as well as IF having a free mode of use, which provides a very good deal for no cost.

addon-aggeddon for FSXIdealFlight 10 latest version 010[rp]

Ideal Flight gives FSX a hole new face lift. I like it because you can let it choose your route, or you can pick your own city-pair and still get its benefits.

Hey Steve, I was wondering, I have trouble following your update system. What is the logic of the system of [rp] and [np] or what ever. Why don't you just use the numbers like 5.01, 5.02 etc.?

[sf] major version s, minor version f. I just like to do things a little different, but really I've got lots of numbers, db's, notes, and secret plans...

Did you get fed-up waiting for IF to index your new scenery? Because IF indexes your add-in NavData as well now. But have a thought, I indexed way more than you.

Is that why you call the company "Code" Legend? Because to know what upgrade your on, we have to break the "Code". :P
