Looks like Austin was fired over this April fools joke. (lol)http://developer.x-plane.com/
Haha, great post! :LMAO:Love the self-irony. It also defuses my concerns regarding the initial joke.

Regards,

Tom

This one is a much better April fools joke than all others I have seen so far! So funny that they make jokes with real facts, like Austin letting this supposed new X-PLane 10.1 news to get public before April Fools! hahahaha

FSX is already six years old. Bet most aren't hoping for a 10yr old piece of software to be their best flight sim option.
Well, newer isn't always better, i think current XPX proves that. And it's only since the current Intel 'Sandy Bridge' processors that FSX can prove it's true qualities,so you could say it was years ahead of it's time ! :(
I do not think that the flight dynamics engine in FSX is superior to that in X-Plane. ACES did some things better than Austin but who's had the last laugh?
It's still much to early to 'laugh' for Austin yet, i'im afraid, if i read all the complaints about XPX in several forums.

It could never really unfold in the past for various reasons.
Very curious about those ' various reasons ' ..........The question is: will XPX ever be more than 'having great potential' ? :(

With kind regards,

Unless Austin somehow manages to blow it, I would say: Yes, this is X-Plane's big moment

First of all, starting with X-Plane 10.1, we will be removing almost all of the world-wide dynamic scenery that X-Plane is known for. It is simply too much work for us to create, maintain, and improve this kind of massive database, so we are cutting the Global Scenery out of X-Plane starting with version 10.1. Of course, we still need to have some scenery to fly over, so, to keep our jobs simple, we will be cutting the scenery down to the smallest and most geographically isolated area we can imagine: Hawaii.
:(

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I just wish he'd concentrate on delivering his own more complete hyped "plausible" world and tell us when that might happen ! But I'd bet "plausible" has different meanings for different people. For me, that definition is, "plausible" world => 75% of "real" world in urban areas, at least. And, yes, it is time for X-plane and it's creator to come out of the "great potential" or "plausible" cocoon and act mature if either one is going to be taken seriously.

Some people are grumpy even on April's 1st

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

Sigh ..........i've seen better 1 april jokes.XP8 had 'great potential' .....XP9 had 'great potential' .....XP10 still has 'great potential' .....maybe XP11 .............. ???After testing every new XPX demo version i am still disappointed.X-Plane always created the hype of being the better or 'only real' flight simulator and still can't live up to it.Let me guess: Perhaps the Blade Element Theory still calculates only the aerodynamics and not mass and inertia?I am glad FSX still has many years to go with current hardware and dozens of high quality addons still released. Now even Prepar3D is available for 50$ and it's constantly developing, i think it has also 'great potential' wink.pngPerhaps Laminar Reasearch should hire the ACES team that was working on FS11 ?Not to put their efforts to fly XPX on a telephone, just on the basics of flight simulation.Maybe they can start with developing more realistic flight dynamics for the default XPX aircraft? :( :( :(
If X-plane had 2 crappy prop planes and a small area to fly in like hawaii and a dead world with no ai, and no real world weather, and nothing to make it even remotely exciting it would be MS flight.. The joke here is MS and flight. they are going to drop flight like a hot potato once they smarten up and realize that it sucks and their target audience is not interested

My observations about X-Plane and its plausible world:
  • XP10 does have a GREAT 3D engine
  • that 3D engine provides a lot of POTENTIAL for great sceneries
  • granted, automatically GENERATED scenery will never be as good as hand-crafted sceneries
  • but it still looks way better than what FSX provides OUT OF THE BOX
  • some people are COMPARING APPLES WITH ORANGES

Something interesting about the old FSX engine. I loaded up prepar3d 1.3 on the weekend to check it out, I wanted to see if it ran better on ATI cards than FSX. In doing so I found out a couple of things. It didn't run any better, it ran a little slower for me. I used some ORBX scenery and tested with FSX using the timely free side by side licence. Timely otherwise I might not have done it. It ran really well, hundred and hundreds of buildings in the scene and it kept going over 40 fps at around 3000x1080. Just the other day I started to try out OSM2xp and it's scenery. It really started to populate with world which was great except if I looked out at the cockpit at 1920x1080 my frames would drop to 10. So, this isn't a reply specifically to your post but to some others talking about the age of FSX. Compared to xpx today it runs very well on current hardware. On my hardware it runs better and does not look worse or dated. Apples and oranges are certainly being compared which is what makes the april fools joke silly. It's like a medium sized car manufacturer having a laugh at a small VW while not commenting about the porches VW make as well. It often looks good out of the box compared to FSX but FSX is no slouch in some areas. It's just the landmarks that really get me with xpx, the lack of them. XPX may look visually nice but I keep looking at areas in FSX and saying it looks better because it is recognisable.

Fs_AV,I removed your post as it contained a personal attack as well as was just more of the save provocative stance. I am really curious why you write in here if you have such low opinions of this sim. Please don't answer me here, but if you would like to explain what the motive is please pm me. In any case, I advise you to take a voluntary break from posting in this forum for awhile, beginning right now. Thank you.Kind regards,

Stephen, have PM'd you, awaiting your response.

Perhaps Laminar Reasearch should hire the ACES team that was working on FS11 ?
Why?It's the 3rd party developers that made FSX what it is, not the ACES team (no offense to them). IMO, FSX lags behind XPX out of the box. Stock FSX wasn't impressive at all, IMO, at release. FSX and XPX are both great products with add-ons though. I do like the performance and graphics of XPX much better though.*EDIT* Just want to emphasize that these are my opinions. :(

The main thing that puts me off X-Plane is the dull lighting/textures. While FSX already has rather dull lighting it's even worse with X-Plane. Even the sunniest of days looks like an overcast thunderstorm day in that sim and everything seems to be shrouded in the greyest grey you ever saw.
