April 2, 201214 yr Hey, I just tried the update after seeing Gason's post, and I'm sure they've modified the graphics options! A new selection, maximum, that from what I can see, adds heaps more objects! It still runs real well on my 3yo pc and 560 gpu. Very impressive. Tell me if I'm goin mad... I know xplane well, and this update makes it look like it, with all the thousands of objects. But I swear the airports also are improved in look.... April 2, 201214 yr Hey, I just tried the update after seeing Gason's post, and I'm sure they've modified the graphics options! A new selection, maximum, Fwiw, The "maximum" option is not new for those graphic selections, I had them prior to the update as well - as long as your system meets what Flight considers requirement for those options, they will be available. Now that is certainly not to say they have not added some new graphics, but the option itself has been there since day 1. Don B
April 2, 201214 yr Regarding "maximum" graphics option. From a thread at the Flightsim.com forum regarding night light reflections on water; it seems that whether the maximum setting was initially available was dependent on the video card installed. Even though I had the Maximum option available I had High selected, most likely to address stuttering in certain areas. I changed it to Maximum in order to see the lights reflected on the water. It wasn't just lights that were reflected but all land objects. I haven't gone into Flight to update yet and unfortunately I haven't fully investigated why I had High selected. Jim F.
April 2, 201214 yr Don't confuse Maximum scenery density with Maximum scenery quality. - Max scenery will give you an extra 'ring' of autogen in the distance: the amound of autogen around the plane is the same as with High. Loading takes a LOT longer with Max while you hardly notice the difference during flight so I have it as High. - Max scenery will give you reflections of everything while High only reflects a few things.
April 2, 201214 yr Don't confuse Maximum scenery density with Maximum scenery quality. Just ran a job and did some testing whilst I had info displayed on the lcd display of my Logitech G19 keyboard, ie framerates, gpu usage, gpu temp, ram usage. I have had all my graphic options set to the highest level - maximum for the first several, then high ( as that is the highest available), for the last two. I have to say, I am really impressed with how Flight makes such good use of the video card. Throughout the flight, my gpu usage ran between 85-99%. Huge increase in how Flight uses the vid card, versus FSX. My video ram usage stayed around 750 mb. Btw, I did this testing with my new GTX 560 Ti 2gb video card that is now in my system. Anyway, thought I would check out the effect changing some options had, I reduced the " Maximum scenery density" from maximum, to high - and this yielded me probably the largest framerate improvement - I instantly gained around 8 fps by just moving this option down to high. And I could really not see hardly any difference visually over what I was seeing prior at maximum. I will say though, my eyes ain't what they used to be so others may see more of what they lose than I did. Don B
April 2, 201214 yr And I could really not see hardly any difference visually over what I was seeing prior at maximum. I will say though, my eyes ain't what they used to be so others may see more of what they lose than I did. Density of objects close to you is the same, but objects are displayed at much greater distance and at a greater density far away. After the update they are drawn even further according to the dev: objects as small as 5 pixels will now be displayed vs the original threshold of 10 pixels.
April 2, 201214 yr Those clouds - seriously? What are they - cotton wool balls? It's a major improvement over before the update, where they'd line up in rows. I suspect they're intentionally unattractive to make people try the other weather themes, which are very interesting. It can't be coincidence that every other weather theme has reasonably attractive clouds. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

April 2, 201214 yr Isolated thunderstorms... hmm... I was flying in that weather theme and there was more blue sky than cloud. If you're flying over the main island, there aren't many clouds there. Once you get away from the main island, you'll see all sorts of weather. Just remember, it's fairly random what you'll encounter. Hook Larry Hookins Oh!
