C90B Garmin 400W Series Trainer - WAAS software version 3.00

Featured Replies

Now that we know for sure that the GPS 400 will be the Garmin 400 or 400W, the simulation training software (including WAAS) can be downloaded at http://www8.garmin.c...ils.jsp?id=3532 for the 400W. The software for the 400 must be bought on the Garmin web site. If the model is the 400, there will not be TAWS alerting compatibility nor the ability to do WAAS approaches unless in the case of the real unit, upgrade the GPS 400 with WAAS navigation capabilities to fly precision WAAS approaches.

Garmin will discontinue the 400W model this year, so the software may not be available in the future for free. The 400 has been discontinued for some time.

The Garmin trainer is not much use to us, since the Carenado GPS400 is essentially a repackaged FSX GPS.

If you own the RXP GNS430W, it is likely the closest you can come to the real GPS400W.

Basically you ignore the radios on the 430, and use the other features.

Will definately try to retrofit the Carenado with the RXP GNS 430 a second after the buy!

Thanks Bert, what would we do without your knowledge on this topic :Applause:

Why do these guys always release their products with outdated junk that has to be fixed. They do some really nice work and then always fine a way to just trash it up. It is a shame really.

I asked this in another thread but are they not going to include the rxp integration with this bird?

Doesn´t seem

I asked this in another thread but are they not going to include the rxp integration with this bird?

Doesn´t seem to, but from the developers point of view I can understand it as the C90 has fixed Navs and Coms so IRL lots of C90s are equiped with the "GPS only"- garmin 400 - Unit without Nav/Com-knob to the left. So I think they wanted to keep it as real as possible and chosed that one, but I admit it would be a nice feature to give us RXP owners the option to retrofit, we only have to live with the "useless" Nav-Com-knobs.

But we all can do a hopefull prayer that Bert could help us out with a selfmade retrofit Nail%20Biting.gif !

Dam I never even thought for a minute it would not have the integration, as small as this seems its a deal breaker for me.

I know that is so! Bert, don't forget to look both ways before crossing streets till we get intergrated :Worried:

Same here. Disapointing to say the least.

Exactly me too, for all the time they spent on Developing it, it has been ruined and Im not buying it and never again will I buy any of there products unless it going to work with RXP, simple as that.

This is getting ridiculous...

Folks they built a King Air C90B model... They were first built in 1992, back when a GPS unit was a luxury not standard item, even in something as big as a King Air.

Its wasn't until 2000 or so when the C90GT was introduced they began building the C90B's standard with all the bells and whistles all of ya'll are demanding today...

Good grief... this is ridiculous... they built and older 90B model... and all ya'll are foaming at the mouth cuz it didn't come equipped with triple FMC's... and more EFIS displays than the flight deck of the Space Shuttle... Ya'll want a HUD too?

How about full auto land capable triple channel autopilot?

Plz people this has truly gone beyond those who were upset because of the bugs in the release model... its now evolved into everyone being upset over this bird not being something it was never intended to be in the first place...

Either buy it or don't, fly it or don't or just go back to your PMDG level fully automated whizzbang special, where it does all the flying for you... God forbid anyone actually hand fly anything these days, or navigate the old fashion way...

You know those of us who actually do fly IRL, enjoy flying the way it was done before everyone relied so heavily on GPS and full automation...

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Jacoba,

I don't think it's getting too ridiculous. The Garmin 400 (the real one) is much more capable and has more features than the FSX version. THIS is what the people are complaining about. If Carenado is going to spend all this time making the C90 a realistic aircraft then the avionics better be that way too. If the GNS 400 is just a repackaged unrealistic FSX version (which I'm assuming from everyone's complaints) then why not throw in a more capable and realistic piece of avionics that is the RXP 430. I'm sure there is a way to blank out the comm's part to make it more like the GNS400; and even if there isn't, pull one of the Collins com and nav modules. Aircraft that are built in the 1960's have new panels and avionics in them, why not do the same with the C90 to keep up with the times. No one is asking for an FMS and glass panel and a HUD, like you suggest. Just a GPS unit that you can enter in waypoints without having to set a flightplan from the FSX menu. THAT is not realistic.

And I do fly in real life, and I truly enjoy using a Garmin 430 or 530 better than using VOR's to triangulate my position. It just works better at situation awareness and accurate navigation. I guess what you're saying is that you'd rather fly an NDB approach at night, down to minimums, rather than do an RNAV approach in the same conditions? Come on, give me a break. I admit that all real world pilots need to be proficient in all the current forms of navigation, but to say that pilots enjoy the way it was done is ridiculous for the reasons I states above. If you just fly VFR, yes, GPS is a luxury you don't need. But the C90 wasn't designed with just VFR in mind.

Us real world pilots love flying and love technology that makes it safer and easier to enjoy what we do. GPS does that reliably, and when it's screwy, we use VOR's and ADF and dead reckoning as backup. So, Carenado should have put the RXP 430 in there because it would be as unrealistic as putting the current FSX G400 in there.

We can all lighten up now, as the service pack brings the ability to replace the 400 with our beloved RXPGNS430W kit... :) as well as a few fixes and improvements... they are getting there...
