I can only hope MS sales reflect that this strategy is a disaster.

If not, well don't be surprised.

The instant gratification population is larger than those of us who take flight seriously.

But, I still suspect the instant gratification children who will spend money on no VC aircraft will soon be bored without more stimulation, like things that ooze blood, and things that blow up.

Hmmm? And there was I thinking that those who craved instant gratification and more stimulation were the ones bleating on, ad nauseam, about missing cockpits and not having pretend people to talk to (aka ATC).

Don't misunderstand me, I too would like those things, but I don't share your misplaced arrogance about those who don't...

Add cockpits MS its not like rocket science to make one in maya, zmodoler, 3d max. Just treating its comsumer base like smurfs. Guess all spend my money on Angry Birds and FSX and Xplane, planes

Considering the mood and tone of the posts in comparison, I think I would rather hang with the "Instant gratification children"

In fact I have just decided to get the P-40

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

I would love to have this thread locked. Why? Because so many people are criticizing MS for making cockpitless planes that are what they call "useless". Those cockpitless planes are not useless. They are very helpful in giving us achievements, aerocaches, and awards. Think of the "bigger" audience for example. They think that the cockpitless planes are fun because they are cheap and easy to fly. (With the exception of the P40)

Now, if you think that those planes are still useless, then you might as well not post in the Flight forum or post somewhere else in the forum that interests you. FSX is out there and you can easily have fun with it. If you don't like it, then don't buy it. It's your opinion on what you think about them. If you want to express your opinion, then feel free. Make sure though that you state "In my opinion" before your state it.

Just to conclude, if you don't like a certain thing from MS, Keep it to yourself. Others may like it. Key statement is, "If you don't like it, then don't buy it". Simple as that. Don't know why some people still don't understand.

Seriously... if the "haters" have to shut up and quit jabbing and prodding, then so do the "######."

Seriously... if the "haters" have to shut up and quit jabbing and prodding, then so do the "######."

I am just curious - I have seen this stated a few times of late, how would you define a " ######"?

I myself have been accused of being just that, and I seriously would not think of myself in that vein.

When I think of what someone might consider a "######", it would be someone that continually praises Flight, sees absolutely no wrong in it, believes it is all they could ever want it to be, and everything has been done right for it and no room for criticism.

Now I msyelf do not see that many that participate in this forum, and enjoy the program for what it does offer, that really would fall into that category - at least what I would perceive a ###### to be. Maybe a couple, not much more than that if that many.

I do see several folks that are enjoying the program for what it does offer, while at the same time being " contructively critical" of what it may be lacking for them, or some things they would like to see implemented or added, like say toe brakes for axis assignments , Track IR support, another full VC airplane with maybe a gps and autopilot, or some ai aircraft or airport vehicles.

On the other hand, there have been a few - albeit just a few but they are there nonetheless, that no matter what is said will see absolutely no good with the Flight program, and continue to berate the sim and those that do find some enjoyment in it. These same folks, may have done nothing more than download the originally free program and went no further with it, if even that. These types of folks, should have their behaviour addressed. I have been called a boy in my early teens, referred to as a 15 year old gamer, could never be a serious simmer, etc. I personally do not think that type of rhetoric belongs here.

Now if a pro Flight person was to come in and berate those that do not like Flight, and say similar sarcastic things to them and berate them, then yes I would wholeheartedly agree - that type of behaviour should not be allowed here.

It really is all about behaviour, showing respect, and being able to constructively critisize versus berating - from both sides of the aisle so to speak.

This attempt at censorship is embarrising at best.

I like Flight and will continue to follow it, a little more casually now until Alaska or something else comes up.

Enthusism needs to be tempered with realsism.

Can we be a little more evenhanded here please?

Sorry dburne, you posted before I completed my post.

How many people on this message board have a spouse that doesnt care for flight simming? And of those folks, do you then tell your spouse to like it or shut up? :)

Maybe we should just tell each other's spouses? Like that we wouldn't get into so much trouble... :)

Your assessment is pretty much right in line with the archetypical web-forum "######." It's the exact opposite of the "hater." One sees no wrong, the other sees no right, and they both feel compelled to push their view onto the world and shout down their opposites.

Both are equally disruptive to forums, although the "######" isn't nearly so obvious about it. Yet, if you take a long look at certain forums that have come to be completely dominated by the "######" (the one for the home-theater equipment maker Emotiva comes to mind, if you would like to see an example of this beast in the wild) it becomes apparent that they are totally dysfunctional as a forum. There is no true discussion... only a group of die-hard fans obliviously toeing the line, often reveling in willful ignorance, and screaming at anyone who tries to express even a moderate point of view.

I have a suspicious feeling that there are probably some Apple forums like that too, but I don't frequent them. Just Kidding.gif

But, I digress...

If the extremists on side of the "argument" are muzzled, it's patently unfair and, in the long term, destructive to the forum to permit the extremists on the other side to continue.

It really is all about behaviour, showing respect, and being able to constructively critisize versus berating - from both sides of the aisle so to speak.

Indeed. If somebody remarks that they don't like a certain aspect of the product, they shouldn't be told to pack sand because some people do like it. And if somebody remarks that they do like something, then they shouldn't be insulted by other people who can't stand it.

If someone is unable to express their opinion without taking pot-shots at others, or simply attempting to disrupt other discussions in order to push their agenda, then they are the one who needs to go away. Regardless of where their opinion falls.

It's the inability of many people to do that that's brought us here.

I've expressed my low opinion of cockpitless planes many times and have never been told to "go pound sand." Maybe it has something to do with the way I say it. Maybe it's my overall attitude. Maybe it's because it was obvious that my motive in saying so wasn't to bash Flight.

Agreed, and with any luck this will happen now.
