June 11, 201213 yr Also following this thread with curiosity- I've seen a number of comments on how the REX-E presentation is wonderful, yet lacks the accuracy per station, as well as winds aloft that AS2012 offers. If anyone is curious and wants to compare the current radiosonde soundings for locations around the globe, this website has them: http://weather.uwyo.edu/upperair/sounding.html You can then see if REX-E matches that accuracy, whether those winds are predicted on the ADDS FD winds aloft forecast page or not. My question about the REX weather engine is in seeing weather in the distance. Much of hazardous weather flying is done on a see-and-avoid basis- we see the weather ahead, and make a decision to alter course, press on, divert, etc. How have you guys seen this presented in the program? June 11, 201213 yr Perhaps someone can share some insight on how to configure it, but REX seems to have this huge delay when updating weather; then I arrive at an airport and the weather changes 3 times in the time I'm in the pattern. The weather at my destination should be set before I get there, and the same goes for enroute. I'm also having this problem whenever I use the REX engine. When I access FSUIPC or any other tool from the addons menu, the screen just goes blank. Jim Shield Cybersecurity Specialist

June 11, 201213 yr Back on topic, I am a big fan of REX and I am very appreciative of this update. However, I am still going to stick with AS2012 for weather. Scott KGPI

Or just use REX for textures and AS2012 for weather? June 12, 201213 yr I am using some of the REX textures(some water etc etc). I am using AS2012 for everything else. REX has some amazing stuff, don't get me wrong. Just personal preference at this point. Scott KGPI
June 12, 201213 yr I'm loving REX Essential for the most part although the weather engine data takes AGES to load. 5 minutes in my case. And I thought FSX loading times were slow! The graphics and immersion are fantastic though and this was a FREE upgrade. REX Essential really is "as real as it gets". Just wish it loaded faster :P
June 27, 201213 yr What i see on that video is that rex shows to much fog like today in fl is clear and cloudy skys i get in the sim and there is fog every where lol
June 28, 201213 yr High humidity cause a haze to appear. Is this a defect or reality? Also, someone mentioned the lack of a comprehensive current weather depection as in Active Sky. I second that. The little radar, etc. tool that is used to manage REX weather, once in flight, has very little utility since it only shows extremes. The lone exception is the rain on the radar. Otherwise I can't see wind, humidity, pressure, visibility at a selected airport, etc. For me that little screen has little utility. regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
June 28, 201213 yr What i see on that video is that rex shows to much fog like today in fl is clear and cloudy skys i get in the sim and there is fog every where lol Turn off "realistic haze layer." To me, it just puts way to much haze at all times and isn't necessary. In the REX manual they hint at not using that feature. Probably for good reason.
June 28, 201213 yr I'm really trying to give REX essential a fair evaluation and I have just begun but I have to say that so far the weather loading times are so painfully slow that it's about to drive me to complete insanity. FSX loads in seconds but the weather takes ages. The user interface is also very sluggish, which is not really a big deal but if you're already upset about slow loading times it doesn't make you feel any better. That being said the visuals are simply amazing, not just the weather-related things but everything. The sounds are also great but I had to edit the precipitation sounds and amplify them with like 200-300% to even be able to hear them as I could barely notice them even when the engine sound level was turned almost all the way down. I'm not sure if this is because of some weirdness on my side though.

In regards to the weather loading being slow are your referring to when REX Essential starts up initially or when injecting weather into FSX? Probably for good reason. thanks i did that and still the same i been playing with it and it looks like it has to do with visibility settings if i turn off reall visibillity and put 60nm it looks like it suppose to lol ...here in fl today is so clear there are no clouds i get in the sim at kmco and load rex real weather i see clouds over me and visibility like the picture i first pst it
June 29, 201213 yr I find myself using the free Real Weather instead of REX. The seriously long weather loading (white bar at the bottom) is one reason. The other is the inability to quickly get the current weather where I am. The simple info det on the weather map is not of much use. The REX textures look good. There it seems speed is better if you make a small texture change only that change is updated rather than the entire set. Real WX shown below. I can quickly get to it for comprehensive data. Or, I can type in any ICAO code and instantly get a WX data set. regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
