DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

Learning, always learning...

I also see that my 129 pics - all jpg's converted from .bmp's are slightly 'fuzzier' than the originals. DX10 is quite sharp and crisp.

Steve, Jason and Paul, thanks for all of your help!

I do have the 1/2 vsync setting set up in Inspector and run at full screen. The only time I go to windowed mode is when I have to fiddle with EZdok.

I may have to look into MyTraffic 5.4 as well, once I'm able to solve the bigger problem (the tearing.)

LOD settings are at the default 4.5.

Shimmering is not too bad, though.

I know we are very close to getting DX10 as THE standard FSX setup soon. Really looking forward to it!

Thanks again, everyone!!

Alexander Alonso

Great stuff! Yeah - 5.4 is very 'controllable' with lots of aircraft, miltary, GA, everywhere. Airfields are never empty.

..and you have 30 is set in FSX, Alexander?

The Bad:

2. I use WOAI for airplane traffic and some of the airline textures are not showing up. All I'm getting on these are white planes.

As previously mentioned in this thread, there is a payware product that fixes this issue here http://www.flightsimtools.com/adconvx/

I bought it two years ago and it works great. Have been flying in DX10 for a long time. These new fixes coming out (1/2 vsync and new shader have been great!)

Hi Paul, not sure what you mean by "30 is set in FSX". Ah, do you mean the framerate inside FSX? Yes. I've also tried it at unlimited as well, just for testing, but went back to 30 as standard (with the 1/2 vsync in Inspector.)

Alexander Alonso

Yep 30 fps in FSX, exactly as you've posted. Unlimited won't work.

Sorry clarkresponse, you already replied you don't get tearing in DX10, how are other ATI users getting on with DX10 preview and vsync?

On my HD5800 not had my tearing. Not had any noticeable improvement in FPS either, but everything is so much sharper. I still have bufferpools=0 and have not changed anything in the .cfg yet!

The water is just fantastic

I agree Paul. Around Friday Harbor, my water looks 'mean and angry' with white caps (hey! much like that fake DX10 picture Microsoft used to promote DX10 and Acceleration). LOL! In any case, I kept my settings simple as video cards back when FSX DX10 was developed were not capable of what is in the current video card technology. I think I had the GTX9800 video card which was the state of the art when FSX was first released. Now my GTX 580 does much more with both hands tied behind its back! I did have those AA settings you have in your NI and the vertical sync but it didn't look as good as those awesome pictures you posted in your dropbox site. The pictures look like I'm getting about the same quality as you are. One neat thing about having a dual monitors is that I can fly on one and then open up and modify my NI settings on the other to get the best quality available. I will do some more tweaking but think you are close to perfection.

Best regards,

Jim

Heheheh! Ain't it great! 2600K+580!! Vrooom-VroooooOOOM!!

:drinks: :LMAO:

Just been messing with the rejectthresholds setting to find the sweet spot...the fsx logo is almost totally gone now, and my water is looking beautiful.

Here are a couple of screenshots Taken from a short hop from St Kitts to St Barts.

DX10 is how FSX is supposed to look

Notice the frame rate. Right where i want it! I also added REX textures, but used Active Sky 2012 to handle the weather. The St Barts scenery is from FlyTampa.

Farting around with DX10 here, two approch to KMIA with heavy weather (overcast), heavy scenery (urban area) Captain Sim 727, car traffic at 60% everything else maxed out, bloom's on, smooth as a baby's butt, no stutterings at all, the only bad thing is autogen popping up at close distance...sorry no landing as I did not have the time to test more, I will make another vid. later.

I almost forgot LOD at 9.4....

Love that water and the clouds look great too! Do you have bloom turned on. Looks like the gauges are getting harder to read with the sun shining on the glass! Cool!

Best regards,

Jim

Yes, bloom was enable, we are getting there with DX10, I mean if we have to tweak better tweak DX10 since the FPS are better from the get-go, water always looked better in DX10 if you ask me.

I'll be testing more, you all keep the good work, any new idea is worth testing.

I loved the second piece where having been in solid overcast, he popped out right on the money! Most Bodascious.

That's what I found with bloom on, too, Jim. I just did a run around Fairchild/Victoria in the C310, and any time the sun was at my back there was a huge "glowball" in the windshield. Pretty disconcerting as I have no sunglasses...

Nice video! Do you have the Miami X 2012 scenery installed?

I'm going to be tweaking further tonight as well. I'm thinking about starting with a fresh FSX.cfg and going from there. The one I currently use has the Bojote and Kostas tweaks, as well as others I may not even remember! :lol

The water's glare in DX10 is something that I would get when using the ENB files. Very nice.

I saw that you were "screen tearing free" in the video. If I can solve that on my system, I'll be pretty much moving to DX10 permanently.
