DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

Thx for the advice Paul, will try your method step by step. :)

Btw, I'm getting those blue fsx logo as well. How and what numbers to aim for with the reject threshold?

I had those blue fsx logos as well, and ive pretty much eliminated them. The following is a direct cut and paste from my fsx.cfg. Im pretty sure the rejectthreshold number is going to vary system to system because everyone has a different setup. So you will have to experiment and find the right number for you. I started out with a lowball number and gradually increased it until i didnt see the logo anymore. I did most of my testing at KCLM bacause just to the north of that airport is the Juan De Fuca Strait and plenty of mountains around to give me complex scenery so id give my card a workout and find out if the current threshold was working. If i found the logo flashing, id exit sim, go back to the cfg and raise the number. Save and then go back to the sim and try again. I spent most of yesterday doing this until i came out smiling.

[bufferPools]

PoolSize=1

RejectThreshold=1431072

Thats my current cfg bufferpool section.

Hmmm... What are you running the proc speed at, Jason? 2.9 is too low to get decent performance, no?

Doing a bit of trial and error, I took my normal TBM down from 120 to 72 and immediately began to get those flashes - small and quick, but they were there, so I upped it to 84 - still there, then to 102, lessened, but still there, and finally back to 120. No flashing at all.

fsx.cfg here:-

VFRDX10.cfg - last pic.

Yep my processor is a quad core at 2.9 ghz. not overclocked. and youve seen my screenshots.

@Anthony: Detailed message sent - check your pm's. Lots of numbers!

Hi Paul,

I also get occasional blue logos in gauges when changing views. What RT value would you suggest as a starting point and also what increment should I use please?

thanks

try whats in my post there

None Paul! BufferPools=0

You don't need an RT! - your GPU is as fast, or faster than the cpu. I'm running 4.9, and it never flashes unless I fiddle with something.. As the post above - I found that if I lowered the TMB - I got some flashing, but I moved it back up. The VFRDX10.cfg (fsx.cfg) is the last pic in the album.

Our machines are pretty much the same - you have the Pro board and I have the DL.

If you set Limited in FSX and leave the GPU as Let App decide, you can set the max pre-rendered frames of the card in the control panel app. When you set Limited in FSX the bufferpool is automated for best results. If you have say 70fps showing with unlimited, when you set Limited you will see around 30fps since the bufferpool is pre-rendered and takes that time up – this means smoother flow of the sim because the sim has to load chunks of scenery. The simulation is much better run with constant fps and a buffer on my system. I don’t run OC but get fantastic smoothness at19fps even as rain or snow comes and goes and large airports with a PMDG737.

Is anyone using the Addon ConverterX program and have the Orbx CEJ4 airport installed? In DX10 mode some of the grass textures and plane textures are missing or messed up.

I tried the demo version of "Addon ConverterX" and it didn't fix the textures as I was expecting. Can anyone else confirm this? I may just not be using the product correctly.

Thanks,

Daniel

........am getting old, this is hard to follow, needs a good clean up.

Am I right in thinking all I do is DL the file, run the set up bat and then set FSX to DX10?

yes, make sure to have a default shader directory and FSX not running.

Yes, just DL the file, turn on DX10 and go fly. I agree this is getting somewhat convoluted with tweaking issues but one must understand all computers are not the same and not all FSX.cfg's are the same. It's a shame Steve's DX10 fix does not work for everyone. It works great for me, Paul, Alain, Jason, and, of course, Steve, to name a few. In fact, for me, it has created a whole new immersion into the FSX world. I am positive it will not be perfect for everyone or even close to perfect but it's a great option for those who want to try. It does not hurt to try as you can simply go back to DX9 and live in that world. I know London scenery from Aerosoft, although nice, it's a killer for any modern computer in regards to framerates. DX10 is not going to improve that, but for other parts of the world, Steve's DX10 fix should work without any problems.

Best regards,

Jim

default as when I installed FSX? or not a C: drive? I have fsx on it's own drive E:?

as in fresh installed

if you have a backup of your fsx directory you may need to rename it so it is after the main one alphabetically for the bat to find the correct one.

I haven't had time to read all 18 pages of this, but wondering if this works with ATI cards?

DX10 cards and above. The mod is to sort out a couple of glitches that show multiple textures competing causing flashing runway junctions with taxiways and missing taxi direction arrows.
