this works great for me except at night on Flytampa airports.......textures for the ground dont show up.....is anyone else having this issue? I figure its becasue it wasnt made for DX10.

Anyone able to get external AA to work with an ATI card? I find that the default DX10 AA isn't sharp enough and if there isn't a way to sharpen it up a little, I'll switch back to DX9.

the OP has said this is an ongoing project, and night textures were being an issue in the early releases, make sure you have the most up to date shader fix available from his site.

Hi FsxHd

I have an ati card too. I would recommend that you read through my blog entries on ati antialiasing and dx10. i would try setting MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 in fsx.cfg and then enhance in ccc (not override which doesn't work with dx10) plus sent the ssaa slider as you desire.

This is something we all will have to work at, Kevin: DX10 is a 'different' simulator: what worked in DX9 doesn't necessarily work when using DX10... and this means that some amount of experimentation is called for, until we reach to point where we can say (for example) "We can use BufferPools=0 when the proc is at 4.5gig+ using a GTX580". This is true. We don't have to experiment. Does it apply when using it with DX10? I'm pretty sure it does, but I've not tried any other figures. Same with FFTF. We - you, me, need to check out all of the combinations that Inspector has, do the same with CCC - and it may be that ATI will rule, with DX10!

@Matthew: I don't expect that the older FlyTampa scenery will 'for sure' work, but FT FS9 Seattle (converted) does in FSX, with a bit of jetway flashing, but it's tolerable.

Is there instructions for a manual install of the shader mod in the case that the installer does not work?

Steve's installer does work ok, Blue, but if you want to do it manually I have now posted the updated \General folder. The default stock General folder is posted in #337 above.

Here is a modified 'General' folder:

https://dl.dropbox.c..._files_included

Download this into a temporary folder, rename it back to "General.zip" and then unzip it.

Go the the FSX root\ShadersHLSL folder and copy the 'General' folder to 'somewhere safe'.

Plonk this one into it's spot - replacing the original one with this version 3.0 modified one.

Done.

Don't forget to delete the Shaders10 folder in your:-

C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX\ folder.

I can confirm that FlyTampa St Maarten works in dx10..after patching. They have patches out for dx10

You're right, Jason - there was that "pink wall" on the approach into St. Barths. I did try it, and have have that patch.

I've also just set Inspector to Enhance the AA, rather than override it. More tweaking.. it never stops.. :(

Your rig is similar to mine, and I have no tearing, so - no, not if we can do it via Inspector. What are your Inspector settings, Mark?

Just realized that I accidentally had DX10 Preview unchecked. I have now enabled again and it al works fine, no tearing, with exception of one issue. I am getting flashing tiles on water. Flashes between the FSX logo and water textures. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi Paul,

Thats great thanks for your help and detailed instructions, I am not experienced at changing the inner workings of the FS, I just like to jump in and fly the beast. Sometimes though you got to make that extra effort! I look forward to trying the mod after work!

Cheers

im getting the same thing, only on the X2 water...try out the X1 high setting, that does the trick for me, gets rid of any flashing. Honestly, i prefer the x1 high water over the x2 settings cuz the "waves" on the x2 water get to repeating and create patterns of the same waves off into the distance. You dont get this with the X1 water. Plus you get a few more frames per second that way, so thats another reason for it

Paul, FlyTampa has a "pink wall "patch out on their forum along with this : FlyTampa_Maarten_FSX_Update_12. the pink wall patch is called DX10_pink_wall_patch

Thanks Paul for the 'clean' General folder. I replaced mine then ran Steve's Shader 3.0 and it installed and then deleted my cache Shader folder in MyApps. When I made the very first mod put out by Steve, I was able to run FSX on my main 30" monitor but had a lot of issues with the graphics so went back to DX9 until I started reading the latest posts here. Now with the latest and greatest Steve Shader update properly installed, my main 30" monitor is dark and my secondary 22" monitor is working. I did an alt/enter to change to Windowed Mode but no success. The graphics are not pleasant but I suspect I need to get rid of nvidiaInspector or modify them as recommended by Mark. I did turn on AA as recommended by Mark but this didn't help. I have now gone back to DX9 as I like to fly on Sunday's while watching the LPGA. Did you have similar issues when you first set up Steve's DX10 mods? Thanks too for all the advice and assistance you are providing here and I know you are a big help to Steve as it can get overwhelming.

Best regards,

Jim

I think I'm seeing some of this but I think it's my display driver settings. My DX10 scenery looks washed out but I'm just beginning to start tweaking. BTW, I really like your computer setup you have displayed in the link in your signature!

Best regards,

Jim

SteveJ: Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication to this project. It is greatly appreciated by all!

Okay. Did some tweaking (well, returned NvidiaInspector settings back to almost the default settings - see below). Actually, it looks great! Here's a pic from Friday's Harbor with a couple of 'glitches' circled in red. The one on the panel might be fixed with some modification of the AA settings. The one near an island is strange. Lots of small black dots which appears to be some type of shading. The black dots were shimmering on the water until I turned AA completely to Application Controlled.

I was able to get FSX on my main 30" monitor but FSX loads onto my secondary monitor and I simply go to Windowed Mode and move FSX over to the big monitor then go to Full Screen. Not understanding why it won't load on the main monitor though but the graphics in DX10 mode on the big screen are pretty awesome except for a couple minor issues as described above.

Here are my NI settings. MarkW - I did not see any flashing tiles on water or flashes between FSX logo and water textures.

Hope this helps some!

Best regards,

Jim

Shimmering, Jim. I have this, too, but more so. For my part it's manageable, and I'm assuming it's going to get fixed at some point down the road. I have to look at and try your settings! - so thanks for posting them!
