DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

Hello Jim -

I tried the demo and didn't see anything fixed. I have some missing plane textures and blocky grass textures using the Orbx free airport CEJ4 as my test location.

Can you give me a location that I can test to see if there is any DX 10 corrections?

Thanks,

Daniel

I don't own FS9 aircraft or scenery anymore so I can't help you. I can only read the addon converter manual. Orbx airports were all made with FSX textures so don't know why you are having a problem there. Blocky textures indicate to me that you have your settings too high for your computer system and FSX is having a hard time rendering. Have you tried PaulJ's NI and FSX.cfg settings? I too get blocky textures in DX9 and DX10 but it's only a fraction of a second and I can live with that. If addon converter is not working for a certain aircraft, you should contact the developers at flightsim and let them know of this problem. There have been a lot of bug fixes since its release back in 2009 when I first bought it. BTW, what aircraft are you having an issue with? Perhaps someone here has the same aircraft and can test it to see if they are having the same problems.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim.

The airplanes are static objects on the Orbx CEJ4 airport. Several parked planes appear without textures. The blocky texture (tall) grass looks like an issue with the texture rendering and the transparent part not working properly. This is not the detail1.bmp grass texture but rather the tall weeds that are in some of the Orbx airports. The textures render properly in DX9.I was hoping the Addon converter X would have resolved the issue. If someone can give me a location that it does resolve a rendering problem, I can confirm that the demo is installed and working.

Thanks,

Daniel

This fix improved my FSX epxerience 100x. If you don't have addon converter x...you must get it. It makes all of my textures compatible with DX10.

That's great news Joshua! Some others have had issues with addon converter x and it makes me feel good to hear it's working great for you. I have received comments that the program works for many others too.

Will addon converter x work for sceneries too? Will this tweak improver performance and quality?

The addon converter x is advertised to fix sceneries made in FS9 and earlier versions of FS. For many it has improved performance and quality (I'm one happy camper!). It's all depends on the eye of the beholder.

Best regards,

Jim

I just took some shots, and indeed CEJ4 airport has grass edging as you describe, Daniel. I didn't check the aircraft, yet, having just recovered from an enforced "Shopping Spree".........

It's strange you are seeing no textures on static objects at an Orbx airport. I was under the impression all objects and textures for Orbx airports was made strictly for FSX. Perhaps you should advise the folks over at FTX/Orbx and let them know about this issue. I own almost all of the Orbx/FTX scenery, like PNW, and many of the commercial airport addons and have yet to see this problem with the grass. Did you install the latest Orbx/FTX Library? It has all the latest scenery objects make for all Orbx products. It should be installed last after any FTX/Orbx airport is installed.

The addon converter x demo only works for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes your FS9 textures will return to FS9 textures.

Yikes! Those look horrible! I don't think this is an addon converter problem, just an incompatibility with those airport textures. I have looked at Orcas and the grass there looks fine in DX10. FTX products are made by several developers and perhaps the developer of this airport needs to upgrade his rendition.

Jim

Your drop box pix show exactly what I was talking about. The tall grass textures at the edge of the runway are not rendering properly in DX10. If you go to the hanger on the airport you will see several static planes parked with out their textures.

Were you running the Addon Converter X when you took the screenshots?

Ran first without, then with, then DX9. Eight aircraft, plus the edge grass are not DX10 compatible, and running the AConv. does not convert them - plus the runway textures are not up to the usual OrbX level of excellence in DX10 or in DX9. This is a suprise, as I think all of the other airports/airfields that I've visited are.

Good Catch, Daniel. Worth a mention on the OrbX Support site.

ummmm...no.. Hi Steve! I'll just go and do that right now! Back in 10....

Just the same, Steve:

The last two pics show the edge grass and aircraft, and the last pic shows the "not-very-real-looking" taxy-way surfaces. (not an issue, by any means..)

Edit - I note that CEN4 is the same.

The ORBX free West Wind airfield has the same grass problem.

I just removed the vegetation texture file. It didn't seem to do any harm and removed the problem.

At your own risk though.

Peter

I "xxx"-d the "ORBX_NRM_CEJ4_grass_dry_PLC.bgl" and that fixed (got rid of) the blocky grass, although it did leave a slew of "good" dry grass alongside the runway, to the degree that noticing the absence the original grass isn't there.

Renaming the "ORBX_NRM_CEJ4_static_GA_PLC.bgl" didn't do a thing, except that I did notice the incompatible GA was reduced from 8 down to 7.

More work....

EDIT: The file is now in the AVSIM Library and you no longer need to do the edits as Steve lists below.

Which file, what is the name at least? I think it's worth mentioning right under the announcement.

Thanks,

Dirk.
