DX10 Flashing Runways - Experimental Shader

Featured Replies

Tried the demo. It brings back the textures but they're semi-transparent so have uninstalled it.

The highmemfix=1 tweak in the FSX.cfg graphics section will help too! I'm too lazy to check right now but does the demo convert all the FS9 textures to FSX? I doubt it does as there would be no reason to purchase it. Just saying....

Best regards,

Jim

However, my water was all a very light shade of blue. I had some FSWC shaders installed at different points, but I'm pretty sure I had restored back to the original shader and still had a horribly light water color, even in ORBX PNW.

Light Blue is the default colour for the 1xH, (I think), Malibu: Anyway - here's a link to the default FSX SP2 ShadersHLSL zipfile, including the default WaterConstants.xml .

https://dl.dropbox.c...ShadersHLSL.zip

Just copy the old one folder complete, along with the WaterConstants.xml, to "somewhere safe', put this zipfile into the root folder of FSX, unzip it and you should then be certain that the issue is not caused by the Shaders, but by some spurious textures that are left over from some other software, such as REX , AS or FSWC.

The same folder, but with the V3.0 mods included, is here in this thread (somewhere) so you can easily switch back to DX10 once your water colour is sorted.

@Jim: I had tried the five or so aircraft that I have in the hangar that get moderate use (I have more that I regret buying.. =@ ), and they all failed, showing just white textures... I've had AC for a few years think it would save me a penny or two, but it's never worked between FS9 and FSX 'stuff', so it's been another one in the back room. ... and then I tried it the other day, and guess what? - that durned li'l thang werked!!!! :drinks: but I don't know about the demo version. Need to look at their support forum I guess.

Hi Paul,

Yes, when I first bought it I had issues with the program too and took it off my system but they have updated it and evidently fixed the problems. It was reviewed here at AVSIM and the reviewer stated it fixed disappearing textures in aircraft. I see on their website that the demo works for 10 minutes and now have the manual. It does not modify any files installed in FSX but performs conversions on the fly as FSX is loading the files. So, if you have a FS9 aircraft, it will convert the files for that flight but not touch any of the installed textures. If it only works for 10 minutes you don't have much time to check out whether it is working or not.

Best regards,

Jim

Have to say,

This fix improved my FSX epxerience 100x. If you don't have addon converter x...you must get it. It makes all of my textures compatible with DX10.

I'm getting steady 50 - 60FPS and it's very smooth now running DX10.

Thanks for your hard work and this wonderful fix.

I was asked if there was a fix for missing dusk, dawn Airport textures aerosoft airports.

I don't have any of those airports. Has anyone else seen this and does add on converter x help in any way?

That is exactly what I want to know.

Is there a way to use this with the Aerosoft or other addon airports and payware aircrafts like PMDG, CS etc. ?

I think this is the only addon I really "need" for FSX, it's the best thing to happen to FSX - well done Steve and thanks.

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

Hi,

So just adding this code will improve FSX?? Everything works but some sceneries won't show textures.... Will addon converter x work for sceneries too? Will this tweak improver performance and quality? Thanks!

Thanks. I'll try that. I'll also make sure my water is set at 2X.

Here is a shot over ORBX KHQM in DX9 and then DX10. There are no other addons in these shots:

DX9

DX10

2012-8-29_23-23-26-262.jpg

Now obviously the DX10 water shader is magnificent, but the texture seems to be screwed up. Overall it's much lighter and a lot of the nice details seem to be missing. Or maybe the DX10 shader is just reflecting a lot more of the sky...? If it is just too much sky reflection it could be adjusted with something like FSWC+, if only they'd have ever finished it...

Does anyone else have similar issues or is this just me?

*edit - I was on vacation for a while and I see Steve's DX10 shader fixes are now at V3.0. I'm still running 2.x I think. Maybe you guys have this fixed already...?

Download my (SP2) ShadersHLSL\General folder, Marc. It is perfectly stock, and should then work ok. See post #337 above.

Yes- he has been working on the aircraft lights, Jason, but I think he's been sidelined by the shading issue - which is fixed - but probably feels that there's more to these lights than meets the eye, as turning on the landing lights, or the strobes will cause the street lamps to come on/go off, or flash in sync with the strobes (Orbx, at least). The "easy" answer is to use the Shockwave Redux lights, which have no issues, and give better-than-stock lights.

Thanks Paul, worked like a charm!

The answer to the specific question is no! V3 adds changes to the virtual cockpit shading - i intend to write a README first post which explains the current status etc and ask to have it pinned.

Now in terms of water, I too see that DX10 water appears much lighter than DX9. If you download and compare the FSWCLite package and try their modified DX10 water40.fx shader its darker and greener but has a shimmer that I don't like. What do you think of it? Can you post a comparitive screen shot in the same location?

Hello Jim -

I tried the demo and didn't see anything fixed. I have some missing plane textures and blocky grass textures using the Orbx free airport CEJ4 as my test location.

Can you give me a location that I can test to see if there is any DX 10 corrections?

Thanks,

Daniel

I know I tried the DX10 shader from FSWCLite and didn't like, but I don't remember what the issue was exactly. I'd have to redownload and reinstall. I can try it again and post a comparison shot, but it won't be till next week since I'm out of town this weekend.

edit - I just looked through the water shader files, and they're annotated pretty well. Maybe someone who knows what he/she is doing can go through the stock DX10 shader and just make adjustments to the final color (basically, do manually what FSWC+ does). I'd try, but I just don't know enough about it.
