Computer Pilot wants me to renew; ridiculous!

Featured Replies

Received an email from the new owners of Computer Pilot asking for me to renew my subscription to a magazine that I haven't received since it was purchased from PC Aviator.

I haven't received a schred of a magazine, not a .pdf version or print version since the January/February (I think) issue. They have the gall to ask me to renew to a magazine that didn't fulfill my entire years subscription in the first place?!?.

I think I'll take that money and start a subscription with their direct competitor instead!

Anyone else experience this?

I dropped them like a bad habit. Wasn't impressed with the articles, the dated news, the basic screenshots, felt like I was reading at times an infomercial on paper. Was hoping the new owners would give 'er a fresh look. Guess they gave 'er a "no look", ha!

I'll stick with my PC Pilot. A great rag.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Thumbs up for PC Pilot. The latest issue is out today and there appears to be a new tutorial series on the PMDG 737NGX. Yippee!

A tutorial by none other than the very talented Jane Whittaker, a former 737 pilot.

Yes, fell for the CP debacle just after taking out a 2 year sub renewal. Will stick with the home grown PCP.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

Same here Arnie. I received 2 issues after paying my sub, and that was it. Not even had an e-mail from them, or an explanation.

As far as I am concerned, they are nothing but corrupt, and took my money under false pretenses.

PC Aviator should have been more prudent when selling CP off to these scoundrels, and I hold them partly responsible, as all contacts should have been honored. Shame on them too. Hope they go under.

Same story here. I subscribed in November last year, and never received a single issue. Does anyone have contact info for the new pwners?

If anyone needs their service email, it is [email protected]

My "how dare you...consider my subscription cancelled" email automatically generated a ticket when sent to that address. No answer back yet...

No reason to get personal with the owner either, lets keep it civil folks.

Dear Sirs

Yes, excuse me, but after being in this hobby and serving these communities for many more years longer than even Avsim and its staff I DO take offense when being called corrupt.

you're probably stuck in some time warp. It is very true that the new owner (and that isn't me, sorry) has run into MAJOR problems re-launching the magazine.

But the subscription you took and didn't get honoured was NOT with him, so you should kindly direct your acid to where it is justified.

I have also replied in detail in another thread here on Avsim, and also on our own forums and in multiple editorial articles on our website (www.computerpilot.com) explaining some of the major problems with getting the new magazine out to the subscribers.

I KNOW the situation is far from ideal, I KNOW people paid (mostly NOT to the new owner) and I KNOW some of our readers went ballistic after receiving the umpteenth INVOICE from the German subscription company. LOTS of things have gone wrong so far.

But.... NONE of those issues has been done on purpose, NO money has been made, just lost, and in no way do ANY of the writers and other staff deserve the abuse that posts like yours are delivering.

Maybe next time you want to do some research and know what you are talking about, scratch your head and use your brains before starting to type on a serious forum.

Sincerely,

Francois A. Dumas

... and the man's Blog

Francois,

I am sorry, we admins/mods can't oversee everything. We need reports, just like the one you did.

So, you explained the problem openly in the forums. I will also leave a room to discuss that. It's not forbidden, yet even encouraged to discuss which magazine is better - this is a forum.

Furthermore, it's up to the users to decide what to do next or not to do. This is not your decision.

I will however make this statement:

Any personal attacks are going to be dealt with swiftly. I see some pretty known guys here in the thread, and I'll let them slip with couple of warning points, but rest assured, if I see something like this again, it will not remain on warning points.

I just think that if you don't want the baggage from that title you should have started a new magazine with a new name.

it appears that new new owners took over Computer Pilot but without its obligations. In those circumstances it's not surprising there are disatisfied customer voicing their concerns.

whose responsibilty is it for things going wrong - it's obviously not the customers's fault?
