June 21, 201213 yr In another post today Bill A, who is updating his computer, let slip that his FS9 installation amounted to 128 gigs. Checking mine .... 230gig, 1.7 million files and 13,590 folders. Mainly payware I would add. Is it any wonder defragging is recommended? Apropos of nothing I thought it might me instructive to compare with the AVSIM community. What say you?

Holy gigabytes Batman! I have 179 GB of FS9 files on a dedicated D: hard drive - but another 26 GB on the C: drive for other, FS related programs like FSC etc. It's no wonder that I'm starting to get the occasional stutters. As for loading time, it's a bit like Waiting For Godot... (A little literary humor there for you high-brow types!)
June 21, 201213 yr 380GB for FS9 (and a proportionately long initial loading time!!) I'm afraid I never made it to the end of Waiting for Godot!! Bill
June 21, 201213 yr Often it is, a difference between arrive at a small or big airport.. :-) A straight in or a STAR, and we already talked about the last one indefinitly.

Quite literally - Godot never does arrive... An appropriate parable of the pretensions of avante garde theater and literature of the time....
June 22, 201213 yr Size matters Size is not always important :LMAO: Size matters  Not.... j/k My Fs9 game folder only about 53GB(plus about 20GB FSGlobal 2010). I only install the addons and the sceneries I needed and uninstall the ones that I don't use, to have a faster loading time. It doesn't really help and need when having sceneries all over the world, all kinds of aircraft but only fly US domestic routes  Hoang Le i7 13700k - Sapphire Nitro+ AMD RX 7900 XT - Asus TUF Z790 PLUS D4 - Gskill Trident 32GB DDR4-3600 LG 34GP63A-B Ultrawide - ASUS VG259QM MSFS2020
June 22, 201213 yr Author It doesn't really help and need when having sceneries all over the world, all kinds of aircraft but only fly US domestic routes Very sensible however I fly by mood ... one morning off to Japan, next to France then off to Alaska maybe. Hence my bloated instal. I used to run AddonManager however the author ceased supporting it. That proggie was great in that it enabled you to select aircraft from 'hangars' as required, also sceneries in similar fashion which cut down on the overhead quite substantially.
June 22, 201213 yr I only install the addons and the sceneries I needed and uninstall the ones that I don't use Theoretically a good idea, but let us remember it may bring some unpleasant surprises sometimes unless you are very careful while uninstalling. Some sceneries will not only add a custom folder (with Scenery and Texture subfolders) but will also replace other files, e.g. some bgl's in one of the default scenery folders. If there was an automatic backup and the uninstal brings the defaults back correctly - no problem, but I can say it not always is like that. Sometimes there will also be some residual mesh, landclass, afcad, exclude or traffic files left, which may mess up things. Just a thought added to the bunch of anyway valuable thoughts in this thread. I can't say how much I have installed now as I am left withouh my sim for some weeks. But once I stop resisting the uncontrollable need for collecting, it will reach tens of gigabytes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTW: Sk1nNy, do you have any avatar uploaded now? I can see only a strange clickable rectangle, which gives a very strange effect while visible on the main FS9 forum page. Your avatar inside a thread, as I can see it: Your avatar in the topics list, as I can see it:
June 22, 201213 yr Size is not always important :LMAO: That always depends on the five "W's"; who, what, when, where, and why. 56.4Gig. Regards to all, Mel

Thanks for that Rafal === Thanks ! June 22, 201213 yr It's so easy to let it bloat, isn't it? My main sim is at 228 GB, with another 100 GB in zipfiles. I sometimes use FS Scenery Manager to unload some sceneries and so speed up load times. But, my pride and joy is a fully-blown but bare essentials FS9.5 install with all the tweaks and textures; that goes *pop* when you start it, and it's there. Runs smooth as silk, too. A nice reminder of how well FS2004 performs.
