July 4, 201213 yr Check out this video of Brazilian Air Force pilots in their French-built Mirage 2000 fighter jets shattering practically every window in the Supremo Tribunal Federal in Brasilia during their flypast. If that isn't incompetent, what is? Surely they'd have known that soundwaves from such a high-speed pass would/could do that. http://video.dailytelegraph.com.au/2252550433/Pilots-shatter-Supreme-Courts-windows-in-fly-by Matthew Bellette
July 4, 201213 yr I doubt the pilots have checked out the building before they flew over. From what I understood it was a ceremonial opening of a new governmental building and I'm guessing the pilots only got instructions to fly over.
July 4, 201213 yr Brings a whole new meaning to having 64 bit windows :LMAO: Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
July 4, 201213 yr Author I don't entirely blame the pilots for following instructions. However, surely an experienced pilot would question the wisdom of a high-speed flypast over buildings at low altitude. It sounded like the jets were supersonic. Here in Australia, the RAAF has altitude and speed restrictions when conducting flypasts over built-up areas such as cities for this exact reason. Matthew Bellette
July 4, 201213 yr So if your boss tells you to drive from Sydney to Melbourne, you check out the road first?
July 4, 201213 yr Very simplistic, but i know the RAAF has paid money in the past for damage to property and livestock by flying low and fast over known populated areas. It happens, move on. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
July 4, 201213 yr Or even the US Airforce hitting a Ski Lift cable in Italy, killing 20! I wonder what's worse... some broken windows or 20 dead people. http://www.nytimes.com/1998/02/04/world/20-die-in-italy-as-us-jet-cuts-a-ski-lift-cable.html?pagewanted=all&src=pm
July 4, 201213 yr Author I think the nasty tone from some replies is unnecessary. I wasn't intending for this topic to head that way. Matthew Bellette
July 4, 201213 yr I thought blaming the pilots was a little short sighted (in my opinion). In fact, in your topic title you are calling the pilots "stupid". I think that's just wrong. But when people express their opinion in your topic they are being "nasty"?
July 4, 201213 yr I think the nasty tone from some replies is unnecessary. I wasn't intending for this topic to head that way. I wouldn't worry about it mate....Hundreds of people read these threads, few respond, always going to be negative ones because on the Internet everyone seems to be a critic. I had a laugh seeing it but yes these things happen. Not the first or the last. Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Personally I'd say that creating three sonic booms in a row over a built-up area shows stupidity at some level, if only in a failure to outlaw it. Also, people do get killed by falling glass, so it isn't a trivial matter.

Maybe you could have avoided the word "stupidity" in your tittle, especially when it is associated with a nationality. And since your avatar mentions "staff" and "reporter", some (most?) readers expect you to separate facts from comments or opinions. My suggestion (if I may) : stick to the facts and let the readers draw their own conclusion. Hope this helps, Bruno PS (edit) : By the way, what makes you think they were "supersonic" during this pass - as you mention in your second post ?
July 4, 201213 yr In fairness to them - In most countries pilots only fly on orders - So in the absence of facts, that they were ordered to perform this flypast at high speed at low altitude. Again without knowing any facts other than a video, its unfair to criticize anyone at-all. It could have been anyone from the pilots all the way up the chain of command through the military up to the gov't department that ordered the fly past in the first place. People are too quick to levy blame on people these days....... Hi Matthew. Maybe you could have avoided the word "stupidity" in your tittle, especially when it is associated with a nationality.
