Fellows, I've found that the "Bands" works great for me on the 52 Pro. Tried FSUIPC and am more satisfied the way it works now. I have so many of my "52" buttons programmed for - speech recognition, ECZA camera, Trim, well - at least now I have them commited to memory, but it's a "full-house" and makes life a lot easier. "Me" just thought, well, I have a throttle unit, and theres where the reverse thrust should go. Again, we ALL have our methods that work for us.....this one works fine for me.

As an additional note, guys - the purchased version of FSUIPC has the ability to configure any number of engines to have reverse thrust, as well as to synchronize them to compensate for non-linear potentiometers, and including compensation for mechanical differences. I was amazed when I found this.

You can find when to use reverse thrust on the Arrival part of the airport briefing in the charts of in airport. In the most cases, you are asked not to use reverse thrust or only idle reverse thrust, so if the runway is long enough for your landing, you should not use reverse thrust because of the noise.

 

Where does it say that? I've never noticed it.

I've been on NGs where WestJet pilots didn't use reverse thrust. The spoilers popped up briefly to ensure there was weight on the wheels, then retracted and we coasted down the 10,000 foot long runway at YEG. Got on the brakes near the terminal end of the building.

I use Saitek yoke + TQ. I set it up in FSUIPC to press F2 repeatedly when in full down position, and press F1 once when leaving it. Works OK, but I have to use keyboard for idle reverse.

I've just found this information for East Midlands airoprt:

Reverse Thrust

Pilots are requested to avoid the use of reverse thrust or reverse pitch above idle power settings on landing, consistent with the safe operation of

the aircraft between the hours of 2200-0700 (Winter) and 2100-0600 (Summer).

 

SO does that mean if you were landing at 20:00 in summer you could use full reverse but if you were landing at 21:30 you could only use idle?

Generally yes. But it is most times not necessarry to use full reverse in day, and if necessary you can use full reverse in night.

On a note of reverse thrust, in which conditions do not use reverse? I've seen a jet2757 land at Madeira without revers or spoilers (you can find on youtube) so I was just wondering why an aircraft would do this.

 

That 757 was completely empty. Probably picking up tourists to get back home.

Second: if it's safety to do so, some SOP recommend to use idle reverse thrust.

Third: if you have to turn off somewhere in the end of the 10k-feet runway, you definetely not need full thrust.

 

 

 

This's strange. Maybe they have got problems with hydraulics.

Reverse thrust is deployed upon landing and usually stowed around 80 knots to prevent FOD from entering the N1 section. I have backed up C-130's by reversing the props while deployed in Vietnam. Also a great tool for taxing with ice on taxi or runway. Also a great brake saver.

FSUIPC will let you assign a whole axis(s) to Reverse Thrust.

 

I have a 6 axis CH TQ

 

My Left 2 are power levers and run from idle to full throttle.

My far Right 2 are reverse levers and though they work a little backwards, I really like it, and in practice it actually makes it far more realistic\

:

Full Aft Is reverse off, Push up to the detent, and you get idle Reverse, and you can advance the reverse from there.

 

This lets me deploy idle reverse by tactile feedback only, reverse thrust as needed, then ease off the reverse back to idle at 80 knots and stow the reversers at 60 again, just by feel.

 

For Trijets, I set it up 3 and 3

For Quads, I have 4 throttles and then a reverser for Inboards and Outboards.

 

 

Give it a shot.  You'll like it.
