My name is Jamal. i worked on the VC and a little bit of the exterior of the model. I had posted these settings on the coolsky forum for people suffering from screen flickering (or artifacting, same thing), but it "may" also help with blurry textures.

Here are MY settings and the links I derived the information from. Some of these settings may need to be added to your FSX.CFG.

OK now I've tried your internal FSX settings Sara, even including DX10. Didn't work. I've also tried the cfg changes from Jamal, to no effect.

 

What's so different about the textures here vs other sharp looking aircraft? I've got a wonderful looking DX9 driven FSX already, why won't this one work? Shouldn't every other addon also look blurry since this one does?

Hi 747-fan.

Okay, I dropped my resolution from 1920x1200 to 1280x1024 like in your setup, and i get the same thing unless I zoom in closer, in which case it looks like my shot again.

What you are seeing is mip maps.

As you zoom out to normal viewing, it halves the size of the texture.

 

I know the boss is looking at this, as the mip maps can be tweaked to a certain extent.

If we removed the mip mapping altogether you get what he calls the wandering spiders around detail areas, although at high resolution with anti-aliasing set higher it removes that.

 

It doesnt seem to effect higher resolutions (temporarily try 1600x1200 if you can) and you will see what I mean.

 

It's getting the balance right when the textures are saved.

Would you mind posting pics of the textures that are blurry? I think I may have a couple settings for you to try, ie. MipBias or changing the Image_Quality setting under Graphics.

I think what people are failing to realize is that the NGX and DC-9 are in whole new leagues. You are comparing an all glass cockpit to an all "steam" cockpit. Sitting at FlyTampa Tampa I am getting 25-30 fps in the vc. People also are not counting in the fact that it has been out only 12 days. I think the whole modeling is nice and the way it functions is nice. I get slightly blurry textures at 4096 but still readable to me. The aircraft has been for the most part hassle free. I am in the process of learning the flow of things and the whole VOR nav but am getting there. I personally like the sounds and think the modeling outside is great. The extra livery packs add to it in the grand scheme of things. I read on the support forums that there is a patch scheduled for withing the next couple of weeks. As a side note the extra color variations from Sara look really nice. I have never been a huge fan of the bluish colors.

Yep. On facebook it said it was a beta patch. They plan on getting out a full patch at sometime and adding that patch to the installer I will wait for that patch to purcahse.

I am surprised how little I can find out about the plane so far. Very few Youtube videos no mini reviews I could find etc..

FWIW, I think the issues I've been having were related to an older version of LINDA that I was using. I re-installed it, re-downloaded and re-installed the DC-9 and so far I haven't had the problem where FSX fails to properly initialize. The patch to fix the various annoyances like things that work in 2D but not 3D and vice versa would be nice.

I just bought the DC-9 and I have to say it's a very awesome product. The -90-30 is a very cool aircraft but any chances for the -9-50 too?

Nope, just two radios and if you really want it, a default GPS pop-up.

I've been reading through all the posts and threads but I'm not too clear on the current status of this model... Have the 'issues' that were plaguing some of the early adopters been resolved? In particular:

 

1) Has the frame rate performance inconsistency been resolved? (Did Coolsky issue any kind of fix for it?)

2) Has the 'blurry texture' in the cockpit issue been resolved? (Changing TML to 4096 seemed to help some, but not all users)

3) Installation and Start-up issues - even the AVSIM reviewer said it was a bear to install properly and do you still have to load a default aircraft before the DC-9?

4) Dome light? (Seems fairly minor to me, but got some people's back's up)

 

Finally, did the improved exterior textures that were to be made available for free ever materialize?
