October 3, 201213 yr Stephen, can you explain how all it works when flying online at IVAO/VATSIM? Im not sure how it is on VATSIM, but ON IVAO you are given the real weather by their server (which most probably is METAR based). Now, if you fly offline everything is clear - you get your weather either from Jeppesen (built in FSX feature) or by AS/REX/Opus. But when online, how the 3rd party weather engine does not collide with what's fed by the online network? I am thinking that such integration would require communication with their softdev teams but I can easily be wrong. It's bit misty but important to me and maybe all who fly (mostly) online. Thanks in advance and for all the information you've given so far. cheers
October 3, 201213 yr Disable the weather IVAO/VATSIM provides on the client (ivap/fsinn, etc) and use the weather exclusively from OPUS, or else you'll get a lot of flashing with 2 programs trying to feed fsx weather! Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
October 3, 201213 yr For those on the fence regarding Camera views, DHM etc, I found Opus to be so much realistic compared to EZCA, not only is it one less horrible DLL removed from the mix, but the DHM effects are outstanding. Hence, EZCA has been permanently removed from system, with an increase in performance in FSX. Another point I would like to mention, for quite some time I have been using Rex weather textures, ( not the horrible weather engine) and since changing to OPUS weather engine I have re instated FEX textures using Nick Needhams Natural Wonder theme with Pablo's HD sky textures. The Fex clouds have a fantastic smooth edges to them, and white tops to reflect the sun shining on them. outstanding. As FEX has been around a while, it mostly gets forgotten, but IMHO I believe REX textures are over rated. October 4, 201213 yr Disable the weather IVAO/VATSIM provides on the client (ivap/fsinn, etc) and use the weather exclusively from OPUS, or else you'll get a lot of flashing with 2 programs trying to feed fsx weather! Not sure it is a good idea to do that. If there are any differences between ivao/vatsim and opus current weathers, you end up with different weather from all other users. Also there are many events where their weather is a requirement. regards
October 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member You must only have a single source of weather being injected into FSX. If you allow any other engine or weather source to inject METAR data into FSX you will have ruined the Opus weather completely. The OpusFSX LWE loads all the weather for your surroundings, horizon to horizon, using the latest METARs downloaded from the NOAA. Regards Stephen
October 4, 201213 yr OPUS has a more realistic rendition of the weather then IVAO/Vatsim - real world real time metar updates. Isn't that the kind of depiction you want? Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
October 4, 201213 yr Commercial Member I've emailed IVAO/Vatsim about obtaining the weather from their servers but haven't had any replies yet. When we get some information from them we will add it as an option for the weather source. Regards Cheryl

Being proactive and supportive developer - you put so many extra information and support the community in many ways. This shows dedication to which I cannot respond otherwise but just buy your product no matter ivao/vatsim guys will answer that email or not. Thanks again!
October 5, 201213 yr I've downloaded and run the Flight1 install file and paid for the software via my flight1 account. When I install the software and run FSXSERVER it runs in demonstration mode. Have I done something incorrectly? October 5, 201213 yr I think you downloaded the wrong installation file? There are a few, read the instructions on the download page carefully. Also, when you've installed the demo version, then you have to uninstall it before installing the full version. Hans WolteringMy Airplane Photos on Flickr - My Website
October 5, 201213 yr Out of curiosity, how comes that REX E and ASE pick up the weather data from rusty and unreliable sources only ? Is it so difficult to grab data from reliable sources ? Thx
October 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member When I install the software and run FSXSERVER it runs in demonstration mode As trancesetter has mentioned you need to uninstall the demo first using Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. Do not delete your OpusFSX folder though since your config (DAT) and camera (CAM) files that you set up in the demo are stored there, assuming you want to keep them. Also did you install the paid version in a different location to the demo version? That could be a problem. You must unwrap the Flight1 purchase file on your C drive. You can move the msi to another location but must leave the other key and licence files on drive C. Regards Cheryl
October 5, 201213 yr Out of curiosity, how comes that REX E and ASE pick up the weather data from rusty and unreliable sources only ? Is it so difficult to grab data from reliable sources ? Thx Who says they do? Ok, RexE is only half a weather engine, better then the default, and better then REX was, but not, in my opinion, good enough to use. However, I have never had problems with the weather engines used by AS. Perhaps it is just the flights I do, but when ever I have checked (which is not that often), the weather diplayed has always been reasonably close to the nearest METARs. Paul Smith.

REXE E is supposed to retrieve weather data from the real weather stations across the globe but to be honest it often happens that it is heavily imprecise therefore it loads the " wrong " textures. I am wondering which weather stations Opus uses to try to understand if Opus has the magic power to be really a cute software or if is simply a new toy the average simmer ( maybe me included ) is keen to look at, even if the market is already plenty of weather software.
October 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member The other weather engines are inaccurate due to METAR morphing within FSX. OpusFSX IS really cute software!
