Need New weather?

Featured Replies

Yep, considering its the NGX forum I would appreciate if some AS users cam post comparison shots of NGX in action with both AS2012 and Opus. I spent money recently on REXE and was disappointed. Went back to the good ol' AS. Cautious now, I need more convincing than "it's the best weather engine ever"..

Thanks in advance!

Martin,

I use REX essentials and the textures are great (my opinion). But the weather generator lets dissapear all the weather and pop up the new weather. If it is a big change it effects the airplane.

After installing Opus with the textures of REX essentials I don't see any up-popping clouds. The weather is just around the airplane and as far as I can see. It changes without noticing.

It is great. (not to mention the easy way to set up of the camera views)

I think you should definitely give it a try.

Eric, thanks for the reply.

How about Opus on par with AS2012? That's what I'm using now. The weather appears to be quite close to the RL reported METAR with smooth transitions and well compiled high altitude "jet style" weather. Only the presentation in FSX is still a bit mediocre, with strange overcast textures, rain out of the blue sky and holes in the weather zones.

I have no doubt about your statements, Opus maybe is cool and well supported but to me the price is too high for another weather addon.

Just to have a real feedback, could anyone of you please post 2-3 screenshots where it is clear the difference between playing with or without Opus ? It would be interesting to see a double screen, left side without Opus and right side with.

This is intended to be a simple request of comparison screens, it's not a polemic question at all

Mark, why don't you try out the demo and see for yourself?

Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering

The demo doesn't allow real time weather updates.

What ?? Do you want to prohibit the screenshots in the world cause of the demos presence ?

REXE E is supposed to retrieve weather data from the real weather stations across the globe but to be honest it often happens that it is heavily imprecise therefore it loads the " wrong " textures. I am wondering which weather stations Opus uses to try to understand if Opus has the magic power to be really a cute software or if is simply a new toy the average simmer ( maybe me included ) is keen to look at, even if the market is already plenty of weather software.

The difference isn't so much the original source of METAR data. I think all of the major players in the add-on weather market (ASE, REX and now Opus) get their current METAR obs from the same source (primarily NOAA).

The big difference between Opus and the other

weather programs is in the way that the METAR data is actually injected into FSX. Opus generates the weather using the FSX "Dynamic Weather" engine.. and are the first developer to do it that way.

The method that all the other developers use, (and always have used), while perhaps easier to program, often results in innaccurate weather depictions, flickering graphics, clouds that pop in and out etc.

Did my first flight with Opus last night. Rain departing AMS and while on the SID a thunderstorm on my right side. Cruising over Germany a front moving in on my left, descending into Greece through some rain but clear at the destination like it was supposed to be.

I have kept EZDOK for Trackir and cameras for now. But I love the weather. Especially with REX textures.

Cheers

Thank you, your answer is clear.

I might give the demo a try.

No, trying the weather engine demo yourself will give you a much better idea than static screenshots with addon textures, effects such as Shade or ENB you perhaps do not possess.

I think you really need to chill
