Why Ai traffic Why?

A3 610,

You can create, save, and load an FSX configuration that is appropriate for what you're trying to achieve. For example, for higher AI, reduce any other form of traffic (auto, boats, etc.) and possibly scenery density, and/or clouds, and save that configuration. If you're low flying near or over water and want to see more boat traffic, configure your FSX for more boat traffic, etc., and save it. Hope you get the picture.

Maybe we should be talking about the need for FSX native AI models. I use UT2 with WOAI repaints. I wouldn't have half my traffic updated or present without WOAI. That being said, I can't run with aircraft shadows on. That also makes me wonder if I'm losing efficiency because of their FS9 or earlier format?

Perhaps we as a community should consider putting a new effort on making or converting older ai models? FSX still has quite a few more years left and P3d uses the same model formatting as FSX. This could make ai easier for FSX to process and therefore render a better experience at high traffic levels at a demanding airport with weather. I know there are a few groups who have started putting out new ai models over the past year or so. I'm suggesting that we continue to support that growth find ways to make traffic for FSX that is more computer efficient. I believe that would ultimately help the topic starter and anyone else in a similar situation. (not trying to steal your topic but to present an alternative answer)

Agree, we always have to give and take in FSX, there is no way to have all the bells and whistles on without turning FSX into a slide show no matter how great systems we have ^_^

From MyTraffic2013 ad

"More than 140 aircraft models were newly designed for FSX with in a never before seen detail for AI-planes and with a minimal impact on the PC resources. "

They claim to have native FSX models but still I can't achive 100% AI but I dont see the need for it either because with over 40% It's gets too busy for me. Had TrafficX before I bought MyTraffic and I got some performance boost.

But I just don't see some volunteers can achive something that Payware 3Party companys can't, they have money and resources and always trying to get the best performance but I think this is just a limitation of FSX that will never get solved. Maybe Prepar3D v2.0 with better hardware support and directx11 will be the answer for the future, but remains too be seen. Until then I can live with FSX's limitations, and still think It's a great sim that still has some years to live.

I can run with 100% AI but seldem do. Like many have posted who wants to wait 20min behind a dozen aircraft that are going to end up dissapearing anyway. When flying I just want to see movement, I want to see that the airport is alive. The issue for me is, unfortunately the way the AI system is designed, if you set you AI at say 30% and a real gool looking aircraft/paint is set at 40%, you will never see that aircraft. Too bad there isn't some way to shuffle flightplans around before a flight but that could cause considerable wait time.

Now, if I am plane spotting I then sometimes run 100%. That's when I can sit back and enjoy the many paints developers/simmers create. I'll grab my virtual camera (actually a program called CaptureWiz), and start snapping away.

Usually use WOIA but have a huge GA traffic setup as well or I may run some custom AI traffic I have set up for certain eras: might throw in a 1980's traffic bgl when I am at good ol' Kai Tak. Things like that.

Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

I can run with 100% AI but seldem do

Sure I can too but then I have too tune something else down. What settings do you use autogen, scenery details car/boat traffic, water settings how much antializing, and in what scenery. And what airports and what plane? In bad weather?. Don't tell me that you have everything maxed running REX in bad weather with PMDG in New York with Manhatten X and 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling etc etc etc uber smooth.

If so I would pay 10 000 Dollar for your computer and please sell it too me right away  .

I see that you have a high overclock and I consider an upgrade myself but Im not expecting to much other than that I can have some settings a bit higher than I have now. I do not think a computer running all FSX settings on full exist. Hoping to raise the autogen sliders one step higher than I run now, currently set at dense. And maybe raise that traffic bar fom 30% to 40% and add some more road traffic(currently only on 7%), tick some more options on at the Orbx aiports. that for my allround settings

Offcouse I have some custom settings for special areas where I raise autogen detail and boat/car traffic but useally in areas where FSX performs good, In example Orbx New Zealand I can have higher settings and even Traffic at 60-70% even 100%(Because MyTraffic2013 doesn't produce much traffic in the area)

btw a bit offtopic: I see that you have buttkicker, how does that work in FSX do you feel the turbulence? I a little curious about that sounds intresting, always looking for things that can add to the immersion ^_^

"If so I would pay 10 000 Dollar for your computer and please sell it too me right away"

That would be a bargain as I am sure I have put in over $15,000 to date (and counting!). And no, I would never say I run everything at max. I know many do but they somehow forget to put weather at max distance, four layers of clouds, or ground and AI traffic at max. IF your gonna say max to me that means everything at max. Just sayin'

There's always compromise depending on where I fly - am I at KORD in a snowstorm or off to the wilds of Alaska? That dictates where I put my settings. Usually, I have autogen at Dense, traffic AI at 40%, ground road traffic at 30%, Water one notch down from max . Weather at 90 miles but usually only one layer (haven't set up AS2012 or REX).

I fly with mostly photoreal scenery (example just picked up USCitiesX Las Vegas and Los Angeles, usually fly with FSDT, FlyTampa, Orbx, Aerosoft types or high-end freeware airports like Flyhalf, Shez.

For me, the secret to good performance is following my three "mantras":

1. Get has high as an OC to 5ghz. as you can muster.

2. Your system is only as good as it's weakest link.

3. Drop FSX and move up to P3D.

That has been a winning combination for me.

Oh, regarding Buttkicker, I have three of them - one for the seat, one for the pedals and one for the Yoke/quad. It does not so much pick up turbulence unless there is a sound associated with it as it is converting sound into motion. But runway bumps, engine hum, landing gear are incredible. It really the smaller little noises that translate into immersion. Also combine that with Accu-feel which I think can represent turbulence. If it does then I would also pick up that in Buttkicker.

Now I can agree with you, just missunderstood you a bit sorry ^_^ . It's always give and take with FSX, depending on where you fly and such even for people with specs like yours.

When I said 10 000 it was a joke and I ment only for the CPU and GPU and motherboard + ram not the rest of the setup you have(I would never paid that much just to get your MOBO, CPU, RAM+GPUs). If I'm upgarding to your specs it would cost me around 1800$.(new motherboard,CPU, RAM, And I only need one GPU would go for GTX680)

3. Drop FSX and move up to P3D.

Have P3D as an experiment on the side on another drive. But havent noticed much performance boost, in Seattle with Orbx for example i get worse performance than in FSX, maybe I tweaked it wrong, don't know.

Hmm, sounds cool maybe I might buy that stuff :P

My, my, my. The "naysayers" are out in force. The fact that some of you don't believe that FSX can run fairly well with large amounts of AI does not mean it won't.

First, I don't use any photo scenery - my preference. Second, I don't use any FSX-native AI aircraft including GA. Third, I don't use any 32-bit aircraft textures.

My fsx config file is tuned by *******. If you haven't done so, submit your config file for tweaking.

My fsx setting are in fact set to max. I keep medium settings for boats and ground vehicles.

I use a resolution of 3840x1024x32 - Matrox TripleHead2Go settings.

I don't use GA aircraft or flight plans as a general rule. Everything in my AI environment is commercial traffic. To give you an idea of just how many different AI models I use, here is the AI path section in my fsx.cfg file.

I remotely store all of my aircraft light maps in the main FSX Texture folder.

Do I get 50fps on my system as configured - NO. Do I get smooth operation with occasional hitches - YES. Do I care what the fps result is - NO. If you chase fps then you're wasting your time. Me, I'd rather fly.

If you use MyTraffic 2013 or MyTraffic 5.4a, your settings for AI should be no more than 50% for airliners. This comes from the mouth of the developer himself. Anything more than that is just adding more "eye candy" and not what he intended to be "realistic" AI settings

I have MyTraffic 5.4a Professional and have the seetings at 55% airliners and 35% GA traffic and that is plenty of traffic for me.

Here is the link to that thread from the support forum for MyTraffic http://forum.simflight.com/topic/71618-where-should-the-ai-traffic-sliders-be-for-a-realistic-ai-world/

Do you use default scenery if so i might beleive you, seroulsy doubt that you use any high quality 3party scenery with those settings at a busy payware airport i.e New York and things run smooth, and what aircraft do you use, what weather?

My fsx config file is tuned by *******

I guess you have higher contacts with the man upstairs than i have

No I dont chase FPS, infact don't even take notes of it, but what I notice is that high settings can turn fsx into a f..... slideshow.

But I guess your Uber liquid cooled unclocked 12 Core system runs things great ^_^

Actually they say around 30% for realistic traffic with my Traffic2013 and that's what I use, that means I can have other settings higher i.e autogen and water..etc And Im happy with that amount of traffic.

But if I fly in New Zealand I set them to around 60% to get more traffic because there isn't much going on at 30% and New Zealand is great in area in FSX performance wise not to many big cities with much autogen houses that tends too drag it down.

But to the topic starter: Just clock that i5-2500k, doesnt hurt. You will get more performance, and can have your slider settings higher. Isnt that the point in buying a clockable processor. Even if you cant get that 30+fps with 100% AI and still have good looking scenery you can atleast get some more traffic that you have now

Regarding scenery packages - I hardly ever use default scenery.

Frank

Ok Frank

If you can fly with 100% AI all over the world with those settings and car traffic and boats on 50% with bad weather landing at busy aiports, good for you. Won't argue with you no more on this matter getting tired of it. With that being said Im setting an end and I pulling myself out of this discussion.

cheers

"smooth fps with occasional hitches" is an oxymoron. Either it's smooth or it isn't. As long as you enjoy your sim that's all that counts but let's all be straight with each other...
