October 20, 201213 yr As you have read by now, we have stopped support for IE8 and earlier IE browsers. Here are some statistics about users and browser types on AVSIM. These figures are for the last 30 days and up to about 30 minutes ago. First, the entire compliment of browswers that are used to access AVSIM: Now, we look at the breakdown of versions of Internet Explorer: So, the top three, IE, FireFox and Chrome constitute 60% of the browsers used on AVSIM and each has roughly a 30% share. Now, if you look at only the IE composition, you see that of the roughly 967 thousand visits over the last thirty days, approximately 91 thousand visits were done with IE version 8 and lower. That says that roughly 9.4% or less of visits made to the AVSIM forums are by IE8 or lower version visits. Don't get me wrong. I am not diminshing IE8 member's presence or importance to us. What I am saying is that for better than 90% of our community, we cannot afford, nor do we want to, hold back on functionality and features provided by AVSIM.
October 20, 201213 yr Greetings to the IE5 and 6 users! :Peace: PS: I don't know the reasons behind that status (company installation?) but I'm seriously to see those version numbers. Sorta like the Stone Age in Internet terms, huh? Security is not an issue, there was none. With Firefox, one leaves the PC alone for two hours and, on returning, four new versions have emerged. Well, feels like. Don't ask me about the actual changes though. Interesting statics, Tom.
October 20, 201213 yr I'm stunned because people DO use IE CASE: Fractal Terra Silver CPU: AMD R5 7800X3D 5.0Ghz RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 GPU: nVidia RTX 4070 Ti SUPER · SSDs: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB M.2 PCIe · PNY XLR8 CS3040 2TB M.2 PCIe · VIDEO: LG-32GK650F QHD 32" 144Hz FREE/G-SYNC · MISC: Thrustmaster TCA Airbus Joystick + Throttle Quadrant · MSFS2024 · Windows 11
October 20, 201213 yr I guess it also shows that the browser selection screen (or lack of) does make sense. I think people otherwise just use what's there and installed, which is IE (should be #9 through Win-update though). Microsoft and the EU, a long story. ^_^ Interesting statics, Tom. Erm, statistics. My bad.
October 20, 201213 yr I didn't know that you were not suppose to uninstall IE when you got a new computer....lol William Sequeira
October 20, 201213 yr <-----Chrome guy here B) Surprised 30% are still on IE, That thing is heavy like a boat anchor, always dragging the PC down. :LMAO: Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
October 20, 201213 yr I'm on Chrome and am honestly surprised by the number of people still on IE, each to their own I suppose, but if you're still on it then I would recommend changing, much easier User Interfaces to be had out there... My €0.02 Regards, Ró. Rónán O Cadhain.
October 20, 201213 yr On Chrome here too. Actually I'm shocked at the very low mobile browser stats, so low. ESP safari. Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556
October 20, 201213 yr I can't believe people still use Internet Explorer 5.5. What is that, Windows 2000? 98? I use Chrome as well. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
October 20, 201213 yr Author On Chrome here too. Actually I'm shocked at the very low mobile browser stats, so low. ESP safari. And... That causes me to question the amount of energy we put into having a mobile solution to access and the number of problems it causes us.
October 22, 201213 yr PS: I don't know the reasons behind that status (company installation?) Yup. Security testing takes so long that most big companies lag behind the rest of the world by several years. It's only in the last 6 months I've had my PC upgraded to Win7... We're not permitted to install any of our own applications, for obvious reasons, so I'm likely to be stuck with IE8 for a few years yet... Better than my home PC though: that has no permanent connection at all to the outside world (porting on a USB stick only). I have to post letters. Maybe it's time I left BC for AD? Cheers, D
October 22, 201213 yr I wouldn't be surprised if a significant number of IE users, especially with older versions, are logging in from their work. John-Alan Pascoe
October 22, 201213 yr Good points on the company regulations. I wonder if the company restricted users are able to use the portable versions of popular browsers. They just from within a folder, no installation and things needed. Just google Firefox portable for example. Maybe it's time I left BC for AD?
October 22, 201213 yr I would like to be able to browse on AVSIM using an Atari 2600 and a modified CVC Gameline Cartridge Please Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
