November 5, 201213 yr I waited four hours and 15 minutes on Saturday afternoon for gas. The police told us there was no guarantee the truck was coming -- it had not come at midnight or at 11 a.m.. When I got in line at 2 p.m. they were estimating 4 pm. Then at 3:30 p.m. we were told the truck was in Philadelphia waiting to load up. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
November 5, 201213 yr Seems like Haiti faces the outcome of Sandy with an even less developed infrastructure. :( Good luck to them too.
November 6, 201213 yr Author Well it seems the much spoken of generators sat where they were, doing no good to anyone, and the hundreds of millions of dollars that might have gone to the city via the marathon (and been conceivably used for those in need) was lessened or lost as well. The city explains in more detail, countering the original contention that use of the generators for the purposes of the marathon would have represented a major misallocation of resources that could have been used by people suffering in the aftermath of the storm. Note that the press has gone silent for the moment on this issue and moved on. Meanwhile, here is the statement from the city. New York Road Runners rented a number of generators for the marathon. They rented them from several independent vendors around the New York City area - neither the City nor the NYRR owns the generators. When the event was canceled, those vendors determined where to send them, and filled some orders in places outside of New York City - for instance, New Jersey. The City reached out to all vendors but many were unable to fulfill our requests due to lack of large generators, lack of trucks and lack of personnel. However, please note that many of the generators being used for marathon events are not the types of generators most in need for hard-hit areas in New York City - their power output does not match the levels we are looking for. November 6, 201213 yr About to push hour 177 now....I give up. This isn't getting anywhere.... Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
November 6, 201213 yr I wanted to ask last night... Dang you poor guy... the number w/o power is going down Kevin, but it is still significant (around 2 million yesterday).
November 6, 201213 yr Kevin, I would drive my generator and spare gas down to you, I got power back last night but I have a very bad feeling they are going to pro-actively shut down my area for the next storm tomorrow starting tonight. They are already issuing Mandatory evacuation orders and I am about to start tarping my roof where it is damaged, RE-sandbagging the house and RE-Sealing the windows... Otherwise I would offer for you to come here. So I think I will be back on Generator through the next storm or I would bring it down!! Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
November 6, 201213 yr Eh, wouldn't make much of a difference, as school started up again yesterday, so for most of the day, I'm not home, and when I am home, all I do is shower, eat, and sleep. Thanks for the offer, though. Pushing 180 hours now. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
November 7, 201213 yr Wonder if Kevin or Solk got power back. Things a real mess again with this nor'easter. The Weather Channel has named it "Athena". http://www.weather.com/news/weather-winter/noreaster-post-sandy-20121105 Winter Storm Athena? National Weather Service tells its forecasters not to use The Weather Channel's name for storm (Chicago Tribune)
November 7, 201213 yr Wonder if Kevin or Solk got power back. I wasn't home, as I departed at 4:18 AM for school, but I was told that we got power back at 5:27 AM. I haven't gone home yet, as I'm still at school, so I haven't been able to confirm this yet. If so, that would be 200 hours without power. With the snowstorm here, I guess the next question is will power still be there when I head back in exactly over three hours. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
November 8, 201213 yr The snow and wind look pretty bad from eaton town on up to edge water. Hope the power companies can work through it. Mandatory evacuations in the Brick Nj area. Sigh... "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
November 8, 201213 yr It would appear as though power is back on my end. That was 200 hours without power. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
