October 31, 201213 yr Author Relocated, and warming my feet by a nice cozy fire for a bit. At least there is Internet, here. LoL News says more than a hundred houses burned down in a huge fire in queens. What a mess! We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... October 31, 201213 yr Good to hear and you're not wrong. I've seen footage of flooded tunnels in NY, I wonder if the subway has been totally submerged? They'll get extra tourists, queuing to take a whiff of 'the smell of the century' in a few weeks. Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556
October 31, 201213 yr Hi Rob.. Yeah... hate to say I almost gave that statement (Matthew's) a -_- because this is one big, brutal storm. Sandy Kicking Up 20-Foot Waves On Lake Michigan near record waves... I was in the hurricane that killed some 12000 in Mexico/Central America in 60/61. The storm had crossed into the Pacific - I was at sea - and one particular image I can recall is standing on the ships bridge - some 40' above the water - and looking UP at the crest of the next wave. Some scary moment that was. I was 19 at the time , and I was ok until I noticed that even the old seadogs aboard were looking concerned....we had left the Panama Canal a few days before, and we were heading North, with some 800 cars aboard for Long Beach. I sincerely hope that you all suffer only inconvenience, and nothing more. Best of luck to you. It just rains here. All day. All week. All year..No summer this year... Regards Bill i7-3770K 4.2GHz, 16GB, GTX 970 4GB, Win 7 64bit, LG 38GL950G, CH Yoke/Pedals, T.16000M, GenX UK, UK2000 EGGP & EGCC, AeroSoft Gibraltar, FSC 9.5, FSL A320X, 737NGX A318/A319/A320/A321, A2A Cherokee/JF Hawk T1/Dino's EF2000, Iris Grob Tutor

Some scary moment that was. Yeah, Hurricanes at sea are real scary. I've been through 2 in the 80's. Both off of Mexico in the Pacific. One was on the Pacific Princess, (The one that was on the TV Show "The Love Boat") That wasn't too bad as the Captain took the ship around the worst of it, causing us to miss a Port of Call. The ship did rescue a woman who's Husband took the family out on a sail boat during the storm, (Not very smart) Sadly the Husband and their kid didn't make it. The second storm was much worse on the Carnival Tropicale. On this one the captain took the ship right in the brunt of the storm through 125mph winds, and very high waves. Everyone was sick. Another ship behind us the SS Rhapsody, which was the old Holland America SS Statendam was in trouble and it's passengers spent the night with their life jackets on. Our ship left them and as a result we made it into port only 1 hour late, where the Rhapsody was 8 hours late. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
October 31, 201213 yr I sincerely hope that you all suffer only inconvenience, and nothing more. Best of luck to you. Hi Bill, Yeah.... I was merely providing info how far this storm stretched out. And power outages are more than an inconvenience when it involves the sick, the very young and the elderly. Well - going thru life can provide one with "interesting" experiences. Living in Indiana means dealing with tornadoes. Hurricanes while I was in Hawaii. And having done one tour with the U.S. Marines spending about 1 1/2 years at sea... I have my fair share of stories. Just as probably most folk here that have passed out of their 'er years (younger, dumber, thinner) and/or spent time in the military... could relate similar experiences. Again... this was merely about Sandy... this 1000mile monster... I find it fascinating that a storm can affect such a large area and so many people. Here on the periphery what is happening I find interesting - that's all. Heartbreaking tho what has happened in places like Jersey and NYC. -Rob
October 31, 201213 yr Hey everyone, I am ok, still here. No power for a few days now and saying 7-10 days without power minimum. The sea wall was breached, and the ocean ended up 2 blocks past my house, I lost part of my roof, my town was declared a disaster area and emergency zone. Boardwalks are gone, trees down everywhere, power lines down but all in all it could have been much worse. I have been recharging my phone from my truck for the past few days and not sure when i will be able to get out but most importantly I am fine! I cant give all the details now as I really have to save battery but this was like nothing I have ever seen. Entire parts of the shore are gone... I just wanted to let everyone know I was ok! Paul in Long Branch NJ... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

Paul in Long Branch NJ... Wow. Sounds like a disaster movie in NJ but as you note, it could have been worse. Power power and power seem to be the major need, as few of us are really prepared to go caveman and forage for Berries. Getting the stores back open, providing for shelter for those with no heat or water... It's all a tremendous task in a modern society when so many of the basic supports are left flailing. Take care man. Stay safe. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. October 31, 201213 yr Hopefully you guys get cleaned up soon. Crazy to see the amount of flooding along the coast and in New York tunnels. I wonder how long it will take to pump out the Brooklyn tunnels. that looks like a mammoth task. News is saying 50 casualties, if you consider this storm hit an area with between 50 to 100 million people that seems quite low, so good to see people preparing for this one. October 31, 201213 yr Theatrical plot. Gentlemen, it was an honour writing with you. -_- I flew at Vatsim Japan after their Fukushima incident. Best 'world comes together' episode of my sim flying career. It's sad of human nature but sometimes it takes the worst to bring out the best. jime James D. Edwards
October 31, 201213 yr I sincerely hope that you all suffer only inconvenience, and nothing more. Best of luck to you. Yeah, I have to remember that. On Tuesday, after most of the storm passed us in Massachusetts, I remarked to a co-worker that the worst thing I had to do was go downstairs and manually start the coffee, as there had been a brief power dip during the night and the digital clocks were all blinking. Later that day, our power went out and it's not back yet. It's relatively warm, though, so the worst problem we're looking at now is a prolonged shutdown and all the stuff in the freezer thawing out.
October 31, 201213 yr Power's now been out for 43 hours and counting. I'm presently at a location that still has power. Last night, my best friend and I went to a rest area off the New Jersey Turnpike just to recharge my computer along with my phone and her phone. Lost water twice, not really sure if we still have water back home. People are also having a hard time trying to find fuel, as most fueling stations are out of fuel. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
October 31, 201213 yr This doesn't sound good at all. What an impact! Well, the positive sign is that you folks are still on the Net, reporting. Good luck to you and all the brave folks trying to help and coordinate things.
October 31, 201213 yr I got power back, 48 hours later. I'm hoping it is going to stay on as I saw loads of trees lieing on power lines. 10700k / Gigabyte 3060
October 31, 201213 yr The craziest thing I have seen so far is that there are lines for miles for people getting gas. Another thing that has occurred is that ANY place that is open and selling food is getting attacked by droves of hungry folks. Or people who have had food spoiled. I've been part of a team coordinating the closing of FDX locations in NJ (for safety purposes and for power issues) and its really sad some of the stories you hear from employees and customers alike. Some extra tidbits: the show Jersey Shore was filmed in Seaside Heights. That area was devastated. There are pictures of a roller coaster in the ocean. It came from that town. Atlantic city lost a portion of its famous boardwalk. EWR just reopened at 0700L. You are not allowed into NYC unless you have three in the car. The George Washington bridge being the exception. I'm hearing there are no traffic lights below 42nd street (with Madison square garden being at 34st). Ground zero had significant amounts of water and on and on. Oh and NJ officially pushed back Halloween... "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
October 31, 201213 yr Good update Cory. I lost sleep last night here in Oz, listening to one of your local NPR radio stations, heard the Governor doing an update, the list went on and on, incredible. The 3 or more in a car is a good idea, ESP with all the traffic lights on and tunnels flooded. You guys will pull thru and price to the world why NYC and surrounds is so famous.
