I'm in the middle of it.

Winds are pretty scary. In the northern part of NJ we're more or less holding up. I have some folks in the south central portion of NJ with no power. ACY is flooded from what I heard.

The one aspect of this that could of and should have been prevented, are all the fires being caused by transformers. Down here in Florida, when there is a hurricane, power is intentionally shut off to prevent damage to the system. Usually undamaged sections comes back online within a day or 2 after the winds diminished, Damage to the mains are repaired first, which usually is relatively quick. If you are off the mains with overhead wires that are damaged it could take much longer. Where I am I'm lucky my power comes from underground lines, connected to the mains, so when I went through Hurricane Charlie and Jeanne, while we lost power early we got it back within a day. The other streets in my neighborhood all have overheads and the ones that were damaged took up to 3 weeks to repair. Overall the system remained in tact, and it would have caused more damage, had they left the power on during the storm. The entire area though had no fires due to electrical transformer damages. Certainly nothing like is being seen in this storm.

Thanks

Winds 25-40 and a very cold rain here in Detroit. Winds expected to pick up overnight.

Your are 500 miles from the coast mate, you get bigger summer thunder storms compared to the remainders of a tropical storm. Even Hurricane Hazel missed Detroit. The only Hurricanes in Detroit is a football team...I would be more worried about winter mate

Att Cell tower has collapsed, no service so i am writing this from several miles over. All local power down except some malls, estimated time of power returning residentially is up to 4 weeks. Crews are apparently only assessing residential areas, no actual work occurring, so many people are abandoning the area for hotels that may have power or wherever.

Since surrounding states were hit even harder, there is not much choice.

Hang in there Devon. Hopefully you can stay, pretend its like going back in time, before electricity. I'm just up in Oz, starting to catch up with the devastation left. Your country's strong, you'll recover quick.

I hope all of you and your loved ones in the path of the storm weren't inconvenienced too badly, and I really hope that none of you (or your loved ones) suffered any bodily injuries. Material goods can be replaced; lives cannot.

Man... NY's subway system underwater? I wonder how much damage the salt water will do!

FWIW... it's 68° here right now, mild with a few light clouds; another Indian Summer day in Colorado.

Wow, we're getting the pictures over here on our evening news as we speak. This thing looks really bad, flooded car parks, trees down, power lost to god knows how many people. I was in Boston on Sunday evening at the start of it, but boy am I glad not to be over there at the moment. We have 3 crews stuck in NY at the moment and the latest word is that JFK won't be open until tomorrow at the earliest. The chaos these things cause is jaw dropping, I've heard that it could take over a week to get electricity back to parts...

Best of look to all those being hit by the storm and the following recovery.

It's a good thing this didn't happen a couple of months ago, when temperatures up North were near 100 and the water temps much warmer, or you guys could have been dealing with a cat 4 or 5 storm, no less a cat 1!

Thanks

Much wind and many power outages today. Many school closings, including my own, after students arrived. No, this was nothing like a summer storm that is here and gone in hour. Thanks for nothing though.

Yeah... hate to say I almost gave that statement (Matthew's) a -_- because this is one big, brutal storm.

Sandy Kicking Up 20-Foot Waves On Lake Michigan near record waves...

I half expected power to go out (still do) and we have had scattered power outages in the area... and we 300mi or so SW of Detroit.
