November 1, 201213 yr Author I don't know how they have managed to make it worse than the old one. That in itself takes skill Good one..I just showed this to my teacher that used to fly for AA..I thought he's gonna throw my laptop out the door! :-O..but yeah, I'm not a fan of it either..it reminds me of AeroMexico or Aeroflot..not a fan..they should at least stay with the Chrome Polished Finish..I hope this is not the final paint... Just an FYI, I don't know if this has been confirmed...I am hoping it's not. But I guess will have to wait and see huh? Janusz Wozniak
November 1, 201213 yr Commercial Member Unless it's confirmed somehow officially, I can't say I'd accept it as going to happen, but I don't find it that bad, actually. Whenever something changes in the aviation community, there's almost always a huge backlash because those attracted to the field tend to be very resistant to change (psychologically). Five years later, when they're about to change the livery again, those who hated the livery will then fight against the new one, saying the one they once hated is the one they love endlessly, and don't want it to change. UAL is a good example: When they changed from the "Stealth" livery (the grey one) to the shades of blue, a lot of the workers got upset that they dropped the red/orange/blue stripes, because that was very much part of the image they were used to. The livery immediately prior to it was the same, but with larger stripes and a white background. But, looking farther back, you'll see that the red/orange/blue was definitely not part of the corporate image, when looking at the corporate roots. Prior to the red/orange/blue, it was red/white/blue. The moral? Nothing other than a resistance to change. The only thing in life that is constant is change itself. they should at least stay with the Chrome Polished Finish They can't. The Airbuses can't get a chromed finish. Their A300s were different from the rest of the fleet because of this, back in the day (some still had the chrome finish, but with spots of grey because of the parts used). The 787s won't be able to do it at all, I believe, because of the composite structure. Kyle Rodgers
November 1, 201213 yr In my opinion, I think it's about time that AA changes their livery. It was just getting old. Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
November 1, 201213 yr The original Livery was so iconic, then the blue and red stripe became even more of an icon in the 20th, 21st Century. I'm not sure how much of an icon this one will be, but it does seem like a really cool modernized livery, I love it personally. The extension of the blue and red from the tail on to the fuselage is lending itself to an iconic symbol. The AMERICAN positioned in pure eyesight is also an iconic symbol, well that's my opinion at least. I also really favor the alternating colours of red and white below the tail, on the fuselage. I am really glad they keep the Eagle. But then again, this may not even be the real one for all we know, but I surely can't think of anything that would be better than this. I am not sure however if I will get the same feeling I always get on a sky link, or terminal trains, when the top of AAs jets shine and immediately catch your attention. Seeing them all lined up, and lined off is just something to behold, I hope this livery carries the legacy forward.
November 1, 201213 yr No, i dont think this is the new livery 1. it hasnt been confirmed 2. its been on google images since AA announced an order for a few 77W's i COULD BE WRONG, buuutt.... -ANDY GREENFlight Diary Account : http://flightdiary.net/SpeedBird7735 Hours experience in Grob 115, 30 minutes in Grob 102 10 Hours in Grob 109 PLUS SOLO! 23rd November 2013!
November 1, 201213 yr Yeah, this image has been circulating online for quite some time and I don't believe it's confirmed. As a livery though, I don't really like it... a little too far from the old one and a little too "uniconic" Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
November 1, 201213 yr Commercial Member I see your point, but at the same time, anything new, by definition, is not going to be iconic. Apple pie and baseball didn't become American icons immediately. Because of their inclusion in American history, they've been identified as such over time. Similarly, the Golden Gate Bridge didn't get painted international orange to be recognizable as an iconic bridge. Rather, it was painted orange partially because of the color of the sealant, and partially because of the need to be visible to ships in the San Francisco fog (the standard grey in the rest of the country would've made it blend in). It was only because of its uniqueness identified over time that it's been identified as an iconic landmark. Kyle Rodgers
November 1, 201213 yr I don't believe this is an officially proposed livery. It was designed by an independent graphic designer Anthony Harding as what one may look like. The source for this did not come from AA itself!! http://www.airlinere...-looks-like-it/ Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
November 1, 201213 yr As others have said, this is NOT an official rendering of what the new livery will look like. Personally I'm rather attached to the current livery...and it'd have to be something pretty incredible to change my mind. But I'm not running the airline, so we'll see what they come up with... George Widener
November 1, 201213 yr They announced last May they are studying alternative liveries, but have not set a timeline for decision. One issue is the composite skin on their new 787s can't be polished like common aluminum skins, so they have to figure out whether to try to approximate the polished color or switch to something else for the 787s.
