A Little Prayer for all the Victims and Families in Connecticut

A win for truckers is a loss for everyone else on the road. Radar detectors are legal in Texas, however, most patrol officers have " instant on" radar that will make your device look really stupid. I got a warning from a State Trooper that said " the look on your face was better than the effects of a traffic fine". Radar detector is on the shelf. I drive within 5 miles of the speed limit with no problems.

I my opinion what we are witnessing is "mass brain malfunction" that is both biological and sociological. Never before has the human brain been bombarded with thousands if not millions of man made chemicals combined with a lifestyle completely out of sync with our genetics and a society that can play video games and kill completely without consequence in total social isolation. WE are at the tipping point in our culture where brain malfunction may create colony collapse if we stay on our current path. We have a society in America where 1/3 of the population is obese and 2/3 overweight. Brain malfunction is probably at a similar level and rising due to our toxic world and toxic lifestyle.

While I agree there are some serious issues with society these days, if you look back thru history, we have always had members of our species doing unspeakable acts to our fellow human beings, so this is really nothing new. Despite my realistic view of the world, my deepest condolences to the families that lost loved ones.

Randy S, i have really valued your points made in this thread. Every time i wanted to respond, your posts pretty much summed up where i stood, so thanks.

Video games are not to blame

Drugs, Desperation, Mental Illness and Poverty are too blame. In this particular instance it was desperation and possibly mental illness.

If video games were to blame the countries that played them would be the world leaders in crime, homicide, etc. however it has been shown the most violence is in countries that are FAR too poor for video games... They fight and kill out of desperation in most places in the world, not because of TV or games... As others have said, if it were video games how do you explain the killings that took place before video games? Oh wait it was TV and Movies. Before that? Maybe books to blame? Was it those GI Joe soldiers? Was it all the cops and robbers we played as kids? If you are a "normal" individual I doubt any game would ever "TURN" you into a killer...

So no, I don't think it is TV and Video games, statistics show drugs, desperation, mental illness and poverty cause more violence than anything in the world...

Also, with 1/3 of the population being obese and 2/3 being overweight you do realize you classified the ENTIRE population (3/3) as Obese or overweight...

At 5'6 145 pounds and consistently 6-10% body fat I would beg to differ ;)

Well by dead if there's not something wrong with the world, and on Christmas eve too, such a shame.

That's terrible news. Our firemen get shot at quite a bit in Chicago by the gangs and drug dealers. Another example of how messed up society is. This is a terrible loss. Many towns around here actually equip firemen with bulletproof vests!!

Another example of how we can't base our laws off what criminals do. No matter what, it's going to happen. It's just a damn shame.

Sincerely,

Chase

Video games very well could be a factor. With our current population spending 3/4ths of our time on the couch sitting and eating potato chips, it's no WONDER we have a mass brain malfunction! Sitting on the couch and eating potato chips is toxic to our body. So, we take an overload of drugs to couteract all of our problems. We as humans were not meant to sit 24 hours a day! Bad diet combined with no activity causes mass brain malfunction and there is NO lie to that.

And when I said 1/3 is obese, and 2/3 is overweight, I didn't mean I was adding the two together. Obese ALSO means overweight. So the obese population and overweight population COMBINED is 2/3 of our population.

There are a lot of theories around, I am not sure any of them stand up to scientific scrutiny, violence has been around for as long as humans have been around, the problem today is that instead of kiling one or two people, you can kill many many people very quickly. There has to be some limit to the high capacity semi & automatic guns in order to limit the carnage. In terms of the link between gun ownership and deaths, this is all you need to know:

I don't see what possible reason people could have to shoot a fireman, they provide a valuable service, and I can't see a way to have issues with the fire service as one might say a police officer, or a politician, but a fireman? Who in their right mind could do such a thing to someone who dedicates their lives to saving others... It's a disgrace.

What in the world will this do? Are we assuming that every shooter in the world is going to go into a gun store and think "Oh, there is a law now, so I think I am only going to get one clip".

This in no way stops killers from buying one magazine.

The only reason you say that is because you, as a politician feel obligated that you have to "take action", while in reality you just said that mass killers have existed for thousands of years!

I know... Just like this tragic shooting in CT though, there is never going to be an explanation that will understand. It's an act of evil. As we witnessed there, a criminal doesn't discriminate who they target, even little kids and firemen.

Sincerely,

Chase

In most cases like this it is one of two things... Domestic violence and someone will be found burned in the house (but dead before the fire) or a drug den they were trying to protect until it burned out...

Sad, very sad...

Scarlett, where are you citing your #'s and sources from? 3/4 of our time on the couch eating potato chips? Potato chips and the couch is toxic to your mind and lead to taking drugs to counteract? Where is the study showing bad diet and a dormant lifestyle = mass brain malfunction? I am sorry, I am not following your points at all...

Violence has been around long before video games, potato chips, dormant lifestyles, bad diets and every other emotional reason you can throw out there...

I am very sad to wake up to the news of the shooting near Rochester, New York. I am very familiar with this area and have come to like the people of up-state New York over the years. This is a tragic event for this wonderful community.

RIP to the fallen, from the news feeds they are saying Lt. Michael Chiapperini was a 20 year veteran of the fire service as well as a police officer.

I meant to limit the number of rounds in a clip. Presumably it takes time to reload constantly so there is more time for people to escape and authorities to deal with the situation.
