December 16, 201213 yr Hi, Before, i did not have spikes with poolsize=0 + nvidia driver 306.97 + windows 7 home edition. After, i upgraded my gpu drive to 310.7 and spikes appeared .. and i also upgraded my W7 home edition to W7 ultimate (i reinstalled C with switching custom installation), i reinstalled all drivers and gpu drive 310.7, and spikes were still there. And finally i go back to 306.97 and they are still there ! I have water at HIGH 2x and my FSX.cfg is optimized with Word Not Allowed's guide also nvidiainspector. (pre rendered frames = 1 ) Spikes appear ONLY with the NGX and rarely (very rarely) with default planes. Spikes EVEN sometimes appears without poolsize=0 with the NGX plane. According to GPU-Z logs, FSX uses 850mb of gpu memory (i have 2Go (msi gtx 660 twin frozr))
December 16, 201213 yr Don't forget to check very accurately ALL your NvidiaInspector FSX settings after installing new drivers and compare them to the Word Not Allowed recommendations. For me every time i did a driver upgrade, one or two settings were changed in my FSX profile. But apart from that i never had any problem with any new driver. PS. You can search also in the Monitors, Video Cards and Drivers froum: http://forum.avsim.net/forum/327-monitors-video-cards-and-drivers/ With kind regards, Bart S.
December 16, 201213 yr Spiking is due to GPU overload. It simply means you need to reduce some of the work that the GPU is having to do. One thing you should look at doing, expecially if you have followed Word Not Allowed's tweaks, who I think if I am not mistaken suggests an LOD of 6.5, is to drop your LOD back to 4.5, which is the FSX default. Another thing you should consider is to hand the workload back to FSX for Anistoropic filtering. So in Inspector, choose appilcation controlled. A lot of fellow simmers are finding that this is indeed a way of doing things. I really think if you follow these two tips then it will cure your problem, unless of course you are being over zealous elsewhere with settings. Anyway, try those changes and let us know how you get on. December 16, 201213 yr Lower your water setting for starters. Spikes are normally an issue with RAM, how much do you have? Jay
December 16, 201213 yr Spikes are a "mainly" an Inspector setting problem. Sometimes an FSX setting can cause it too. Check your settings. Try a different driver. MSFS
December 16, 201213 yr Author I have 8GB ram 1600mhz and gpu ram 2Gb. FSX uses 850MB gpu ram when running. Rocklife, my lod is already 4.5 and anisotropic setting are like you said, same as Word Not Allowed's settings.
December 16, 201213 yr The only time I have ever seen spikes was due to the driver release for my video card. I had to use another release. However, that was a few years ago.
December 16, 201213 yr Someone mentioned in a previous thread about setting the maximum pre-rendered frames in inspector to 1 could help fix the spiking problem. Have you tried that yet? EDIT: Just re-read your post indicating you have tried it, sorry. - Aaron

I followed Word Not Allowed's tweaks except this one. I left this at 4.5 and no spikes. Rick Hobbs
December 16, 201213 yr I followed Word Not Allowed's tweaks except this one. I left this at 4.5 and no spikes. Good... however, for problems with spiking, returning Anistropic filtering to FSX and NOT running it through Inspector can have very positive results. This is purely a personal preference, but I have found it helped with several issues, as many other guys have too! December 18, 201213 yr To the OP, I was able to fix the issue by fully removing the 310 drivers using the instructions here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1150443/how-to-remove-your-nvidia-gpu-drivers.
December 27, 201213 yr Author Well i tried everything, i even reinsstalled my OS, reinstalled drivers and nvidia 306.97 driver, and spikes still there, it happens only with the ngx the only way to get rid of it it's to lock fps at 20 in airports, and i did'nt buy new specs for play fsx at 20 fps !! fps is unstable with the ngx, it's moving aroung 22-30 and sometimes go 15fps for 1 second (when fps are locked to 30) and my FPS goes around 15 in the ngx cockpit when i'am parked at big airports like schipol, with the DEFAULT GAME, default scenery, default textures ... !!!
December 27, 201213 yr Did you try.... returning Anistropic filtering to FSX and NOT running it through Inspector ... as suggested?
