2013-01-13 AVSIM Maintenance Updates

Featured Replies

This morning, I was glad to find that yesterday night's maintenance updates had been completed. However, I quickly became disappointed, displeased, and frustrated, having lost 57 posts, 8 +1s, and 1 quiz that took me over an hour to create, revise, and publish. I was wondering whether AVSIM has any back-ups of all the content posted in the past few days that has been lost (i.e., are the updates really complete?). I apologize for my impatience, but would like to think that we did not waste multiple hours of our lives in the past few days posting content that no longer exists.

There were quite a few interesting threads I was following and now they are gone!

Hope this is all sorted soon

According to Tom Allensworth, all new content since Wednesday has been permanently lost. I am very annoyed, especially since this weekend, during which I did not have access to FSX, happened to be one of my "most-active" AVSIM weekends.

I hope there will be better communication in the future regarding similar potential losses of data.

Guys... Our upgrade was blotched by the forum makers as they released a crucial security update but told no one it was alpha stage. We weren't the only host to update and find out afterwards the negative consequences. This created a chain of events that now has made us lose a couple days of posts. We are very sorry but this was no foreseen.

Sincerely,

Chase

Chase, I bet you guys were working through the night at a frantic pace trying to recover while we were all sleeping. Thanks for that!

Thank you for the explanation. I hope future updates go more smoothly.

Not that I'm complaining, Avsim is a free service after all, but as a DB professional, may I suggest you revise your backup policy. For whatever reason the forum system becomes unusable, loosing four days of many interesting messages/threads is disappointing to many users.

Thank you for you efforts...

We made a backup before the big update. It wouldn't make much sense for us to backup our flawed system over the last few days. Sorry if that doesn't come off as professional.

Sincerely,

Chase

I am really getting tired of the Monday morning quarterbacking by folks who have no clue as to what our situation was and the problems we encountered. I would suggest that folks just drop the second guessing and finger pointing and give us the benefit of the doubt. The presumptuousness of some members of this community amazes me.

I totally agree with this assessment. There's far worse things than a few lost threads for chrissakes.

I suppose if you'd made a statement before this thread was started about what happened, nothing would've been said.

its still sucks to lose four days of posts. most of us are just wondering why all of those couldn't have been saved. its a simple discussion for everyone to understand whats going on; i don't see whats so wrong with that.

What's to wonder about?

They made a backup on Wednesday before they upgraded their systems.

The upgrades didnt work, so they reverted to their last save...which was wednesday. Therefore, everything posted beyond Wednesday up to today was not saved in the backup.

What part of that is confusing?

i assume upgrades were to system functionality; which leaves us to wonder why couldn't the posts themselves have been saved. i'm glad you get it, but most of us don't.

Dude, 57 posts in a day......they don't need to fix the forums, you need to get a flippin job

(edit) I see it was perhaps 2 days. You still need to get a flippin job LOL

I seriously doubt that, and the tone of your messages tend to confirm my suspicions in that regard. However, did you notice the big FAT WHITE ANNOUNCEMENT at the top of this page and every page in the system??? That WAS posted before this thread was launched.
