PMDG 747 V2 - Mysterious Addition

Featured Replies

Hello All!

The new PMDG 747 V2 has lain in the shadow of it's precursor (the 777) since it was announced. There have been (as far as I am aware of) no screenshots and really not a lot of info. It has been posted, however, that release is scheduled for before this summer. Is this a choice to release no screenshots and info, or has PMDG not started work on it yet. It is, as far as I understand, a complete rebuild of the 747, NGX/777 style. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Work is certainly ongoing, Robert has been desperate to show us some screenshots. But he said in his latest update that he thinks he will wait till after the 777 release...

Who knowS?! Robert adores the 747, so maybe he will get impatient and show off some things early :P

We don't know when 777 is scheduled for release, so let's not speculate about 747. The reason why PMDG is holding updates lies in past, when NGX was about to be released. There was plenty of people looking for mistakes, errors etc in previews. Never ending comparisons of random photos found on web with presented model were turning every thread into flame war, and team had to focus on moderating forum instead of coding. 747 is in development, and it will be released after 777, that's all we know :)

EDIT:

If they really want to finally show us something, that's great news! :)

EDIT2:

This was my 747th post, lets hope it's good sign!! :)

Why would they want to wait 'till after the 777 release?

Probably because they are busy with the 777?

It's what RSR said, ;)

Congratulations!

I believe the B737 BBJ and B747 V2 are shown in this recent screen shot.

Check out the resolution on those babies!!!! HD!

Nah, take a closer look, it's 8K !!! :P

It is also interesting to observe how the distance between the end of the rudder and end of the fuselage is so much shorter on the B747 compared to that on the B777.

Congratulations!

Nice screenshot, where did you dig that up?

PMDG are also known to hold back any screenshots in which things are not yet finished or exactly to their liking. I would guess that would be one reason why they haven't shown anything yet.

Another reason I can think of is a simple one of marketing. As the T7 is the first on the playbook to release, this is the one that should be getting all the attention - which is currently exactly what is going on. I would say sit tight, this is also a release I am eagerly anticipating... maybe more so than the T7... and I truly hope that it will release very quickly after the T7. But till the T7 is there, we will probably not see any screenshots on the 744v2.

Three screen shots of the cockpit and exterior model of the PMDG B777 were released today by Robert Randazzo of PMDG as a form of thanks following a highly successful charity event for Tony Radmilovich. There are several other threads describing the circumstances of Mr. Radmilovich's unfortunate injuries.

Sorry...

I can't find the new pics. Can you tell me where they are?

For those of you who may not have sales/marketing backgrounds (I do...), there is a reason why PMDG/Capt. Randazzo have done things they way they are.

Simply put, they understand their market. They understand the value add of their product to the market. They also understand the concept of under promise and over deliver.

Their market: Rabid Flight Sim Fanatics. The kind of Flight Simmer who will a) demand as close to reality as can be achieved within the platform we have and B) are willing to pay for the privilege of owning such a product.

Their value add: Their products are, bar non, the absolute finest quality aircraft on the Flight Sim market. No other FS third party vendor can come close to what PMDG has achieved with its product, especially the 737NGX.

The concept of under promise and over deliver: The segment of this particular market is ruthless when it comes to flaws in the product. Other vendors have put products out there and have been carpet bombed by the community for not living up to their promises. While PMDGs products have never been perfect on day one, they have been very close and the bug fixes that they develop happen very fast and usually resolve 99.9% of their problems. I can't think of one serious FS community member who has anything truly negative to say about their product. Yes, we may not like the lack of details, but this is marketing guys, you don't have to like the way they do it. You just have to want it badly. VERY badly. Guess what folks, we do.

PMDG knows exactly what it is doing and Capt. Randazzo is as brilliant a marketer as he is a pilot. If you understand marketing at all...you get this.

It is why I wait patiently for them to debut their product. I also get a kick from the knowledge that they are probably as much enjoying all the hype that we are helping them create as they are working hard to produce a product that will blow the market away. I like Game Changers.

I only wish that Lockheed Martin would pull its collective heads out of places where the sun doesn't shine and license somebody to sell a slimmed down version of their product for the entertainment market. That would solve the licensing problem and create a side market for LM that would generate millions of dollars that they would not otherwise see. They could sell a slimmed down version of their product for 60% of what the training market price and we'd happily fork over the cash...and the licensing royalties from the third party vendors.

See...this is the difference between engineers and marketers. Engineers build the steak. Marketers find ways to make the $5 steak worth the $50 price you pay for it.

All the best to the forum and PMDG.
