Have to admit I've hated learning tabs since I was a kid, have no problem listening to a song and playing it back on guitar, if I try and learn through tabs it takes too long. I guess everyone's different.

 

still have a whole bunch of Metallica, pearl jam and Nirvana tabs in my book collection. hope they are worth something someday

I've run a company for almost 15 years that makes professional guitar tab books for popular bands and publishers. I make "tabs" and that's where my Tabs handle comes from.

If it is not confidential, how do you convert music scores to a digital format, as you have done in your screen shot? Through Finale or Sibelius? I have used the latter, and have found its interface to be very clean and friendly. Unfortunately, when I switched schools, I lost access to the school's license.

Some of you know I'm a musician. (I've played guitar since I was 9 years old) Guitar music is often written with something called "tab", short for tablature. It's a representation of the strings of the guitar as staff lines with numbers and symbols on them that indicate the fret positions to place your fingers at and techniques to perform like slides, bends, vibrato etc. It usually appears below the standard music notation staff. I've run a company for almost 15 years that makes professional guitar tab books for popular bands and publishers. I make "tabs" and that's where my Tabs handle comes from.

 

Here's an example of what it looks like from an official book I authored for a band. Bonus points if anyone can name the song - I'd be impressed!

Gibson, Definitely Gibson. My LP was actually made in my hometown of Kalamazoo MI, before they relocated to TN. There was a noticeable drop in quality when they moved. Last time I was home the factory is still empty.
