Carenado Cirrus SR22 Released!

Featured Replies

Here's my response copied from the soh forums:

I bought it. I like it. I went in knowing what to expect (and not to expect Flight1 G1000-like avionics). It flies well, looks great. The sounds are lacking... they won't sound quite like the cirruses that fly around duluth... and the sound is very muffled during cruise, and a little distorted...

The LVL button works hehe (but we've been doing this for a long time in FS!) Night lighting is good, smooth gauges (even the g1000 is decent). I'm finding the clickspots easy to manipulate compared to previous releases. The A/P behavior is typical (misses localizer intercepts and has to correct back), but I find it works pretty good overall. There is one annoying bug I found so far with the avionics. The push direct to course knob doesn't work (similar to heading where you'd make the heading sync - the course knob usually points to the station and the direct course to - doesn't work with this release)

I'm not having fps issues like some people were reporting.

Flight model seems fine from my limited SR22 time. I found the yaw axis to be quite sensitive on this version. I flew an older G1 SR22 and the rudder wasn't nearly this touchy both on the roll and airborne. Could be my hardware, could be my lack of time.

Overall, possible a little pricey for what you get but I love the Cirrus so I was bound to get it anyway

Nice review. Would it be safe to assume that Bernt Stolle once again did the FDE?

Same for me, I find the yaw axis too nervous. Other than that, I'd say it's a good flight model.

Sounds are weak, that's for sure...

I'll fly a few more patterns tomorrow!

Hard to say if I would recommend it, graphics wise it's probably the best Carenado release yet. Systems are on the light side, flight model is good. Performance is defenitely not as good as with the RealAir Legacy or the Flight 1 C182T on my system...

I made a 2D popup of the RXP 530W. The A/P flies the legs as it normally would, and the CDI on GPS mode will slew to correct course. I wonder if you turned Link on in the rxp .ini if the G1000 would display the pink legs on the MFD? I don't have that command nor do I know where it goes...

Looks like typical Carenado stuff. Pleasing to the eye, but not to the touch.

Touch is fine.. the fde is pretty good. Just the systems are lacking. But it's what we expect from them so if you go in knowing that you won't be dissapointed. I think people forget how difficult and costly it is to make a fully featured (or near fully featured) G1000. It's just not something I see Carenado doing - ever. I pick and choose what I buy of theirs... I've built Cirrus parts with my own hands so I wanted to buy this plane... easy decision for me. It won't be for you if you want systems modeling.

Don't see the point in this when Eaglesoft already has a superbly modeled (including systems!) SR22T, and the model and VC aren't exactly ugly.

And I want the GA porn star. I know what to expect, just hoping this was the one...

A2A will have accu-simed C172 and Cherokee out this year.

And I think THAT's a bad rap on Carenados. Recent releases from them fly very well, and while not perfect, I don't think they did too badly on systems either in the mostly analog King Airs (or at least the C90 - don't have the new one, but from comments it seems to be quite similar in systems level) or even the JetProp.

I like theirs too (and the RXP 430W fits nicely) but the VC is really dated (in the graphics dept) and so is the exterior.

I don't mind buying Carenado aircraft for their visuals--most Carenado fans appreciate them for what they do well. I wish they would stick to steam gauge aircraft--I think modelling a complex glass cockpit is not their niche. Also, as I noted in another thread their King Air had a noticable hit on my fps. And it sounds like for some, this release is hard on fps. I have Eaglesoft's Columbia and that's smooth as can be on my system, and it has a glass cockpit. I plan on skipping purchase of Carenado's Cirrus but I hold out hope their TBM 850 will work better. I exchanged emails with them recently and I believe the TBM 850's release will be very soon.

John

Yeah I'll be getting the TBM as well. I'm sure it will have the same G1000 that's in this one, and their 182, but the TBM is a sexy beast... and it's fast, perfect for what I love!

I had the SR22 running at avg 20fps on my system from VC view with both PFD and Garmin map on and actively being used, in my usual well-trodden KLGA to KJFK flight tonight, and this with Scenery Complexity at max and Autogen at Very Dense (the latter to remind myself what I am), and I have to say, it is a blast!

It's definitely a bit more of a challenge to my system with the glass cockpit than other aircraft with more traditional VC simulation; I think simply having the dual screens both updating in real-time, with everything going on, is a significant load.

However, it works, it doesn't have to be PMDG, it makes the SR22 different enough to be worth getting as yet another cool, unique flight experience, and it's fun!

Don't get it if you don't like GA navigation and IFR and a small challenge in getting it optimized for your flying preferences (true of all add-ons; they all need special mastery).

But DEFINITELY get it if you like all of the above and Carenado's visual design. It really strikes its own balance in the fantastic list of GA aircraft to have in your collection.

Just got this plane and I did a quick 1 hr flight for this, but I noticed that they did not include or they forgot to add the white nav light on the wings. Maybe it's an option for this plane?

Hmmmm, it may be an option... looking at their web site. Not sure though.

I'm having a weird issue. My PFD has the same engine monitor as the MFD. In their screenshots at the site I don't see this engine monitor on the PFD (I think that's how it's supposed to be) Here's theirs and mine: Is this a setting buried somewhere in the MFD pages?
