Wow someone rattled your cage.

It will take a lot more than "you" to "rattle" my cage. ^_^

I thought it was perfectly logical

There in lies the problem.

And if you don't like it why don't you go somewhere else.

I do, I frequent lots of different places, and have enlightening conversations at all of them. I don't tell people where to go, unless provoked with personal attacks, something you did to our fellow forum member. I try to engage them in a thought provoking, intelligent, example filled manner, something all but a few seem capable of around here.

He has as much right to come here and speak his peace about Xplane as you do. You do not have the right or power to tell him to go elsewhere. If you don't like what he has to say, ignore it. This continual attack of fellow forum members with opposing views, or productive viable options or alternatives, has to stop.

He was trying to be proactive, offering something that might make Xplane a better simulator, something possibly positive.

What were you offering, nothing but attack / confrontation.

Have a nice day Jason.....

Hi Glen thanks for your reasoned response.

I most certainly wasn't telling him to go somewhere else though. I was simply wondering out loud why he was here so much when he has no interest in Xplane. I have been using xplane for years so having you tell me to get lost sounded a bit rich. You are putting words in my mouth saying things like "I do not have the right to tell him to go elsewhere" then in the same breath you are telling me the same thing!!!

I come here as I have for many years for pleasure and because I enjoy flight simming. This constant sniping and sarcasm from people who appear to be here for no other reason frustrates the hell out of me.

I am getting tired of it all, maybe it's my age.

You too have a good day Glen (I really do mean it)

I am getting tired of it all, maybe it's my age.

I haven't yet. 62 next month. Seems like I was worried about turning 30 just yesterday....

Thanks for the humor guys. :drinks:

Jason, I'd like to think we could have a civil conversation, despite our differences.

Larry, I'm not to tired either, and I'm definitely on the "downs(l)ide" myself.

Alain, were going to start charging admission.

I went the XP route for a while, after Microsoft gave up on FSX and I gradually lost interest in flight simming (vs. real flying) until LM got Prepar3D more or less stable with V1.4.

I don't really see any major advantages of FSX vs. XP10 vs. P3D at the moment, but I can see why developers want to embrace the Microsoft software lineage. It has to do with market penetration. FSX was dying out, because Microsoft had basically abandoned it. If LM hadn't picked up the ball, XPlane would have probably been the only viable flight sim in a few years. But now we are back in that gray area, where none of the three sims has an obvious advantage.

ORBX is a top notch product and it is their prerogative to focus their limited energies on both the new and legacy Microsoft sector of the sim market. But just because THEY think that way, is no reflection on what the future will bring for flight simming.

As others have said in this and other threads, in the mean time, use your sim and enjoy it for what it is worth. At some point, the market will force all of us to make a choice, but that time is not upon us yet.

I have enough room for both sims on my HD

The problem with XP is the guy at the top. Until he realizes that his sim isn't perfect it will never have a chance to become perfect.

Cameron I have to agree with Robains, if one just looks at the description and system requirements on the XP website, they can very easily get the impression it's a Direct X application! While I understand your point about it only being a hardware requirement, with no mention of OpenGL, the inference is that it is a DX app.

Does it matter? Either your hardware is up to spec or it isn't. That's all the minimum requirement is there for. It's not to advertise particular features of the software. The fact that it also works with MacOS and Linux should be your first clue that it's not dependent on a Windows-only graphics API like DirectX.

if you don't like it why don't you go somewhere else.

Because he thinks if he whines enough on the forums, Laminar will suddenly jump up and implement every last item on his feature wish list... or something...

(Don't worry, it's just a bit of humor... with a pinch of truth.)

it's pretty sad that FlightGear, a free flightsim will get snow textures before xplane10  :(

Then go ahead and install FlightGear. It's free, which is nice. Aren't options wonderful?

I prefer not to hear the word whining as we are all grown ups and are always looking for the best FS experience available. The thing is currently most of us are invested in the most feature rich FS available which happens to be FSX with all its bugs and warts.

Personally I always felt that OpenGL would go the way of the DoDo after DirectX 5 but that is really not relevant to this thread.

Point is that I really enjoy FSX and would hate to lose a single feature that it delivers - yes that includes the lame ATC, all the cool planes (RealAir, PMDG), all the cool scenery (ORBX, MegaScenery), all the cool utilities (EXDOK, Opus, UTII, EZScenery).

And regarding performance FSX just rocks on a 4.8ghz machine.

Anyway I'm all for moving onward and upward but I (we) need persuasive options.

Cheers

They are all reasonable reasons as to why you would prefer fsx over xplane, you should have said that first rather than this..

I choose DirectX to run my FS. Nothing more nothing less
