As you can see from "no programmer" comments in this thread, people don't understand what DX is nor what OpenGL and versions of each and why versions are important -- I'm basically looking at what the LCD is (lowest common denominator). I understand why you "think" LM used DX references ... and you maybe correct in that assumption, I'm not debating that and you've agreed it was poorly worded.

None of what I said is assumption. It's fact. I am in constant contact with Laminar on a daily basis. I am a programmer. I am also open minded and understand Laminar's position in the matter.

Good points. the fact remains however that my OS runs on DirectX and not OpenGL.

No offense, but this is kind of a dumb argument....see below.

Some notable applications that include an OpenGL renderer (highlighted most used...even for MSFS):

Adobe After Effects — a digital motion graphics and compositing software.

Adobe Photoshop — a popular photo and graphics editing software.

Adobe Premiere Pro — a real-time, timeline based video editing software application.

3D Studio Max — modeling, animation and rendering package developed by Autodesk Media and Entertainment.

Autodesk Maya — modeling, animation, sculpting, and rendering package that uses its own scripting language, MEL. Developed by Autodesk Media and Entertainment.

Blender — 3D CAD, animation, and games engine.

Celestia — 3D astronomy program.

Enhanced Machine Controller (EMC2) — G-code interpreter for CNC machines.

Google Earth — Earth mapping software.

Google SketchUp - easy to use 3D modeler.

Houdini - modeling, animation, effects, rendering and compositing package developed by Side Effects Software.

InVesalius - A cross platform software, visualization medical images and reconstruction.

Really Slick Screensavers — 3D Screensavers.

Rhinoceros — NURBS Modeling for Windows.

SAP2000 — structural analysis program.

Scilab — Mathematical tool, clone of MATLAB.

Stellarium — High quality night sky simulator.

Universe Sandbox

Virtools — a real-time 3D engine.

XBMC Media Center — A cross platform, open source media center.

LOL good one - now you know what I'm talking about.

Oh, I know what you're talking about, and it's just as ridiculous as choosing one foot-shaped cotton garment over another out of spurious fears of incompatibility. For goodness sakes, fly the sim you want to fly, but if you feel like you need to explain your decision, you could at least pick a reason that makes sense.

Guys, I've decided I'm only going to wear Nike socks from now on. Since my shoes are Nike, it's clear to me that the best socks to wear are Nike as well. Lord knows what sorts of problems I'd have if I mixed Fruit of the Loom socks with my shoes.

And what, may I ask, is wrong with Fruit of the Loom???

:P

:P

I mean, I ain't saying they're bad or anything... it's just Nike makes my shoes, so naturally, their socks are more compatible.

Dontcha know.

Come on guys as the Nike comment portrays we are talking personal preferences. I choose DirectX to run my FS. Nothing more nothing less. Nail me to a cross for it but you can't get me to change my mind.

I wouldnt want to change your mind but given your incorrect reason for your decision it was worth pointing out for the benefit of others that it makes no difference.

You choose a FS that only uses DX. In choosing DX only you are also limiting your options.

PS anyone can post here, but why do you hang around when you have no intention of having anything to do with xplane. Thats a rhetorical question so don't bother to answer.

For the record, ORBx would be better off concentrating on those airports that have not been given the Xtreme treatment by UK2000. If everyone works together, then the world will remain the same happy, fluffy place that we all love

@Simmo W

Since Wales is going to be such a small region, it's not exactly what I'd call free :-). I was expecting their surprise to be sheep everywhere :D

Yes we do have a lot of them.

Good points. the fact remains however that my OS runs on DirectX and not OpenGL.

As has been pointed out to you already, the graphics card manufacturers make DirectX compatible drivers for their hardware, not Microsoft. I can guarantee that the graphics card drivers installed on your system right now will be compatible with both Direct3D AND OpenGL, and that if you installed a piece of software that used OpenGL (such as XP10 or IL-2) it would work just fine with no intervention from yourself.

The "unnecessary layer of complexity" is not dealt with by your OS, it's dealt with by your video card manufacturer.

So your assertation that your OS "runs" on DirectX is actually mistaken. Software running either DirectX or OpenGL will work just fine on your system.

"You choose a FS that only uses DX. In choosing DX only you are also limiting your options."

Just as those that purchase Macs, or choose to run Linux, are limiting themselves, when these machines don't natively support Directx. Sure there are ways around it, but you have "limited" yourself as soon as you make that purchase decision. "WE" know how to get around those limitations, the average "joe" probably doesn't, it's still limiting.

Goes both ways?

I will.

He has as much right to be here and speak his mind as you do, no need to be a smart *ss. Don't like it, YOU go somewhere else.

Wow someone rattled your cage.

First off it wasn't a smart &@($* comment. I thought it was perfectly logical. And if you don't like it why don't you go somewhere else.
