FlyTampa YSSY

Featured Replies

Thought I'd give a heads up to all of us here in the FS9 board. FlyTampa's started to work on a YSSY scenery, an area that's been neglected for FS9 for years. I'm super excited as they have announced there will be an FS9 version albeit without photoscenery and the like. Small price to pay IMO.

The best part about FlyTampa though is George mentioning the following in a different post:

I'm considering more FS9 conversions as is Martin.

However, to stay sane, we probably will cut photoscenery from the FS9 versions. The FS9 autogen tool is like sweeping a runway with a toothbrush.

How about that, a developer that still cares for us FS9 users. B)

Really wish he would have done Auckland instead... We have many versions of YSSY but nothing for Auckland (freeware is void of this airport as well).

I never felt the need for a YSSY, strangely, the stock FS9 airport was one of the better offerings.

+1 for Auckand, it is truly neglected.

ORBX as far as I know, do not do FS9 work.

Dillon, there is very old scenery which is still pressed into use, I think originally it was for FS2000, and then modded and modded again for FS2002. At least the buildings are (sort of) in the right place!

Way to go Fly Tampa...looking forward to it.

Fantastic news! Finally!

ORBX is doing Auckland (http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/47253-nzni-auckland-intl-up-close/) . There have been a few freeware YSSY sceneries, but Flytampa YSSY is taking it to a whole new level.

I thought this was the FS9 forum... Why is this fact continually missed by some.

The left pane on the Avsim homepage lists the most recent topics in the Forum but doesn't specify where it's been posted. I believe that leads to some confusion over where what is posted. Still, that ORBX comment made me really hopeful, but then I read the rest of the replies and died a little, lol. Oh what I'd give to have ORBX quality scenery in FS9!

You can.

John Venema, and other commited artists, cut their development teeth on VOZ which, even today, remains one of the most downloaded FS9 freeware items.

We're talking New Zealand not Ausi... <_<

These guys have long since left FS9.

I have a freeware scenery of Auckland here. It's not awesome, but it's certainly better than the std one. It's by Savern Reweti, Deane Baunton and Shayne Butler , certainly OK for my purposes. (Please excuse the bold font, can't seem to get rid of it...), pretty sure I picked it up here.

I do not have a signature. Why are you reading this?

I haven't found anything but let's say there is freeware, it's amazing nothing professional has ever been done for Auckand. Freeware can be hit and miss with quality and accuracy but a payware offering usually get's it right especially from a developer like Martin (FlyTampa). I've seen more that a few YSSY's out there, it's even a default airport but with New Zealand being so close it's bitter sweet seeing their major airport constantly overlooked. It's a developer's choice but it's still aggravating.

If you want to try it, as Sluggy says, it's here.

If you try it, you need to de-activate NZAA-2002-smooth.bgl

Just loaded it up and promptly uninstalled it. Anything that's an old FS2k2 convert is usually on the level of an FS9 aircraft in FSX. No autogen 10 to 15 miles out from the airport, static aircraft sitting on top of real AI, Auckland needs better. I did like the additions to the city but in my book there's really no 'decent' Auckland City/Intl airport scenery to speak of for FSX and FS9 which is a shame.
