February 17, 201313 yr On occasion we like to post statistics that show just how vibrant and busy a community AVSIM is. Here are some stats from January 1, 2013 to noon on February 17th EDT. First up; the number of people that have registered since January 1st: Next; how many NEW topics were created: Next; how many POSTS were made in the forum topics since January 1st: What were the top 10 forums and how many visits / views of those forums were made since January 1st? I will let you do the math for the total number of views of the top 10 forums. EDIT: One other stat that I thought I should add is that of the number of REGISTRATIONS that we have blocked since January 1st. Some folks have questioned the number of registrations and their validity and claim that the number of registrations is inflated due to spammers, robots, etc. This stat shows just part of the registrations that we block. Other attempts to register are not shown here; blocked proxy attempts, those we detect after the registration process, duplicate IP's that are blocked, etc. Those shown below are those blocked as SPAMMERS that appear in various spam databases and that we automatically block. You can add an average of 100 - 150 that we block manually a month on top of that shown below. Edited February 17, 201313 yr by Tom Allensworth Include SPAM blocks.

February 18, 201313 yr I love that last one. Our numbers are pretty accurate as we also weed out unused accounts. I deleted 2,000 plus old accounts last week. February 18, 201313 yr Moderator I was surprised to see that the FSX and 2 PMDG forums got that much viewing in respect to the other forums listed. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 18, 201313 yr I like stats. Thanks for the info. Seems quite healthy to me. Interesting to see how you block some registrations and the software that allows you to weed out the rubbish. How do you deem an account to be unused. Is it a time issue? Kind Regards Simon.
February 18, 201313 yr Interesting stuff Tom. I would imagine in the next week or so AVSIM will have its 100,000th member. I say we reward that guy or gal with say FREE WENDY'S ROOTBEER FLOATS for a month! I hear Chase might me interested in setting this up  Chris Sunseri
February 18, 201313 yr I just noticed that somebody changed my profile. I wonder whom that could have been...Tom! I like stats. Thanks for the info. Seems quite healthy to me. Interesting to see how you block some registrations and the software that allows you to weed out the rubbish. How do you deem an account to be unused. Is it a time issue? Last login generally. We recognize a good amount of users register but may wait years to post... So going by last login is usually the most accurate way. February 19, 201313 yr I deleted 2,000 plus old accounts last week. Is this a tedious manual process, or is it generally automated? When a member becomes banned or inactive, is his or her personal content / profile permanently deleted and rendered unrecoverable?
February 19, 201313 yr Author Is this a tedious manual process, or is it generally automated? When a member becomes banned or inactive, is his or her personal content / profile permanently deleted and rendered unrecoverable? Owen, the details are operational questions that we are not going to get into detail over. There are any number of permutations that we can and do employ.
February 19, 201313 yr Moderator Another interesting stat I would be curious to see is a list of what countries the members are from who visit the Avsim forums or make up the bulk of members registered. Not sure if Avsim tracks this, but it would be interesting to see what countries are represented most frequently here. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
