April 13, 201313 yr It just happened less than an hour ago, no casualties has been reported, it seems all on board survived. It took off from Bandung an ended in the sea after the planes unsuccessfully stopped properly. Could it be aquaplaning? April 13, 201313 yr And to think that in the latest issue of Airliner World, they were gushing what a brill Indonesian airline they were. What a loss of an aircraft. Rick Almeida
April 13, 201313 yr Dodgy airline. Shame as the aircraft was just 2 months old. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
April 13, 201313 yr That was me. Pilots were disabled and as luck would have it I was the only PMDG rated passenger on the flight sent from tapacrap ZORAN
April 13, 201313 yr there has been some confusions as the pax reported there were no signs of contact made by the landing gears and runway surface. it also reported that it ditched 50 m before runway 9.. why ditching when it was so close to the runway?
April 13, 201313 yr i think it is an undershoot. from this flightradar24 playback we can see the aircraft is approaching runway 09: http://www.flightradar24.com/2013-04-13/06:50/12x/LNI904/1227ee4 If we compare the photos from the accident and images from google maps looks like the aircraft is resting short of runway 09: Something interesting i noticed from the pictures, the horizontal is missing...
April 13, 201313 yr also avherald has corrected the information as it was talking for an overshoot earlier: http://avherald.com/h?article=460aeabb&opt=0

Does severe headwind make sense?

April 13, 201313 yr Commercial Member More like dodgy pilot with dodgy pilot license. Aircraft is 737-800. I think it's pretty clear the whole airline is kind of messed up, there's a reason why they are still on EU black list together with most other domestic Indonesian airlines... If you look at the wiki page about Lion Air you can see that between 14th of January 2002 and this day they have managed to wreck total 7 aircraft, most of those accidents being runway overruns (although only one of them was fatal). No wonder why they have to order so many planes if they have regular rate of 7 hull losses for every 10 years or so.
April 13, 201313 yr From the story, it says the plane was on a normal approach, then it fell out of the sky. Sounds like a stall too me How is that possible with a runway that long... Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
April 13, 201313 yr Commercial Member Every media report of a plane crash/incident uses the term 'Fell out of the sky' closely followed by 'Aircraft narrowly misses children's orphanage'.... I would take eye witness reports with a pinch of salt. Rob Prest
