Q400 or NGX

Featured Replies

I see lots of people who have spent just an hour or 2 in the new Q400 and claim its the new standard, bar or whatever. I think its just excitement over a new release and a blinded statement. Sure it's a very nice release but I am yet to see anything that rases it above the NGX. I see things I like better in the NGX and others I like in the Q400 I guess time will tell! Just my opinion.

Very nice airplane, but not I repeat not better than the NGX. The Q-400 is definately in its own class though, and congrats to the folks at majestic for this beauty. I have spent the last 10 hours learning this bird.

Same here. I love this bird!

This takes nothing away from the NGX, but the DH8D has simply moved the bar a little higher.

This,  The NGX Is still Fabulous and after approaching two years on the market it is still up the top. The Q400 is equal in every regard except for FDE,  Where it excels and leaves everything, Including the NGX behind.

What happens when you press WXR on the NGX?

The Dash 8 is kinda a step backward in pilot career evolution compared with the 737 me thinks ;)

What have they done that's so innovative over what the NGX did?

Why is the bar higher?

The FDE is much better as many people have mentioned. It just has that feel to it, just like the PMDG 747 did back in the day :)

Also, the FPS is spectacular.

The weather radar is something that PMDG said "couldn't be done" but MJC was innovative and raised the bar in FPS, WX, and FDE.

I do believe it's a personal preference thing.  I've been flying the NGX for a few weeks so still going through growing pains.  So far, at least, I still prefer the J41.  Maybe I'm a turboprop guy...down low I can see the things on the ground better and feel the movement.  Up high, to me, even though the aircraft is much faster, it feels slower...there's not much to see.  Also, I feel more natural taking the J41 off of autopilot and just flying it along whereas with the NGX, I know I could....but seems less authentic?  Maybe it's a mental block and I should forget about it.  Maybe once I get to the point where I'm flying the full instrument approaches by hand on the NGX I'll feel differently.
