hahaha that bsod is funny! Yes not only does the PMDG not have weather radar, but it doesn't have proper ice simulation, and the fde is limited by fsx. It's too bad PMDG didn't at least allow us to edit the ND gauge to add weather radar, I still remember the mod for their FS9 NGX that let us layer in the RXP WX500.

I really like to see developers alternating the throne of best in the complex FSX addon category! We have only to win from this, future projects from other companies will for sure be developed having this one as a new benchmark to reach, and possibly surpass. Now we need a Turbo-Fan simulation with this revolutionary FDE!

This takes nothing away from the NGX, but the DH8D has simply moved the bar a little higher.

What have they done that's so innovative over what the NGX did?

Why is the bar higher?

Icing actually affects the flight model and engines, produces visible effects on the wings and windscreen, and can lead to stalls. Additionally, the windscreen can fog up, and the average fps are significantly higher, likely because the entire flight model exists outside of the simulator.

If PMDG are close to releasing the T777 they should stop playing secret squirrels and announce a date or they will lose a big chunk to the Q4

Oh boy..... I bought the Q400 last night, but I won't have time till this evening or maybe even a few days before I've got time to check her out...... I'm going crazy with anticipation!!!

I'd love to make a comparison, but I had a catastrophic HD failure eliminating my downloaded NGX files and PMDG wants me to pay a fee to redownload. Lol

I believe the NGX and the Q400 are both amazing planes but I have to say the Q400 raises the bar. Its flies so accurately and precisely because the plane flies outside of FSX's physics. Its sorta reacting to its own more realistic and functional physics engine and basically this is depicted in FSX.

I think people are getting a little ahead of themselves. PMDG can do or has done all of these things that are in the Q400.

The FDE is much better as many people have mentioned. It just has that feel to it, just like the PMDG 747 did back in the day :)

Also, the FPS is spectacular.

The weather radar is something that PMDG said "couldn't be done" but MJC was innovative and raised the bar in FPS, WX, and FDE.

Are you a 737 pilot or a Q400 pilot?? How do you define "better"? When the NGX came out 737 pilots claimed it flew just like the real thing.

Also PMDG can do weather radar they just choose not to because of the FSX weather limitations (I however wish they put one in, just adds to the immersion even if its fake).

Didn't the J41 have visual icing simulation?? How many years ago was that?? Icing is a bigger factor for prop planes rather than jets.

One thing i will give to majestic... they have a way lower virtual memory requirement than the NGX.

All and all i will say they both seem great. I would put it a step below the NGX for now although the pro version might beat it out.

Here is where i see who has the advantage:

NGX: HUD; Service failures of parts; control of loading, doors, fuel, options from FMC; All different customer cockpit options.

Q400: Icing; Weather radar; virtual memory footprint.

When HUD and shared cockpit come in the pro version that might be enough to push it over the top.

Maybe, but so far they haven't done anything that would calculate the flight dynamics externally, exactly the thing that makes Majestic Dash 8 be better than any other airliner ever released.

Does the J41 icing simulation actually affect flight dynamics and such at all?

Majestic one just has the right feel of flying to it better than 737NGX.

I think the NGX is still at the top even the QW 146 is better just my Opinion.  The Q400 is still an excellant add on.  The one thing it realy lacks is A Decent Tutorial.  I have done the Tutorial 3 times i can set up the FMC and get flying but it all goes Pear Shaped when its time to enter the VNAV into the FMC when planning your descent. The STAR arrival used in the Tutoriol is not even in the Data base It just seems like they have missed complete sections in the tutorial and left us to work the rest out. Hope Majestic can do  a better more in depth Tutorial or someone that knows the Q400 systems can do a Youtube Video Tutorial.  Maybe if it Had the Decent tutorial i might off said its on Par with the NGX.   Just my 2 cents worth!!!!

I remember reading that they are going to release more complete tutorial soon enough.

I remember reading that they are going to release more complete tutorial soon enough.

That would be great if they do. I just think you need a good Tutorial for a Add on like this to get the Most out of it!

I'm curious, do you guys think that PMDG would go back to the drawing board for the T7's FDE now that this has been released? are they doing something similar?
