I wonder how many of us that claim to be real pilots have been airmen queried.  I sometimes get nervous thinking about how many people search. :Nail Biting:

Zach, I routinely look up all those claiming to be U.S. airmen, but rarely make mention of the results (or lack thereof) in public... ^_^

Bill, that database only contains pilots with current medical certificates, correct?

Tom, mine's in there and my last valid medical is (unfortunately) long since out of date.  It includes the date of that expired medical.

No sir... you can have an expired medical and be in the database.

No, as twice mentioned already, this db includes anyone who's ever had a valid airman or controller certificate.

I was extremely surprised and disappointed to discover that at least one very highly respected and lauded "pilot" has - in fact - never held a valid U.S. airman's certification.

   What's the point?

Seriously, are these people after a date?  I don't understand it?  What does lying about who you are get you?  Do you win a prize for being a women or something?  Early access to the PMDG 777 perhaps?

In which case i'd like to come out as a single 23 year woman from Targaryen...my friends call me Daenerys.

Bollocks! You are indeed lauded! :) The person to whom I'm referring hasn't been active here for quite a long time...

True.  But If your medical has expired and you do not intend to fly again you may have your name removed.  I did that in 1984 when I changed employers. I had not flown since 1981.  My new employer provided in their benefit  plan, company paid term life insurance equal to two times annual salary.  Only you had to disclose a number of things, including whether you flew or held a pilots license, raced motor vehicles competitively, etc.  If so you were denied that benefit coverage.  Also, I had moved from Oklahoma to southern New Jersey, smack in the middle of busy and complex airspace and high costs to fly, so I was abandoning it anyway.  Later I moved to Orange County, Calif.  Same issues.  Funny, that employer was a major motorcycle manufacturer and I was required to maintain a motorcycle endorsement on my drivers license.  No problem with the insurance coverage for motorcycling.....

My father-in-law also had his removed.  He could no longer keep his medical due to a heart condition and thus could no longer fly.  He had a guaranteed insurability life insurance option he could pick up despite having had quadruple bypass.  He dropped his license and had his name removed to lower his insurance rates.

Oh, the funny turns Avsim discussions take.

My original airman's certificate was paper, and didn't survive a trip my wallet took through the laundry a few years back.  As I haven't actively flown in some time, I never worried about it too much, but on a whim after this discussion, I went to the FAA's site, registered, filled out all my information and updated my address (the address hadn't changed, but wasn't showing up in the DB because it was apparently in a non USPS standard format, or so I was told by the computer) and then requested to have my SSN removed from my certificate.  That, apparently, gets me a new certificate mailed without charge.  "Allow two weeks for delivery.".

Why in the world did I do that?  I have no idea.  Maybe I'll go see what hoops I'd have to jump through to get my medical back and go do the world's longest BFR.  I actually had a semi-serious conversation with a local instructor about that a few months back, and his comment was "you'd be surprised how quickly we could get you back up to speed".

Who knows... :O

Looking at my date of issuance - either the SSN or the change to the current "plasticard" took place about 10 years ago... been some time for both tho.  Iirc might be closer to 20 years for the SSN.

My doctor knows about my hobby (and has not yet declared me insane) and told me that if he ever hears I as much as sit in a real cockpit he will have me confined by the Mounties for my own safety! What nonsense, just because I I have had a bad heart attack, a trip wire heart unstable angina and blackouts spells, at least

., extreme diabetes, high Blood pressure, Near blackouts and partial comas,
