I vaguely recall, around 4 years ago, someone pretending to be a pilot giving advice about an aircraft to a developer with many people believing him. I can't remember the developer or the product.....was it on Flight1 forums? He was an active participant on the forums. That person turned out to be a fraud and banned.

Well, I guess I wish there was a way to verify folks.  I just googled myself and it shows only my military control tower license from years ago.  Still, it wouldn't say what type ratings you have.  Of course, who's to say I'm not me.  Sigh...

TBH, it is all part of the reason I treat everyone as equals on this forum and say the same thing to someone who has female under their name as male.

For my, the reason is this - the AVSIM community is mainly male-dominated. Every time a woman is active here, she gets a lot of attention, which is what the troll (or more polite a wolf in a sheep's clothes) needs. I have seen this behavior in many different environments, and it works also when a 'pretend-to-be-alfa-super-male' unit enters a female dominated field. Obviously and fortunately, this is not as evident as in a 'men's world'.

 

Very good point Bart and I agree now that I think about it. Anytime one of these people show up claiming to be female they do garner a lot of attention, that's for sure. Some times the fellow here are almost tripping over themselves to help them out and make suggestions. The only time they really tend to stand out like in the case of Summer1 and Helen_P is when they come out of no where and become post-bots, wracking up a 1000 posts in two or three months time, then become argumentative. Those few traits always throw up a red flag to me since the actual female members we do have here don't behave like that.

 

BTW Bart, on a funny side note having just realized your whole name is posted in your sig, this whole time prior to noticing your actual name, I thought your user name BartEnder was a play on words meaning that you were actually a Bar Tender, lol.

Yes, You're right. It can be used as a world play. Anyway, that's my actual name, and since the 'Bartłomiej' is extremely difficult to say in some countries, I often use a shortcut 'Bart'
