I didn't want to mention his name because of events around here in the past, but I followed his guide last night after creating a fresh .cfg and I was blown away...

 

I used Word Not Allowed's tweaks in the days of FS9, but I lost touch with the community and took a 5-6 year hiatus, recently returned. I had forgotten about about Word Not Allowed and his guide until I stumbled upon it last night. I knew I would know "that guide" when I found it, and last night, I found it.

 

I had followed the guide available here, but I just ended up with better results using Word Not Allowed's stuff. I don't what's different, but I definitely have better performance to the point that my jaw dropped and I sat there stunned after I loaded my first test flight. Using the Carenado PA46, REX, and Ultimate Terrain, I was locked at 30 with "building storms" selected as weather, at SEA departing for 4S2. The frames never dropped below 29 and not a single stutter was noticed.

 

That was by far the smoothest, best looking, 100% stutter free experience that I have ever had.

@@Trans_27 Pilot Chase , i don't think there is a problem to mention Word Not Allowed's guide here on AVSIM. Word Not Allowed was quoted recently in some threads by avsim staff members.

And this seems to be normal for me - that conflicts are not my business, but his guide are the best fsx guide so far

Nice to know. I wish he was still around here, he was very helpful every time I was having issues.

 

But none-the-less, his guide is a 5 out of 5 stars for me.

 

Naturally, the PMDG still takes it's toll, but for me to fly the PA46, in weather, with HD clouds, with not as much as a single sneeze or cough from my computer? That was impressive. I've NEVER had a sim that is as smooth as mine now is.

Agreed, Kostas guide is fantastic. I never recall him taking credit for it as was stated in some comments (only credit he took AFAIK was for the hours of work he did tweaking/testing different things and what his personal findings were).

 

I'm not one for conflict either but I did want to add that.

In the end i have gone with Kostas guide and stayed with DX9 for now, Getting super smooth performance locked at 30fps too

Srdan Kostic also named  'Word Not Allowed'  is without any doubt the man that made me stop tuning my FSX, since following his advice to the letter made my FSX the best possible

I've tried ALL the others, experimented with ALL other advices and always found out Word Not Allowed's method was the very best.

So for the last 2 years i am FLYING FSX instead of TUNING it !!

 

I am very gratefull to Word Not Allowed for all his great and hard work for the simflying community !

The key is that one approach doesn't work for everyone.

 

Applying Word Not Allowed's appraoch to my system led to stutters and a drop in FPS.   I put that down to the fact all of Word Not Allowed's recommendations make reference to (and apply to) Nvidia video cards.    He gives detailed setting for the Nvidia control panel settings, and how to influence them, and their 'quirks'....   But I am an ATI user, and none of those recommendations apply to ATI settings.    Thus the result was not beneficial.

 

Bojote's tweak tool remains the best approach for my system.  I typically see 25-30% improvement in FPS and reduced stutters.  

 

So...... make copies of your FSX.CFG, and try all of the approaches available;   one will be right for you.
