May 26, 201313 yr What PMDG airplane doesn't include 2d panels?? Try the pmdg js4100 is totally vc I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
May 26, 201313 yr Author This is about 2D cockpits, not 2D popup panels, but since you mention it... the 737 is missing the single most important 'popup', the throttle quad. Not only did they not include it, they have the most ridiculus excuse I have ever seen, "it's too complicated"..... I guess they forgot about their MD11 throttle quad. Jay
May 26, 201313 yr 2d gauges are clearer and larger. 2d performance is better. It takes fewer clicks and pans to get to 2d switches. The 2d view does not have the gradual viewpoint shift bug that exists in the vc. Vcs look cool, and are fun. But I really can't use them for what interests me, which is systems, navigation, and flight management. I always end up back in the 2d after playing with the vc for a bit. Bryn. May 26, 201313 yr Years ago, I'd sit in my real plane, and figure it would take six 2D monitors to create the view. I even went to the trouble making a so so attempt for VC's in FS98. 2D's really do take away much of the outside view, in addition to loosing some vision ques that add to a sense of feel.
May 26, 201313 yr What Airbus 380 is that in FIVE-BY- FIVE posts? It's for X-Plane, and it's called the Peter Hagar A380. Pop it in Google, and you'll find his site. As I said, X-Plane though. Regarding the other 3 pages on this thread, you could reply to each and every argument (almost), with "Mmm, yes, in your opinion, but others would disgree". There is no science, and no-one is right and no-one is wrong. Some of the people in the debate hold very fixed views on things, and struggle to understand that others see things differently, but neverthless, it's all subjective. 2D panels are not better than VCs are not better than 2D panels.
May 26, 201313 yr Moderator I see, a payware program instead of adding a 2D panel for free. Jim, 2D panels aren't "free" by any means. Since these days it creates up to 2x the effort since two separate guage systems have to be developed, it simply increases the final sales price a bit... Fr. May 26, 201313 yr Bill, I think Jim was referring to "free" as in from the user perspective of adding a 2D panel, to an aircraft they otherwise like but that doesn't come with a 2D panel. I don't think he meant "free" to a developer that creates one for a product.
May 26, 201313 yr 3D +10 2D - really? Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
May 26, 201313 yr Eaglesoft will always include 2D Panels... LOL  do you guys still produce planes at all? Hey Jay, why bother mentioning this?
May 26, 201313 yr I see, a payware program instead of adding a 2D panel for free. Except the time involved to develop 2D panels isn't free. But you're a smart guy, you knew that already. AJ Pongress
May 26, 201313 yr For all of those guys who mock the 2D panels.......just remember that there was a time when you all thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. Of course, that was also a time when Flight Unlimited 2 and 3 gave us the option of "VFR" (better view) and "IFR" (more visible instruments) panels whilst Microsoft gave us a single view that covered 80 per cent of the screen..... Having said that, I don't use 2D panels anymore. Virtual cockpits are fantastically detailed these days, and I don't need TrackIR to use them. May 26, 201313 yr I'm nit sure why you think you can't see outside in 2D, works fine here. Tiny amount of gauges? Mine show a full panel. Change seat height? Never had to in 2D, only in VC. That's what I mean. You shouldn't see the entire panel if the perspective is correct. That's why in the VC one has to pan (or look around with that evil device you don't like), because it's more realistic. How do you see "over" the glareshield in 2D? 2D is too restraining... ugh. I always feel like I'm stuck staring at a tiny part of the plane when there's so much more out there. I feel the same way.
