July 9, 201312 yr Someone sent me a PM wanting to know what Ryan Maziarz changed in my settings that made FSX run so good. He said that his setup was similar to mine, and he was having the same trouble. Although many computers are different, so settings would also be different, I thought I would post the changes that I can remember. Maybe Ryan can jump in at some point when he has time, and add more information. He truly has the magic touch for FSX, but I know that it is not possible for him to tweak everyone's FSX headaches (maybe we can clone Ryan about a thousand times), so maybe posting these changes that he made to my computer would help a few. I know FSX is running amazing for me now. I spend more time now, playing around pushing its envelope, loading different heavy sceneries and aircraft, and flying around while monitoring my "Process Explorer", than anything else. Below is the PM that I wrote back: I am running an i7 3.20Ghz (Sandy Bridge) processor, Nividia GTX670 GPU, 64GB RAM memory. (I have to update that in my profile). Ryan, from PMDG got into my computer with a little software tool, and he was able to change or work my computer like if he was sitting in front of it. One of the things that made a big difference is that he turned off photoscenery that I was not using for a flight. I have almost all of MegaSceneryEarth v.2 releases, and I had them all activated in the library within FSX. He says the FSX will process photoscenery, even if you are not in that area so it constantly runs down FSX resources while you are flying. If I loaded the NGX on a gate at most any airport, I would have an OOM before I pushed back and had used up all of my VAS (Virtual Address Space) for FSX. Shutting off MegaSceneryEarth, that I wasn't using gave me 1 full Gig of VAS, right out of the shoot. Another thing that was a big factor, is that I had my texture max load set to 4026 or something like that. Set it to TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048, and use an outside program like Texture Max Load or FSDT's Addon Manager to keep it there. Ryan says that if you set this high, the load on your VAS will increase exponentially, so it would be a huge load. It has made very little difference in the visual quality, yet a big difference in how FSX runs. Last night I loaded the new version of Miami Intl airport that was released by Latin VFR. I also installed "Miami City 2012" by Drzewiesky Design, MegaSceneryEarth v.2 - Florida and 100% AI by MyTraffic. I looked at my "Process Explorer" and was only using slightly over 3Gigs while flying the Carenado CT206H. (Flying the NGX might have been too much). Make sure that you get "Process Explorer" and "Scenery Config Editor v.1.1.1" (Google it for the downloads). Ryan also went into my Nvidia settings through "Nvidia Inspector", and changed some of those settings. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- July 9, 201312 yr Thanks for sharing this, Robert. Yes, there is something different on your system and that is the huge amount of photo scenery activated which accounted for about 1 GB of VAS unavailable for your flight simming experience. I was surprised at the cause of your OOMs; I learned a lot from that topic, be assured. Just to second you, the TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD gets changed easily by different tools, but can be checked even from inside the game for example, as stated, if a FSDT (demo) airport or GSX is installed. Again, thanks for letting us know and you truly deserve an enjoyable FSX experience after all your former frustration. What happened to AVSIM
July 9, 201312 yr 64GB RAM memory. (I have to update that in my profile). Thanks a bundle for the rundown of config changes; it'll make for a nice reference in case anyone else comes knocking with similar issues. But if you can spare a moment, please riddle me this: why on Earth do you have that much RAM installed? For the life of me I can't fathom why anyone would ever need 64 GB of RAM in his rig. You're aware that FSX will never use more than 4-ish of that, right? Curious and nonplussed minds would like to know.
